And the best part about it is that I didn't make that up to give you a chuckle!

Its funny to see how circumstances are shifting.....b4 few days it was like every one is quitting Anfield and now suddenly all inwards flow of players in news....Hodgson's influence and some good work at Fulham paying off??

Jawan you have missed the point.
It is Luke Young!!!
Will Young would be a better signing.

I don't think he would be a bad signing for them if he can remain fit (whats happening with Johnson then, Right Midfield perhaps). looks like Hodgson is buying British....

Well if it is Hodgsons idea to play him as a starter it definitly is a bad signing. I would assume that he is just a back-up for RB and LB.

Isn't Degen, their current back-up right back on the way out? Bit of an improvement over Degen in my eyes.

Shows how far their squad has fallen when a journeyman like that is a signing. Liverpool fans will no doubt hail him as a genius though, one of the best full backs in the prem if he signs. The same way Roy Hodgson is suddenly a top manager (I vet they didnt think that before the star of last season and would have been up in arms had he been made manager then), Joe cole is suddenly massively consistent and hardly ever injured since signing for them and Mascherano has always been rubbish.

I actually think Roy Hodgson is a quality manager. I was quite happy when he was appointed as the Finnish manager, even if his teams tend to play quite defensive football. Not sure if that has been due to lack of attacking talent in the teams he has managed in the previous years or the fact that he's been managing teams that are underdogs in most of their matches, so it has made sense to use defensive tactics. Not sure if he has it in him and/or whether he has the resources available to him to turn Liverpool into a winning team.

Luke Young is probably the missing piece of the puzzle (in a looooooooong line of missing pieces)

Earlier they were signing/linked to Chelsea rejects. Now Aston Villa rejects too? That is some low.

I'd imagine he'll be cover for Glen Johnson, and Hodgson might use him on the left (despite the fact that he hates playing on the left). Not a particularly significant signing, but a reasonably decent backup.

This is a big drop in quality, no doubt. But Hodgson is clearly building slow with the expectation that they may not get back into the top 4 this year. If Woy's plan is to rebuild that squad slowly and patiently get them back into contention in a few seasons, then Young's experience will probably be a good thing to have around.
Still, for the moment
This is hardly going to be very convincing for the likes of Torres and Aquilani. But Roy can always replace them with Danny Murphy and Heskey if need be.
Ahh Philippe Degen. Another one of Rafas gems. How much did this "free" cost them in wages and signing on fees? I dont think I have ever seen him play once in 2 years.
Still, for the moment

I seem to recall watching Degen play in a game for Liverpool...and he got sent off...I think two Pool players did...it might have been against Fulham? Whoever it was won the game.

I can see the Liverpool boardroom now...
Hodgson: Awesome....the bid is in, lets hope we get the lad!
Gerrard: To riiiight boss, the la' is quality.
Hodgson: They've accepted. And who said you can't get potential Egnland stars for under 5 million!
Gerrard: Ermm....gaffa, you've ticked the wrong box on the squad list you sent....this kids name starts with 'L'...not 'A'
*Queue 3 men in Adidas tracksuits, doing a dancing routing, talking about how bad they have it*

Apparently Luke young might turn them down because of wages, that will show just how far they have fallen when such average players like that turn them down. They are also after Petrov from Villa, such an average bunch of players.

Hes turned them down, the dippers cant even sign an average full back like Luke Young without having to pay massive wages. So much for players going there because of their history or them being such a big name etc....
