i almost forgot about this one (it's been one of those days - don't ask!) but managed to catch the second half.
from what i saw Chelsea started the half brightly with plenty of excellent possession/passing play. when we went 2-1 up i fully expected us to add to the score. Newcastly were being out-passed, out-run, and out-thought and out-classed. by comparison Newcastle looked like a bunch of donkeys. until they equalised following a bit of a defensive disaster, and from that point on it was a very different game. Newcastle had renewed faith and were pushing for the winner, restricting Chelsea, who looked increasingly frail at the back, to the occasional counter attack.
and then right at the last, when it seemed as if both sides had settled for a draw, the Newcastle keeper brought down Adam Phillip to give away a penalty which was confidently put away for the winner, by Adam Phlip, who had come on as a sub. good result, mixed performance but against a far more experienced Newcastle side, that included a certain Sol Cambell.
and here's the report on the official site:

I watched the game from the start but had to leave after about 25 minutes when we were still 1-0 down as I was playing five-a-side myself.
We started really poorly. Kept giving the ball away and Newcastle scored a cracker after 2 minutes and were all over us. Glad we managed to turn it round as I fully expected to come in last night and see we were on the end of a bit of a hammering.
Of course the trouble the reserves have is that the best players are joining the first team squad, so the likes of Kakuta, McEachran & Van Aanholt weren't available and I guess Bruma is still injured so we did look lacking in quality a bit.
Tore seems to have lost his way a little. Watching him for the youth team last season he looked exceptional at times but in the first half last night, he was giving away possession time and again. But I now he's still very young and will hopefully learn from his mistakes.

I managed to watch pretty much the whole game, and it was nearly a carbon copy of the first teams game on wednesday. Started poorly, then took complete control against a much older and more experienced side, scoring 2 excellent goals and creating loads more chances. Then had a much poorer 2nd half, though we were still controlling most of it. Tore stood out, as did young Chabalah (still only 15 and playing that well? jesus)and Lalkovic had a good game up frnt scoring the 2 goals. Pick of the bunch though was Deen-Conteh at left back, some of his runs were incredible, and he was still making 80/90 metre bursts in the 90th minute. We seem to be bringing superb left backs through by the dozen at the moment.

He clearly improved after the first 25 minutes then!! (Benefit of watching the whole of the game).
I like Lalkovic. He looks fairly quick and tricky and also seems pretty versatile.

From what I've seen of Lalkovic (as an American, my viewing for most youth is limited to youtube) I've been really excited to one day see him in action. I know he's pretty far away from even seeing time in a Carling Cup match, but still hoping he turns out to be one for the future.
