Reading the News of the World today they think its possible Arshavin is on his way out and Chelsea are interested to get him.

This article says Arsenal will want about £10m for him. I think they only paid £14m for him when we were after him a couple of years ago. So if we want him, we gotta be paying less. £6m?

Cant see it happening seeing as we are trying to recruit youngsters for the longterm, though Roman might want him to join the ranks?

Andrey Arshavin is set to leave Arsenal in the summer, with Chelsea lining up an offer for the midfielder as they look to reunite Russia's successful 2018 World Cup bid duo of Arshavin and Roman Abramovich – according to a report in The News of the World.

The Russian playmaker has recently been linked with a move away from the Emirates, as he is reportedly unhappy at the club.

Despite contributing seven goals in all competitions this term and leading the way with assists, Arshavin has been going through an indifferent spell of form, and has been dropped to the bench in recent weeks.

His situation is said to be pushing the winger to contemplate a move to Arsenal's rivals Chelsea, particularly as Blues owner Abramovich has formed a solid relationship with Arshavin after the pair worked together successfully on Russia’s 2018 World Cup bid.

However, Chelsea will have to compete for his signature. Arshavin’s former club Zenit St Petersburg claimed last week that the door will always be open for his return to the club whom he helped guide to domestic and Uefa Cup glory.

With less than 18 months left on his current contract and his 30th birthday approaching, it is speculated that it would cost around £10 million to acquire the Russian’s services.

Some Arsenal fans may have become disillusioned with Arshavin lately, but the statistics back his value to the team, revealing that he has contributed more per game than the highly rated, in-form Samir Nasri.

In the Premier League, Arshavin has scored four goals and provided nine assists so far this season, while Nasri - Arsenal's leading goalscorer with nine in the League - has provided only one assist.

Arshavin is currently placed 20th in the Castrol Rankings, up from 31st the previous month, while Nasri is ranked 42nd, up from 70th a month ago.

Manager Arsene Wenger remains convinced of Arshavin's worth, recently commenting: "He is going through a period that is a bit difficult at the moment, but he works very hard in training."

The Arsenal boss has been negotiating a new contract with the Russian since July last year, but has failed to reach an agreement with the midfielder because of his policy of offering only one-year deals for players over 30.

Wenger is hoping not to lose any players during the January transfer window, as his side remain in contention for honours on four fronts.

German club Wolfsburg, managed by former England boss Steve McClaren, are said to be looking to invest some of the £27m they received from Manchester City for striker Edin Dzeko in Nicklas Bendtner, who is struggling to claim a regular starting berth at the Emirates.

Bendtner has fallen down the pecking order following the summer arrival of Marouane Chamakh, and has publicly stated his willingness to leave the club if he is not picked to play more often.

Niet. Niet. Niet.

Arshavin had a couple of good games in the World Cup before last and that was it. Then he was fairly hot property. Now he's an over-rated, over the hil, inconsistent, diving cheating, Arsenal near-reject.

But guess what, he's Russian. And so is Roman. Which is more than enough for your average UK media hack to concoct a story.

Yes, that was a good one. Almost as good as the episode that revealed that Bono is the world's biggest sh*t. "Never call me number 2!". Classic. :laugh2:

I have always liked Arshavin as a player but he is more like an Arsenal player. He fits in the Wenger-mould. He was a beast in the Euro's few years back.

There have been rumours around for some time that he'll be signing for us in the summer. However, it's vaguely possible that he'll be joining is during this transfer window if the Suarez to Liverpool deal collapses. Apparently Ajax are a little strapped for cash and would be forced to sell van der Wiel if they couldn't find a buyer for Suarez. According to the following article, van der Wiel would set us back £8.8 million:

Luis Suarez’s January transfer negotiations have created a storm at Ajax with a back-up plan now being considered in which team-mate Gregory van der Wiel would be offloaded to either Manchester United or Chelsea if Suarez’s Liverpool deal falls through.

The Amsterdam giants are understood to be having minor financial difficulties and need to sell at least one player during the current transfer window.

Van der Wiel has been tracked by a number of clubs including Spanish giants Barcelona, but a preferred move to the Premier League continues to grow in popularity.

