i have just had the pleasure of seeing Makelele in a french league cup semi-final in Montpellier which PSG lost 1-0, my son is not too happy, but how we could do with someone of his calibre right now, the man is class even now

Very clever player, thought we'd bought him too old but thankfully proven wrong. Real Madrid's record in the Champions' League post-Makelele says a lot about what a key player he was.

you have just summed it up, apparently he was the guvnor at real and many of their players admitted it, as with last night nothing spectacular but always present and hardly a pass goes astray

Makelele was a class act.  A Chelsea legend.

Pity he wasn't offered the job on Carlo's coaching staff to train Mikel for his role!

Maka's a Chelsea legend. Not many players have a position named after them. Says it all really.

Brilliant player.  Always remember him in the second half of that Champions League game at Highbury.  Got the team pressing up the fielld with his positioning as we chased the equaliser.  And it was his fierce shot that led to Lampards goal. I'm hoping Ramires can eventually fill the role or us.

Magnificent footballer, and massively under rated when it came to skill, passing etc. He was almost impossible to knock off the ball at times and was very good with the ball at his feet. Madrid made such a stupid mistake the day they let him go, bloody great for us though.

Living in France I see  him regularly on french tv equivalent of MoD and some cup games. Although not quite so sprightly now he remains a class above the majority of players in league 1. Still a pleasure to watch and he has lost none of his skills of fooling the majority of referees even though they are accustomed to his particular talent in that direction.
For those of Chopper Harris supporting vintage, Makalele was and is the "master or the professional foul" , a height reached by Chopper and only attempted by the likes of Norman Hunter, Billy Bremner, Paddy Crerand, and many others.

One can only assume that you didn't understand the previous post because it far exceeds your attention span.

You have Canal Plus AND Foot Plus? Wow! is your Dad bigger than his, too?

I am not quite sure what there is to have a laugh about regarding Barat's post.  Maka was, in addition to being one of the finest players ever to grace football let alone Chelsea, the one of the finest ever exponents of the 'professional foul' - not so much the professional foul as per the modern  definition (i.e. clear chance on goal) but more the concept of realising very early on that the team could be in trouble and committing a foul whilst play was still a long way from his goal.  Meant he was less likely to get a yellow and there was less chance of a direct shot on goal.

I am not your mate. I have absolutely no idea what you mean by "leave the get 27 alone", so could not comply with your instruction even if I wanted to.

You start a thread. You never write more than one line, or sometimes one word. An articulate poster posts an interesting and informative contribution to your thread, and you reply by mocking him because you have better telly access than him.  No-one cares what channels you have on your television.

Ha, this is nothing like the old days!

Bitch got uppity then, you just give her a slap, put her in her place.  Nowadays, all you get to do is sneer at her not knowing what you mean when you type a number.

Same as when some smartarse posts a reasoned comment about the subject of the thread.  In the old days, you and a few mates could have waited down some dark alley till he was on his own and given him a right seeing to.

Nowadays, all you get to do is sneer at his level of television!  jeez!

There's a common theme here.  Old days - good old fashioned violence - never hurt no-one.  These days - sneering - that can be so hurtful though!

I am not SO annoyed, as you put it. I am however irritated by your gratuitous rudeness to a poster who only ever posts reasoned and interesting contributions to a thread. I am not obliged to reply, but if those of us with standards of decent behaviour don't make a stand when people like you hi-jack the site in order to make insulting and totally uncalled-for remarks, the Shed End will degenerate into a comic strip for yobs.

The site is open to everyone provided they adhere to acceptable standards of behaviour.

The price of your channels is irrelevant, as was your boast that you had them. You started this thread, but appear not to welcome an intelligent contribution to it.  One has to doubt your motives for joining us and swamping us with a plethora of threads to which you contribute very little in the way of intelligent comment.
