Numbers were short for the reserves, due to the large squad taken to Portsmouth, so Sam Hutchinson, as a member of the Academy staff, stepped in to fill a gap and played in central defence.

I can imagine Hutch taking on a Ledley King-esque role (although perhaps not as much of a big-game player) where he plays the odd specific game where his talents might come in handy. Delighted to hear that he completed 90 minutes, and I really hope we see him appear in the first team again.
