devastated for the lad, to have your dreams shattered at such an early age must be terrible

Sad at any time, but devastating for a 21-year-old who had effectively served his dues and deserved to be where he was - on the point of benefiting from his hard work and loyalty. Credit to the club for continuing to support him over what will obviously be much more than an hour of need, especially when watching his young colleagues progress. The only consolation I can offer may sound trite, but, as one door closes another opens and from what we have learned about this lad over the last few years he has the character to progress within the game, albeit in a different direction to the one he had always dreamed of.

I was saddened to hear this, at least he will be working in the academy. Ill never forget that cross he put into Lamps last year. Pure class.

Gutted by this news. Had high hopes for him, and even after that incredible performance against QPR, I thought Hutch was destined for greatness, the second coming of John Terry in becoming Chelsea captain and, all in all, Mr. Chelsea. Absolutely gutted for him, he was so composed on the ball whenever he played, and that assist against Stoke was just pure genius.

Will miss this kid, thought this was his year to make his mark as a fully fledged youth first teamer.

All the best, Sammy Hutch. ::ChELSeAFaN::

If it's any consolation Sam, there are not many players who can say they played in a title winning side that scored 7 goals at home in 1 game (Stoke)

I feel terrible for him. I really had high hopes for the lad. I heard Chelsea is going to continue to support him and he might become a coach as well.

Yes they are letting him work in the academy while he studies sports medicine at school. I guess that's the next best thing after playing.

Gutted for him, knew his injuries were very bad but had no idea he was anywhere near coming to this conclusion.

I was absolutely gutted to hear about this. He was a top young player and it's very sad for both the club and for him that he will never get to realise his great potential.

Hopefully this extra time to study his craft will make him that much better a manager when he gets a job.

I'll always remember that cross for Lampard last season.

Sad news. I feel for the lad.

Liked what i saw when he came on against Stoke last season.

I wish him better luck in whatever he chooses to do next.

sad news.

But hopefully he has a blast at University, and Chelsea have stood him so he'll have a good crack at forging a new career as a physio at the club, or whatever he wants to do with his Sports Science degree.

Really terrible news. I don't think it really matters whether or not he looked like he was going to make it at the highest level - what matters is that he has been robbed of his preferred livelihood through terrible fortune.

Delighted the club are going to look after him (as they should) and fingers crosses he makes a career out of the game in some way or form.

If I was at Uni with him, I would be trying as hard as possible to get him into my 5-a-side team.