The 22-year-old Dutch international’s agent Hakin Slimani has said that all offers and options were being considered, but that everything hinged on the Suarez deal.

‘Anything can happen at the moment.’ Slimani said.

‘I think if one of the clubs want him, he would have to think about it. The main thing is that Ajax will have to make a decision about that.

‘But at the moment nothing is concrete, there is no offer on the table. He still has a contract for five years, so it all depends on Ajax and whether they are willing to let him go, and whether Luis Suarez joins Liverpool.’

The Reds have been given until Saturday to decide whether they wish to buy Suarez for Ajax’s asking price of £21million after initially offering £12.8million for the Uruguayan striker.

Any possible move for Van der Wiel by either United or Chelsea would cost the clubs around £8.8million and Blues manager Carlo Ancelotti could use the Dutchman as an option if the David Luiz deal from Benfica falls through.

Maybe we could swing some sort of deal with Ajax. After we sign Luiz, we buy Van Der Wiel and send Bruma there on loan. He gets to develop in his country, Ajax gets some financial relief and we get a player we have pegged as a top target while one of our promising players gets 1st team experience.

Bit old but yeah...

Jay Bothroyd 'set for £2m Chelsea transfer'

According to the Mail on Sunday, Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has identified Bothroyd as a bargain transfer target.

The Premier League champions have struggled to find the target in recent weeks and Ancelotti is keen to bring in another striker this month. However, he has a limited transfer budget - a situation that makes spending just £2 million on a goalscorer like Bothroyd an attractive option.

Chelsea are also keen on Benfica's Brazilian centre-back David Luiz, but the Portuguese club's £40 million asking price means a deal is unlikely.

At first I thought it said "Dominik Hasek", so I wondered why on earth we would sign a former NHL keeper who is over 40 years old.

Can't say I've heard of this Masek lad, but hopefully our scouts have done a good job.

Seems we are out to get loads of youngsters at the moment. What worries me is that we hardly seem to sign any english ones. Are we aiming to make our youth team look like Arsenal?

From what I have seen the kid is a beast. That said I have not seen much. He was part of a profile of the Czech Republic youth system and it's upcoming stars on television about 3 months ago. Apparently (according to the program on TV) his best attribute is his shot.

http://www.footballtransfertavern.com/2011/03/premiership/blues-sing-household-name-of-the-future-say-italian-press?

Bit of a short and sharp one this afternoon for a player that potentially could be a household name in a couple of years, but at this point doesn’t even have a wikipedia page…talk about an unearthed gem.

Luka Krajnc is clearly well known to scouts of Europe as the 16 year old defender is at the heart of a heated bidding war involving numerous different clubs. It is now reported that Chelsea have leaped ahead of the competition for the players signature and that they will compete a deal for the young superstar this Summer.

Krajnc is currently playing for Slovenian side NK Maribor and at the age of only 16 he has already represented his country at junior levels. The left footed defender is primarily a central defender but can also play at left full back when it is required, he is praised for his pace, strength and passing ability. At 6’1 he is also strong in the air and uses that to great effect, and coupled with his strength it makes him a dominant defender.

It was reported last year that Blackburn Rovers were leading the race to sign the youngster amongst competition from AC Milan and Inter Milan because of his stated desire to play in the Premier League. It is now reported in Italian newspaper La Republicca, that Juventus, Liverpool and Chelsea have all joined the scrap to sign the player.

It is believed that shortly before Christmas Chelsea signed an agreement with the players club that essentially gave them first refusal on the player. Due to the defenders young age the fee involved would be pretty small, but there could be future incentives, the quoted sum is a mere £130,000 which for a player who has been dubbed as the next Alessandro Nesta doesn’t seem much.

At 16 clearly the player still has a lot to learn and it is totally unknown whether he will fulfill the expectations that have been placed around him, with the right tutelage and instruction there is no reason that he couldn’t go on to become a top player. Considering however that the player hasn’t played any games at the top level it is evident that this would demonstrate a signing for the future and not an instant starter, but that is still an exciting prospect for fans of any club.

There might be more twists and turns in this story but if the rumours of the agreement between clubs is true it would seem likely that the most probably destination would be Stamford Bridge come next season.
