remember this was first time seen cfc at wembley had seen england play romania there year before so not first time at the twin towers but was 7 at time, remember there being a huge crush to get in and someone scored before we got in think city went 1 up as my old man said f**king chelsea. we were in the white and city had that red and black ac milan kit. speedie got a hattrick dixon did not play as he was not fit, wasd that the year he got badly injuired in the fa cup v liverpool????
it took ob 15 minutes to figure out what pen to put us in and they eventually put me and my dad in with the city fans right up near the top, but they were sound as.
typical chelsea 5-1 and cruising then had to make a game of it concededing 3 late goals...............what are your reminiscenes of this game?

Main memories of the game are seeing Chelsea play at Wembley for the first time in my life (and the only time standing on terracing - never to be repeated I guess).
Kerry Dixon missing the game through injury but Speedo and Colin Lee sharing our goals (which one scoredthe hat-trick?).
Big Doug nearly f**king things up again and a very nervy last few minutes.
And of course, wee Pat Nevin's dazzling wing play.
Chelsea winning at Wembley. Back then, things couldn't get any better than that!!!
And I loved the white kit we wore that day too- one of my favourite ever away kits.

Those Le Coq Sportif shirts we had in the mid 80s were f**king blinding!
And then Bates bought out that Chelsea colection kit the year after horrible!

Great day out! That was the first time I'd seen us play at Wembley since the '72 League Cup Final.

The only time I ever saw Chelsea at Wembley. My dad got seats down the side. Great day.
Re the kit. I have a replica of the white shirt which I still wear to the pub. Kinda confuses the American Chelsea fans. Full Members Cup?
My son laughs at the short shorts, the same way we used to laugh at the Stanley Matthews long shorts!
Great memories. Thanks for the clip.

I still ponder with my City supporting cousin to this day, who got the matchball. In the match programme there was a competition where the prize was the matchball. However, with Speedie's hatrick I would expect that he very likely got and kept that.
I also recall that there was a bit of bother. I know another City fan who said that his coached was bricked on the way out and that it was a windy journey home.

Yes there was, CFC in MCFC end, kicked off then escorted back to CFC end to watch the rest of the game (amazing that was allowed really). Plenty of fans came out out of the woodwork for this one, hence the huge crushes to get in. Wouldn't want to estimate the attendance but must have been capacity which was great for what was , essentially, a mickey mouse cup... :-) Nobody could live with Chelsea in those days.

How about this. Both clubs had to play league games the day before. I think I recall Chelsea were away to Southampton. But me and some mates instead went up to Glasgow to see the old firm game at Ibrox. We'd been up there some weeks earlier for the return Bradford Fire fundraiser game and got invited back. Rangers v Celtic was incrredible on and off the pitch and in the pishing rain it finished 4-4. Staggered from the pub later to get the nightrider train back to London and another amazing match. 17 goals in two days. Phew.

Pretty certain that Man City played Man UTD, not that I was around back then (was only 2), but I'm certain
I've read it somewhere.

Tis true. I went to it with a City mate. City equalised in the last minute to make it 2-2. Might have been an Arthur Albiston OG.
I travelled down from Manchester to Wembley with him and his Dad the next day. The City fans we drove past were bemused by my hand signals out the window.
Outside Wembley, we walk straight into SH who has brought his chaps round to say 'hello' to the Guvnors, it inevitably goes off. My mate then decides to take a photo of SH, who glares at him before recognising me and letting it go. Get in the ground (City End) and there are a few chaps I vaguely recognise just after I get through the turnstiles. Sure enough they're Chelsea and it kicks off again in their end soon after the game starts (from memory).
By the time City score their 3 goals at the end of the game many of the Mancs have left for home.
Cracking day/weekend.

There were loads of Chelsea in the City end, it kicked off mental at half time in the concourse their end.
Virtually every Chelsea fan I knew as a kid was at the game, some hadn't even been since Ken Bates took over the
club. I've lost contact with virtually everyone from my Chelsea youth, but I can honestly say we were
the best fans in the country 'before, during and after!'
I also must say as a youngster going away from home, either by hitching, car, train/special I always felt safe 'cos
I was Chelsea ... we were feared and respected by other fans and hated by the press.
