While posting on the old songs thread I started thinking about the pubs around the Bridge and how many of them could be considered Chelsea pubs 7 days a week and not just on matchday. The Riley Arms on Kings Road is one and I know the Maltsters used to be, what about the rest?

One of the few pubs that I've not drunk in regularly down the years, went in there for a while when it was the One Bar a few years back, never that impressed with it though, the Wheatsheaf opposite was a good pub

What happened to the Maltsters? I used to drink in there before games - a few years ago.

Also used to go in the Black Rose and sometimes the Mitre on the Dawes Road after games.

I still like the Maltsters but I'm a bit prejudiced towards it, my uncle was landlord there from about 77-82 and I used to drink free for collecting glasses on Saturdays, I was also in there the day we won the league at Bolton, and that was a memorable one.

The Wheatsheaf was the place to go in the early '70s. By the end of the decade and into the early '80s I was a matchday regular at the Malsters, but often used to go to the Weavers further down Farm Lane.

whenever i was on a jaunt to SB allways head for the adelaide pub.
very very very small place and once you had 40+ bods in it was rammed.

chap called wayne used to run it,but now its a antique shop.

saw my first ever larger top in that gaff.

what have you londoners done to larger,it took monks years and years to
get the taste of larger correct for you lot to stick lemonade in it.

shocking.

The Prince of Wales in West Brompton I would consider a proper Chelsea pub. The landlady and half the bar staff join the customers to head to SB for every home match. Great night celebrating the title in there after the Wigan game last year.

Wonder what the bar staff will think when 200 Chelsea turn up on their doorstep.

Used to enjoy an under age light or Brown ale from the shed tea bar.

Dont remember any catering facilities what so ever on the North stand terrace not even a peanut seller, may have been something in the old north stand itself?

I'd go along with the 'Prince of Wales' and close to the ground just off the Fulham Road the 'Fox and Pheasant'

what about The Swan across the road from the old Fulham Broadway tube station,i know it wasnt the most posh type of pub,but i enjoyed seeing mates in there,and there were some good bands play in there

Yeah the Fox is deffo a proper Chels pub. The landlord Ben goes to most games and is always up for chatting a bit about the Chelsea when I pop in there.

Most of the pubs we use to drink in have changed name and appearance and are no longer proper boozers. In the early 70's we use to use the Rising Sun and the Britannia on the Fulham Road and also the Wheatsheaf on the Kings Road. Mid 70's it was usually the Black Bull and then the Lord Palmerston on the Kings Road. We usually drink in some of the pubs in the North End Road now but to be honest most of the lads who we went with back then no longer go. Some do the occasional match and we always use to have a few get togethers but those seem to be fewer now.

We used to drink our light and bitter in the Adelaide also. As you say very small but a great atmosphere in there on match days. Been years since I have been back to London so not even sure what happened to all those bozers around the Bridge now.
