To be honest that Bojan deal is a ridiculous one {effectively a loan deal}& just a crafty way of giving there players who would not get 1st team football valuable game time. Makes you wonder why we have not engineered this clause for any of our youngsters but sell them for peanuts.

Now this deal might impress the football manager types, young Barca midfielder, but I'd have preferred Parker. 19 year old Spaniards are just the type to go missing on a cold December night at Bolton.
But building for the future and whatnot says this isn't too bad a buy.

If Romeu decides to stay with us after two years, perhaps he can buy himself out of the Barca contract, using pocket money from Roman. I can't see why they would insist on an unhappy player returning.

What do people think his squad status will be? First team, reserve or youth? Or a bit of it all like Josh?

I've got no idea. I'd never heard of Romeu before, but apparently AVB was already tracking him while he was manager of Porto, so obviously knows a lot about the player.

VILLAS-BOAS: WHY I WANT ORIOL
Andre Villas, speaking in Bangkok, has announced that Chelsea has agreed terms with Barcelona for the transfer of Oriol Romeu, a 19-year-old defensive midfielder.
The player has yet to agree personal terms or pass a medical and is currently away with the Spain Under 20 squad which is soon to compete in the World Cup for that age level in Columbia.
'I don't want to speak too much about him because he is not our player,' Villas-Boas added.
'It is a part of the squad in which we are struggling with numbers because of Michael Essien's injury and Oriol is a player with a bright future. He still has to evolve as a player.
'The Barcelona B team had a magnificent year in the Spanish second division, they finished third. Oriol had an injury during the season but he came back late on and was in time to play for the first team. So he is one of the most promising young players in that position and hopefully we can agree personal terms and hopefully he will pass a medical.'
Oriol began with Barcelona's smaller neighbours Espanyol before joining the famous Camp Nou academy in 2004, progressing through the ranks until a reserve team regular playing in Spain's second tier under Luis Enrique.
He made his La Liga debut for the senior Barça side at the end of last season, coming on as a late substitute in a 0-0 draw against Deportivo La Coruna, having also appeared at the beginning of the campaign in a Spanish Supercup loss away at Sevilla.
The 6ft Catalan can also play in central defence and is renowned for his strength and his expansive passing ability.
Villas-Boas also had news on Thibaut Courtois, the 19-year-old goalkeeper who is on the verge of finalising a move from Belgium and is subject to news reports that he is to be loaned out to Atletico Madrid.
'It is also a question of time and of deciding where we think it is better for him to evolve as a player, in Spain or in another country,' the manager reported.
'The Spanish League is an extremely competitive league and Atletico is a great club to be at but it is not decided yet on his future.
'It is still a couple of days until we can confirm agreement between all three parties.'

He sounds promising, will be a bit like Josh no doubt that he will need lots of time to get settled in, hopefully he settles quick and can provide something a bit different

I'm hoping this would mean Josh would be used more as the creative midfielder then the holding mid they have been putting him in.

I have no doubts of the boys talent.. It's the 'deal' i don't get..
Scenario 1... He turns out to be out of this world, wins some trophies here, then goes back to Barca for feck all, and we lose a key member of the team.
Scenario 2... He turns out to be a dissapointment, Barca don't take the 'buy back' clause.
Isn't it a win/win situation for Barca here ? (excluding the 'he falls in love with Chelsea and wants to spend his best year here even though Barca want him back' option mmmm)
Alan
PS Not trying to be negative here at all, it just all seems one way, but, i suppose the club knows best.

This buy back business; where did that part of the story come from? Is it only speculated? The club haven't said anything about this have they?
I ask all these questions because it sounds so ridiculous for a club of our stature to enter into such a one sided agreement. Basically we blood the lad (if our policy to giving good game time to such young players now changes under AVB) and then they say thank you very much and take him back just as he reaches his potential. So on this basis I can't believe that Chelsea would enter into a deal like this. I could imagine Fulham doing this but never us.
I must say that I do approve of this kind of under the radar type of signing. Let City et al fight it out for Aguero and Pastore and let us pick up those players cheap 2 years before City become interested!
