Will be going out on loan soon apparently. So perhaps AVB fancies Bertrand as backup more?

I think it's the best way forward for now. Bertrand is better defensively which is what we need in a back up as much as anything. Someone who can come in and be solid. PvA probably has more potential to improve, but a year on loan with plenty of game time to tighten up the defensive side of his game would do wonders.

No surprised, nor am i pleased. I think its pretty clear Ashely has been declining over the last year or so, maybe as a result of the ankle. We really need to start giving his replacement game time at chelsea. Sadly i don't see Bertrand or PVA being given much of a chance here. Seems we like to loan players out until they are sick of it and want to leave permanently

If it's difficult to find playing time for either Bertrand or PVA, then it's just about impossible to find playing time for both of them.
The reality, I think, is that Ashley Cole is still on another level to either of those two. Of the two I think I'd currently prefer Bertrand, who may yet get opportunities this season. In the longer term, who knows? They could well both be fighting for a first team place for years to come. Maybe only one of them will make the grade here, maybe neither will.

Cue 'Buns' jokes.
I'd like to see PVA get a few minutes here and there, as a sub at the end of games, maybe starting in some of the games of lesser importance, and the same goes for Bertrand. From what I've seen I'd have to agree with Eggy McMuffin in that PVA has more potential to improve than Bertrand.
Maybe it is time for one or the other of them to be pushed on now, or maybe let them go.

loan deal ok............but must be PL team, not many of our players who dome back from the Championship improve enuf to get first team squad, so who needs a new left back - magpies do?, or maybe QPR or swansea
avb is very good going forward and likes to shoot whereas RB is more defensive and (sorry ryan) limited - he is neat and tidy but not progressive
oh, and kalou time - completely wrong about ashley, if anything last 2 years have been his best at cfc

On loan? That could turn out to be a great move.

Not going to get a minute at left back there though.

If you mean Leighton Baines, maybe they've had the proverbial offer they can't refuse.

Anyone get to see him play today?

I only saw bits of the match...one of the moments saw him getting forward from left back cutting inside, and firing a neat right footed shot. Went just over the bar...but it was exciting nonetheless

I saw the second half. PVA looked good going forward, getting into dangerous positions (if not either hitting the target or picking out a final pass). Generally solid at the back, and Wigan was mostly well organized - it certainly wasn't inevitable that Everton would score and the last goal came as Wigan piled forward.

Is he injured? why is he not playing for Wigan, surely better than what they have.

According to InjuryRoom he isn't injured, but Wigan do have an established left-back in Figueroa, so PVA isn't going to play every game as much as it would benefit us.
