I'm with you ace. That was a great game.
I was trying to talk to a mate of mine to explain how he missed just an awesome game of football. He didn't want to hear about it because it was women playing. He just doesn't think they have any quality.
Watching that game, and others, has proven that the women's game has all kinds of quality these days.

I just realized that Brazil women have the stars above their crest like the men's team does, even though they have never won a WWC. Do other nation's do that as well? Maybe the US Men's team should start wearing a star for the women's win in 1999.

The German women have two stars for their 2003 and 2007 championships.
Brasil just don't have any for the women's side, so they borrow from the men's. I guess it's something.

France looked really good today, dominated possession, but thankfully the US defenders and Solo were solid at the back.
On to the finals!

Japan is going to be tough. They were clinical against Sweden.
If the US can win the midfield and steal some chances against that Japanese possession, they'll have a good chance.
The French were the better team until Rapinoe came on. IMHO, she was the difference maker. After her sub, the US kicked it into a whole different gear.

The US women's team wears two stars.
They might be changing that though come Sunday evening.

f**k me! That reminded me of Chelsea's last season, with US giving up two leads near the end of the game. Disappointing loss for the US, but credit for Japan for hanging tough.
Seeing Tobin Heath slowly walking up with her head down to take that penalty for the US reminded so much of Anelka's miss in the CL final, it was like deja vu all over again.

USA dominated the match, but we saw a very dramatic extra time and it's nice to see a new champion. Japan needed something to cheer them up after what they've been through lately.

Japan deserved the victory after working hard for 120 minutes and converting the penalties. They got unlucky with the offsides call in the 63rd minute.
The US also would have deserved the victory if they had won it. It was a back and forth final with the US dominating most of the match. They just couldn't finish, and that's what needed to happen. I was sad to see the US lose, but I'm happy to see Japan win it after everything they've gone through.
Sawa was my player of the tournament. She scored the second equaliser and this is her fifth WWC. Japan is the vehicle, she is the engine.

Sawa is definitely the player of the tournament. In the commentary of the match that I got in the U.S., they did not mention much about Sawa's goal to level the score at 2-2. It was a very extreme angle off the corner, and it seemed to me that it got deflected on its way into the goal, and that Sawa did not head it but rather got her foot up a bit and kind of steered it into the goal. Did anyone else see it that way?
The commentary in the U.S. was abysmal, and if I hear Julie Foudy again, with her not being able to figure out how many minutes are left in the game or in a first or second overtime, I will go ballistic!

Women's WC is far more interesting than Copa America... What a shame
