Thanks for the info. Harry Medhurst would definitely make sense for a Chelsea v West Ham testimonial.
Strange how memory plays tricks. Maybe it was just the Shed that was full(ish)! It's no massive surprise that I don't remember a thing about the game... truth be told I probably spent more time looking towards the West Ham than I did watching the match.

I think a lot of us did that when we played West Ham in those days

I was at that one too, stood in the North Stand down the front. If I remember rightly were were 2-0 up and then Clyde best scored a couple for them.
Yeah, we were 2-0 up at half-time (Britton, Hudson), then they scored four in the 2nd half (Lampard(!), Gould, Best 2). I think it was this game, and the following one against Liverpool three days later, that made Sexton determined to sell Alan Hudson - allegedly Huddy turned up for both with beer on his breath.
Bloody hell, if our Sunday League manager had the same attitude he'd have ended up with no players at all!

you were nice and safe in the north stand ! We were 2-0 up. there was a 1-1 draw around this time and they were in the 3 main parts of the shed all through the game, the only mob to do this i am sure, the only opposition was a small firm wher the tea bar was

I also remember wondering why there was a big D shaped mob with police all around them stuck in the middle of the Shed. I was a bit naive in those days!

the funniest one was against palace when they tried to take the shed AFTER the game, there was about 50 of 'em', Chelsea heard them as they were leaving went back in and bashed them.

There were plenty of West Ham in there as well, behind me. I used to go with my Dad in those days and he always stood on the high bit of the North Stand while I stood down the front where he could see me and I could see the match. He wouldn't let me go in the Shed until we played Birmingham the week after we'd lost to them in the FA Cup. My excuse was that after he'd told me about so much aggro in the cup I'd be safer in the Shed for the league game.

It was, we'd beaten Sheffield Wednesday the previous round. That was mad too, they were behind me in the North Stand and kept getting attacked.

i remember it well, the north stand were gathered at the top ( as usual) and ran down and scattered them everywhere. 2-0 down, Hollins hits his penalty over the bar but we come back to win 3-2, i know mickey droy scored at least one." North stand, north stand do your job" !

Shef wed that is one of the few games I remember clearlyish. Not sure why but it sticks in my head, probably because I still believed we could win and thought Droy was great.
West Ham either that season or a few before... had read the book "skinhead" and about 25 suddenly appeared in the middle of the Shed. silly sods... life is not a book.

I remember that quite well, it was payback time for a few of us after taking a kicking at their place in 72/73 - revenge was prolonged and sweet!
Couldn't believe my luck when we were drawn at home to Brum in the next round, exactly the same circumstances - on the receiving end at St.Andrews in 72/73, then sweet revenge. Shame we lost the game 1-0 though.

Aaah, Gate 13, lasting memories...especially of the 5-0 Leeds match in '84, Everton firing a flare at us, West Ham paying a visit...
I used to love it in gate 13. The atmosphere and singing (especially in the bar pre-match)was brilliant.
I wasn't there for the Leeds game as I was in the benches, but was there for that Everton game. As I recall it wasn't a flare but a f**king big rocket that flew just over our heads. Mad scouse twats!. I remember the West Ham invasion, then soon after Millwall left their mark too.

i remember that a couple of millwall at the back of gate 13 had bycical chains, a game against luton in 1980 springs to mind, colin lee scored in the last minute for a 1-1 draw, the atmosphere in gate 13 was briiliant and loads run on when we scored

Not sure what year it was, but all I remember is we won the game 3-0, it was when they emptied 5 mins from the end, we all thought they were off to Fulham Broadway.
Can tell you for certain they came right up the middle of the Shed, up the steps, it was chaos.
Early to mid 80's for sure, the week before I went up to Villa Park, they beat us 4 something, at a guess it might have been the year Dixon scored at Highbury our first year back in the
first division?

Hi Star
West Ham home was 84,we won 3-0 & i'm sure Colin Lee had to re-take a pen...we lost 4-2 at Villa,0-0 at Luton was around the same time.
Cheers Jim
