You could try to be sensible and trace it back to the '60s and say because of the way they nicked Jimmy Greaves, or the '67 Cup Final, but it goes deeper and is a lot bitterer than that, often stemming from personal experience.
It's because N17 is a sh*thole and their supporters are the scum of the earth. Well known for attacking people who don't want to know, scarfers, women and kids and the like, and even then only when they've got numbers on their side. With all their scumminess they also have a quite nauseating sense of superiority, a self-delusional arrogance on a par with Liverpool fans. The difference being that Tottenham don't even have Liverpool's 'istory.

rumour has it that a few spurs players were gesturing to Chelsea fans after the final whistle at the 67 cup final and it is because of that

I've never heard that before, but interestingly the next time we played them was at WHL in November '67, and there was a massive ruck in the Park Lane causing the game to be stopped for a while - almost unheard of at the time. I think that was the game where the Chelsea lads all had their blue & white walking sticks with them, amongst other things
Unfortunately this was about five years before I indulged in fisticuffs at games, sounds like I missed out big time

There was a centre-page spread in the programme following the WHL game, complete with pictures and a list of weapons 'confiscated'. If I remember rightly, someone even went to the game with a mallet, and rumours went around afterwards that one enterprising chap got in the ground with a sledgehammer!

I must admit the Spurs people I know are a pretty decent lot. I don't have an axe to grind with them.
The team I dislike is Arsenal, especially Wenger. He really annoys me.

funnily enough i used to know a lot of top boys at spurs in the 80s and 90s, and you can believe it or not, but anyway i could go to any spurs v chelsea game and after go in one of a few of their main boozers and get no greif, in short they were as good as gold

You're obviously not a scarfer or a bird! One of their apparent top boys in the 90's went after my old man and a pregnant women. Complete bunch of cnts.
