Please do not get decided by penalties!

I think England will have to play even better when they face Germany. It's going to be a really interesting game

We are clear underdogs in this one and I am hoping that that fact is what spurs us on to come out the other side victorious. The midfield battle is key as Germany are not particularly talented up front and nor are we. I have total confidence in Ashley Cole and JT to rise to the occasion however I have concerns about whoever partners JT in the centre and Johnson who is, game after game, proving to be a loose cannon at the back.
Frank was a lot better against Slovenia than he has been in our first two games and he probably needs to improve the same amount again to make a real impact on Sunday. I also feel Capello has to pull Gerrard into the centre for this game however I suspect he will start on the left again.

England are apparently somehow the bookies' favourites for this. A fiver on Germany to get through might have to happen...

Loz, can't agree with you on some of this. England are not the underdogs in this match no matter how they played the first two games. At worse, I think it's even but with the youth of the German side I believe they are the underdogs in this match.
Up front, both teams are talented. Say what you want about Klose when it comes to club football, but for Germany he takes it to a whole new level. With Podolski and Müller on the wings in the midfield that tend to slide up to attacking positions and Klose's knack for being able to score goals, it's a pretty nasty trio. England in my opinion has better strikers, especially if Rooney gets hot. He hasn't had a great match yet. He's due. Neither team may be an Argentina or Spain, but both have very good talent.
I really think the difference between the teams is the defense. I think England has a better defensive back four than Germany. The German back line has been exposed and I could see Rooney being able to slide through. I think the midfields will be evenly matched with whoever can keep their defense disciplined winning this match.
It's a shame to see these two paired so early in the knockout round.

Perhaps but at least this WC will feature what is (and always will be) a blockbuster & as Liam quite rightly pointed out this fixture is what us neutrals have wanted all along: after watching both England & Germany games last night I can't help but feel that Germany may have peaked too soon and that you lot may have started to gel at the right time.

England improved against Slovenia but im not convinced they are good enough to beat Germany , hope im wrong but i thought England were nervous for 20 mins and didnt really lookd uncomfortable at times. But saying that , todays win could have a huge effect on confidence and ive no doubt the attitude will be completely different considering its the Germans. England solid at the back and if Rooney turns up then its possible it will go Englands way .

I've seen nothing from England yet to make me believe they will beat Germany. Sorry folks, but I think your run ends here

Very very interesting match indeed!!
After England's display yesterday, which was MUCH more courageous and confident, this is a very difficult game to call. England dont want a draw and penalties, that's for sure!!
England should have spanked Slovenia by a few more goals - do they still lack a killer finishing instinct?
One goal against the Germans may not be enough!
As a Northern Irish man, I am obviously 100% loyal to Northern Ireland's international team and I do a bit of winding up against England when I get the chance.
However, yesterday I was delighted, not only for Terry and the performances that our Chelsea boys put in, but it's also for the good of the cup. Sure the media really grind my gears, but I am sure they do the same to you guys too.
For the team (mostly) I would like England to win the cup. For the media torturing I do not.
Sunday will be a great day. Lets hope the Germans are sent home!

A very interesting match. If we play a flat midfield four I think we will have a problem with possession in the midfield. Ozil in front of our back four worries me too. On the other hand, the German defence doesn't look too solid so there will be chances.
I'd say the match was pretty even. We tend to play better against teams that play against us so I think we will be less nervous now that we are in to the knockout stages.
My biggest complaint about the formation we used yesterday is that our two best midfield players, and potential sources of goals, were being asked to play in roles which restricted their natural games. Lampard was sitting with Barry and didn't get much opportunity to get forward. Gerrard was much more disciplined on the left but as a result was less involved.

That's true if you don't include the matches against West Germany, but that would mean England has never beaten Germany either. I don't think England has played Germany in the World Cup if you don't include the matches against West Germany. I think West Germany beat England twice and England beat them just once, but that was the big one.

In view of:
1. England's proud tradition of folding against Germany (preferably after penalties)
2. how England qualified by the skin of their teeth
3. England's goal scoring problems
4. Germany's habit to improve during a tournament
I'd say Germany are favourites to win.
