I reckon that this really started up in the 8182 season.

I once was fortunate to share a beer with Mickey Thomas, he said he wanted to play for Chelsea all his life, even at Man Utd he said he
was fascinated by Chelsea, their fans were something that he needed to experience, their cult like following and the way they related
to players that gave everything and one's with a aura of a lovable rogue.
He told me, that when he scored his first goal on his debut against Sheffield Wednesday he ran like mad to Gate 13 because in his words
'The lunatics were there!'
Mickey does a lot of media work at Man Utd to this day, to many he is remerbered for his time there. Talking to the geezer I can tell
you, at Chelsea he enjoyed his football the most, at Chelsea the fans were the best in the world.
It's hard for younger and 97 onward Chelsea fans to relate to things of the past, for us oldies - the passion of those days come
out in our posts, Gate 13, the North Stand boys, us Shedites remember the bad days on the pitch, but off it the Chelsea fans
were the best in the game.
How we need a Mickey Thomas in our ranks these days and Joey Jones type to rally the troops in JT's absence.
Plus a fan base at Stamford Bridge with the passion of years gone by.

Aaah, Gate 13, lasting memories...especially of the 5-0 Leeds match in '84, Everton firing a flare at us, West Ham paying a visit...

West Ham were everywhere that day, North Stand, West Stand, Gate 13, Shed...they certainly moved around a bit
That's the only game I can remember seeing fighting going on in three sides of the ground simultaneously. They were pretty impressive that day, probably the ICF in their prime but we did OK.

i think some people people are confusing the games against the ammers, the 1980 game they tried to take the shed and got hammered but they regrouped in the benches around the time that graham wilkins scored an own goal, then went towards the shed but obvously could not get through because of the fences, the 1984 game they were in 3 sides if the ground but NOTthe shed

My memories of a game which musdt have been 84 (I think we won 3-1) were they appeared in the middle of the Shed before kick off, massive fight and then they disappeared, then they appeared in Gate 13 again before kick off and had a huge mob in the West Stand. That mob left before the end and came up the stairs to the white wall side of the Shed and Bovril at the same time. There was a big brawl in both places but they never got onto the terraces. I didn't go to the Easter 4-0 home defeat so can't be getting confused with that one.

i remember loads were waiting in the shed in 84, but west ham knew where the main firms were and that was not the shed! The lot in gate 13 got done and the firm in the west stand, once Chelsea got together even got the better of them .the 4-0 game there were loads of west ham in the west stand but no stand offs but they were not in the shed as that time taking ends was finished

Not sure what year it was, but all I remember is we won the game 3-0, it was when they emptied 5 mins from the end, we all thought they were off to Fulham Broadway.
Can tell you for certain they came right up the middle of the Shed, up the steps, it was chaos.
Early to mid 80's for sure, the week before I went up to Villa Park, they beat us 4 something, at a guess it might have been the year Dixon scored at Highbury our first year back in the
first division?

tu manges tard moi, comme les espagnols. Et je pense que j'habite pas loin de chez toi ! The 4-0 was in 85 86 and the 1-0 was in 80 81, and the 3-0 in 8384 i remember that colin lee scored a rebound from his own penalty. Speaking of him, i think that he was underrated, versitila and reliable.

Apart from the occasions already mentioned, I'm sure I remember West Ham being in the Shed for a testimonial. I can't remember who's testimonial it was, let alone the year (my memory isn't exactly the best) but it was a large crowd for a testimonial,. and the Shed was packed. West Ham were just there, mobbed up around the Tea Bar/White wall area with a large police presence keeping them well away from the middle of the Shed, which is where I was, unusually for those days. I don't remember there being a lot of trouble. This one just stands out because of the surprise factor.

I remember the 2-4 Boxing Day defeat at home, 73/74 season, non-stop rucking at that match.
I don't remember the testimonial (though I could easily have been there, my memory is sh*te), but just looked it up - it was towards the end of the 75/76 season, March 1976. The testimonial was for Harry Medhurst, ended 1-0 to Chelsea (Garner), and the 'official' gate was 4,868.
Having said that, the official attendance for the Bradford City Appeal match against Rangers was 7,239, but I'm sure there were more than 25,000 there.
