A question for the old timers,........where did you use to stand at the bridge?.

I use to stand just to the right,(as you view the pitch),by that raised old bill platform,(what was that about?).

Mostly because it was a good view & under cover, but odd as it sounds now,I use to think it brought a bit of good luck to the team!,(cobblers,I know).I used to feel miffed if someone beat me to it,but hey,I was younger then.

I know Mr plod had a serious humor loss if anyone dared to stand on that poxy platform,(excuse me officer!).

If money allowed, sometimes I would pay the little bit extra to sit on those damp wooden benches in front of the West stand, but without fail it seams,it always used to rain when I did so!.

Only on one occasion, with the help of a birthday, did I have the cash for a luxury seat in the East stand upper, & I nearly bricked it when I saw how high/steep it was....oh happy days.

First few games I went to, I was in the benches with my uncle, but as soon as I started going on or with my mates, it was in the middle of the Shed. Pretty soon I graduated to the North Stand, either going back in the benches or the Shed (left or middle) when the old bill wouldn't let me in. Like yourself, I only sat in the East Stand a few times, way up high and didn't fancy it at all.

After the North Stand era, when I was a little older, it was back to the Shed, around the White Wall/Tea Bar area.

When I first went as a kid with my uncle I used to sit in the East Upper because he had a season ticket up their. By the time I was 15 I headed for the Shed, I didn't really have a specific place to stand, but prefered to be in the middle. I would occasionally pay the extra quid to transfer to the benches. A couple of seasons later the redevelopment started and the Shed in all its glory was no more. I'm just glad I actually got to experience the 'real' Shed. It gave me many great memories that I will never forget.

Yep. The Shed for me. Down the front as a kid in 1971 but moving further back into The Middle as I got older. Went a few times in the North Stand in the early '80's but by 1984 me and my mates had season tickets in The Benches. When the Taylor Report meant the impending closure of terraces I went back to The Shed for its last couple of seasons, usually by the tea bar. Would really love if the recent 'safe standing' initiative suceeds. 17 years and still can't get used to sitting down watching football.

West side of the shed,(deffo the loudest when we got it together too) near the middle when i first started going, but i was clever and always used to stand on the raised step where the gangway was in front of the crush barrier. Great view! Left the shed for the benches @ 82/3 then 83/84 into the west stand (z block). Nowadays when i go it could be anywhere, but probably prefer east middle if i had the cash.

I was always a bit of a nomad at the old ground, started off at the age of 11 until I was about 16 in the White wall sitting on the wooden barrier at the back by the corner of the aisle between whitewall and Shed middle section. After that I entered what I'll diplomatically call my Bluebeard period and started going in the North Stand for a season or two, in fact the first time I ever went in the North Stand, apart from my first ever solo game when I didn't know which end was the Shed and stood among the away fans, was when I tagged along with Bluebeard and his crew who were 2 or 3 years older than me, Bluebeard doesn't remember this but I was 12 or 13 at the time and seriously impressed with myself for being among such esteemed, well by Carshalton, Morden and Mitcham standards, company. Later on I stood regularly by the tea bar and on the other side of the Shed terrace by the floodlight pylon over at the blue car side, added to this various stints in the West Stand, gate 13 and even the East upper for one season. More recently I've got a preference for the MHU, I like the atmosphere of the lower tier but can't stand being too low down when watching a game, went in the new West upper once and realised what the old Highbury must have been like for the home fans, but since I started going in 1970 the only two parts of the ground, old and new, that I've not been in are the old North Stand and the new West stand middle tier.

For me, starting off going to games in the early/mid 70's saw me being taken by a couple of older lads (at least Ten yrs older!) into the middle of the Shed.
I have to be honest and say for the first few games (until i got used to the goal crush) that i nearly shat meself when we scored as all i could think of was being trodden into river of p*ss by all the 'big boys' (i was 12 yrs old)
As the late 70's arrived i tagged around the ground following a guy from our neck of the woods who was fearless.. oh and big, and hard as feck !!!
culminating occasionaly in the North stand behind/amongst the away support.
(am i having a senior moment or did i/we used to just pay 20p to move from section to section?)
I have to be honest again and say that although i look back at those moments of idiocy with a tinge of pride, at the time it was VERY nery.
Now i have to sit up in the gods where bods look at me in disgust when i join in with those below left with the songs when i come over for a game (From France), and, the day and a half costs me more than a season ticket would !

