Sad news indeed. I, like others had not appreciated the nature and seriousness of his injury. I look forward to watching his progress as a coach. Glad to see the club standing behind one of there own, been here since he was 9.

This is a shame. At least he'll be alright though just not a professional footballers. The headline for the article on facebook made it sound far more ominous.
At least he'll always have that brilliant cross to Lampard against Stoke.

Disappointing for Chelsea and disappointing for the kid because it's just such a random thing. I don't believe in destiny but it's clear that it wasn't in the cards for him to be a professional footballer. What a shame.

Very sad news, had a very bright future ahead of him. Must be devastating. Been at the club since he was 9 years old so he is chelsea through and through. Wish him the best of luck in whatever lies ahead for him in the future.

Bad news for the club, who have lost a very talented Chelsea junior, who by all signs, looked to have an immense future...but even sadder for the lad to have his career cut so short.
Best of luck to Sam for the future.

Really sad to hear this, and to such a promising individual. I have to say kuddos to Chelsea for helping him out with the future.

Must be heartbreaking for the boy. Very sad to hear.
I'm glad the club is still taking care of him. Hope all the best for him in the future!

Horrible thing to happen to a kid like that, poor bar steward. Good to see the club are helping him and not just tossed him aside, hopefully he can stay at the club and become a valued member of the coaching staff. Good luck Hutch.

Absolutely gutted for the lad, he had so much potential and seemingly the apptitued and attitude to go with it. Hopefully they are the same things that will see him do well in his studies and still go on to carve a good career for himself in the game. Glad Cheslea seem to be doing right by him as well.

Poor bloke, wish him all the best for the future. I thought he always looked confident and comfortable playing for us on the few occasions I saw him. Its a loss to the club and a loss to football.

Must be the worst news you could get at that age.
A lot of potential, hope the club can support him whilst he finds his calling in another part of the game, whether its sport science, coaching etc.
The lad will be ok hopefully.

I can't add anything more than say I'm absolutely gutted for him, honestly, there are no words to discribe it.
I wish him all the best in whatever he decides to go onto do!

shame
he look a half decent prospect when he played them odd few times in the premier league
least Chelsea are backing him to make a career out of football on the coaching side

I have today written a personal message to Sam. I'm fortunate to have quite a few friends within the club, due to media contacts that go with the job, as they say. I've had the pleasure of meeting the lad at Chelsea Player of the Year Awards, he is humble as they come with great belief and passion, although this does not come as a surprsise to those close to him, this is a real footballing tragedy that thankfully has not been overlooked.
Sam, make no mistake, from Jason and Eddie's / Jose's early days, WAS the new JT in waiting. Much is said in football about the new Pele, new Maradona etc etc, but Sam had JT's stamp all over him. Injury free of the past 5 years, he would have been in our line up this weekend alongside our skipper without any shadow of a doubt.
As someone said, the Hutchinson name must be cursed at Chelsea, but the common denominator here is really that both had the passion and desire to wear the blue shirt until their last bone depended on it..
It's a fantastic gesture to keep him on by the club, he can only be good for the kids at Chelsea, for someone to go through this as a youngster and get his dreams crushed, leaves a mark for kids with even the slightest of a bad attitude with undoubted ability to buckle down and eventually wear our blue shirt with pride.
Sam's legacy should be inspiration not desperation, I wish him all the luck in the world with his future life and career.

What everyone else has said, probably more eloquently than I could manage. Gutted for the boy, glad he got on against Stoke and glad I was there to see it. And good on the club, too
