a few average performances against mediocre opposition in euro 2012 qualifiers is apparently more than enough to make up for the dismal last 16 exit at the last world cup just one year ago...apparently we're better than brazil, argentina and italy...mmm...if only that were true

Its about time FIFA got something right........
4th is an utter joke. How the hell do they even work this sh*t out? Werent Mexico 2nd or 3rd for ages purely because they played about 20 friendlies a season?

What an absolute disgrace.
England 4th. Where the hell did that come from? They couldn't even beat Switzerland at home
Italy move up to 6th. Disgraceful, I watched them get destroyed by an Ireland B team last month.
Mexico up 19 places to 9th. Why? For beating one average side at that useless Gold Cup?
Uruguay drop 11 places to 18. Why they haven't lost at all in the last few months?
None of it makes any sense. It's absolute rubbish

Brazil’s overall record vs. England
P22 W10 D9 L3.
World Cups
Brazil 5 - 1 England
European/South American Championships
Brazil 8 - 0 England
I'm not pissed about Brazil's ranking. 5th sounds about right for us right now. After we win the Copa America we should be back in 2nd. No arguments that Spain are top.
But England shouldn't be so high. They have done nothing to earn it, They had a draw at home to Ghana and then another draw at home to Switzerland. Mexico shouldn't be so high. neither should Italy or Croatia. Argentina should be higher, So should Uruguay and Ireland. The Copa America should bring the CONMEBOL teams back up to where they belong. Chile should be higher and Colombia.

Very little of this has anything to do with the current rankings - even the fact that you knocked us out of the 2002 World Cup on your way to winning it is irrelevant in 2011, and most of the World Cups & Brazil-England matches happened before then.
Which is not to say England are the fourth-best team on the planet. Our record in qualifying matches has been pretty good for the last few years, but it's hard to argue we should be ahead of major teams who actually showed up to the last World Cup. The alternate ELO ratings have us sixth, behind you & Argentina and basically level with Mexico & Chile; I'd take those rankings over the official FIFA ones, at least at the moment.

Well if that's what the rankings say then so be it.
The rankings are obviously more important than the amount of world cups a nation has won. If we can atleast draw our next two games we could find ourselves in the top 2 surely

I think this maybe is all about styles of football. Brazil play terrible, boringly slow football, no style or substance. Whilst England are well known for their stunningly beautiful passing game, a game admired the world over.