Once I was allowed to attend games on my own I started off on the left side of the Shed. Moved to the old west stand as a season ticket holder. then into the beast that was the east stand the first season it opened. House moves, poor finances then marriage meant I had to cut back on the season tickets and attendances in general especially as I'd now moved to Northamptonshire with two kids in tow. Gradually eased back in once finances allowed me to, got a season ticket in the east stand again for the 1999/2000 season and then moved to the MHL from 2004/05 (great season to move!) and have been there ever since.

As a kid i was always taken in the west stand & down the front of the shed, when i started going with mates in my teens in the mid 80s it was the shed mainly the middle for the atmosphere ect,
anyone remember the girl Sharon that always stood in the middle about from about 88/89, sure there was quite a few young teens who enjoyed the surging while stood behind her lol !then i floated between the benches & shed, went back up to the west for a while especially the bigger games in doors X,Y,Z, few seasons later when the building works started it was the shed temporary seats, east upper, west, then a st in the mhl for a couple of seasons, now wherever i can get a ticket for in the cheap cup/cl group games :-(

The first time i sat an away game was at Fulham in 79/80 we won 2.1 the next time wasnt until y*ds away in 87 when we lost 1.0, i bought a seat ticket off a tout for £10 in the away seats above the terrace, turned out glad i did as 100's were getting crushed on the terraces below.

Started in the Shed middle, over the years migrated to the T bar side of shed and North stand anywhere that suited.

Used to love the standing, the characters, the knees up, the crowd moving and the chants and songs etc.

Going to the Bridge was a great experience even when we were in the doldrums.

Not only standing, a friend of mine fell asleep on the terrace directly outside the t bar at a pre season anglo scottish cup game, the crowd was so poor everyone could have laid down on the terraces and fallen asleep.

The Shed. Left/right. Once stood in the West Stand and old East stand. Nowadays SU when I go. Won free tickets for WU. Me and mate doing the usual (cheering and singing our team on) we were definitely out of place.

Used to stand in the Shed as close to the middle as dad would let me get when I started going, then moved more towards the White Wall side. Also used to sit on the Benches a fair bit, just loved the fact that you could just rock up on the day and decide where you wanted to be.
I remember more about the other fans in the Shed than I do the games from the early days, must be totally different for kids that start going now.

Can't remember much but standing on a box toward the corner of the bottom of
the old East Stand adjacent to the Shed. Season ticket holder with my dad early
to mid seventies in old West Stand, briefly the benches ( concrete one's ) but the Shed
eventually all the time 1980 onward.

Whitewall in the main, Tea Bar sometimes.

Hope to be a season ticket holder in 2012, looks like we will be living in Hammersmith
this time next year.

Well as the moniker says always on the Tea Bar up the steps on the left hand 5 rows down . Used to sit on the crush barrier as a kid late 70's early 80's then stood behind it as I got older . Went in the middle for a while in my teens and then used to sit in the East Stand Gate 13 which was fun !!

After that had a season in the old West Stand seats (which I still think was much better for views , atmosphere and banter rather than the poxy lego set they have now ) then moved to the North Stand Upper when they pulled the West Stand down where I still have my season today . Glad I didn't move back to the West Stand now and very happy where I am .

Same here, prior to that (when I was too young) I use to be in the East Middle or Upper with Dad.

When I use to go in the Shed, I did use to stand behind one of bars further down, but one day on a surge, I found out it was best to move right up along the back bar, and stayed there all the time after. It was right next to one of the old bill platforms, but it made no difference to me.

Good memories and was really sad to see the old shed go. I was young at the time but glad I got some experience of it.

Usually, as far away from the Hounslow mob as possible! They would love to chase the Whitton mob (mob! all 4 of us) all over The Shed!
