Finished 2-1 to Brummies. Very disappointing second half.
Kakuta was poor which is I guess understandable, given how long he was out. Matic bossed the midfield in the first 45 but faded after the break. Borini was relentless throughout and impressed me once again but he couldn't do everything on his own.

Very poor second half. Chelsea are a young side and seemed to lack stamina and concentration the longer the game went on, while bottom team Birmingham had a few experienced players in their side. The commentator was getting desperate, trying to blame the pitch for the performance, but that was just bollocks. Next week we're away to double-champions Aston Villa, who are unbeaten this season and have already stuffed us 4-0 at home - should be painful watching!

We played far too deep in the 2nd half and allowed them to play out of their half far too easily. Yes the pitch was bad but they had to play on it too and did so far better than us mainly because they played much higher up the pitch and put pressure on us. Hopefully this will be a good learning curve for our boys and I'd like to see Matic get more time with the first team. He's even more ready than Kakuta is.

The progress that Matic is making is very encouraging. I hope he gets a start against Blackburn in League Cup.

Kakuta was quite awful tonight. Very disappointed in him and I can't understand why he wasn't substituted.
Matic was excellent in the first half and was okay in the 2nd.
And is it just me or does Matic look a bit like a younger Tony Curtis?

That was extremely disappointing after a promising start. Thought Borini looked lively and could have scored more than just the one. For Kakuta, it was very much a hangover performance. He was dreadful and had one of those nights where just about everything went wrong.
The lad who has impressed me of late is Josh McEachran. Early days and I think he's still only 16, but he has a great touch and shows composure on the ball that belies his young age. Definitely one to watch.

I agree. Him and Matic created alot together. I hope he (McEachran) continues to evolve.

i don't think we should go too much by reserve games. ok kakuta was aweful last night but he's in the squad for the porto game so i reckon the only reason he even played last night was to get a bit of match fitness

If we opt for a 4-3-2-1, the equation might change a little.
