I think it is safe to say that these 3 amazingly talented young men are the finest attacking midfielders of the new generation, They also happen to be from arguably the top 3 International teams. Germany, Brazil and Spain. Certainly the 3 nations who seem to be producing new generation teams that will be ready for the next World Cup.

So my question is. These are the 3 best young attacking midfielders in the world. But Who is the best?

Mario Gotze Age 19 Germany

Lucas Moura Age 18 Brazil

Thiago Alcantara Age 20 Spain

If i had to pick one I would take Lucas. He is much faster than both and is a much better scorer. He does have good vision but he isnt the creator that gotze or tiago is. Overall I think he is a more of a complete player.

Excuse the quality of the Lucas Moura video. He is not as well known as the other two but he is just as good as them, If not better. My personal vote is for Thiago right now but there is very little in it difference. Lucas is the youngest but I believe he will be better than Thiago in the future. Gotze is amazing too. A contrast in style from the other two, but just as good in different ways. I really can't decide.

Yes you are right Lucas is the quickest of the 3. He is also a powerful runner. He may look light because he is so skillful and quick but he is surprisingly strong and difficult to knock off the ball. He also has a high work rate which is rare in Brazilian players. He will chase down opposition players and hassle to win back the ball. So you are right about him being the most complete player.

Myself I think Gotze is proven at a higher level than the other pair. Thiago's opportunities have been limited and Lucas is yet to play in the real top flight.

Lucas or Gotze would be excellent pickups for us over the summer. Both are young, right footed and creative. A bookend for Mata if you will.

It would more than a little ironic if Lucas proved to be the hidden gem of Brazilian football considering the massive hype surrounding Neymar in particular but also Ganso.

There is massive hype for Neymar and Ganso, but the hype is rapidly catching with Lucas. His play has been much better for the national team then Ganso's. Depending on where Neymar ends up, I think Lucas will be the best of the three.

Ganso and Lucas at two very different players, It is difficult to compare them. Ganso is more composed more tactical. He will hold up the ball a look for space of for the best pass. Lucas takes off like a charging bull with blistering pace and mesmerizing skill he will try to get past everyone and score himself. As soon as Ganso gets on the ball he is looking for the defense splitting pass Ganso has been very unfortunate with constant injuries and it is a very bad sign for a young player to be so injury prone. I really hope he gets past these proplems. It would be such a shame to see his talent go to waste if his career is ruined by injuries

Götze was quite excellent for Germany v Turkey tonight, played in the hole in lieu of Özil

My man Marco Reus also got on for Germany, as a last minute sub to finally make his Germany debut. He isn't quite at the level of the three mentioned but he's talented make no mistake, and cheaper as well.

Götze is certainly a star waiting to happen (or arguably a star already). The kid is just amazing. His pass to Müller for the second goal was just pinpoint accurate.

I agree completely with your statement on Reus. He's not at that level but he's got a lot of talent.

Germany 9-for-9! Now back to the original purpose of the thread.

I'd opt for a young Brazilian not on that list.

Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Junior.

Known as Oscar, he was fantastic in the U-21 World Cup. A complete, all-around player. He belongs to Inter, unfortunately.

In that same World Cup, Philippe Coutinho looked great early on but faded badly in the later stages of the competition. Oscar never faded, was tremendous throughout, ending with a hat-trick.

You mean Internacional the Brazilian club or are you talking about some deal in the pipes?

Oscar was good at that tournament but Lucas made his break through at the South American U-20 Championships. That was a better tournament where Lucas and Neymar were the stars of the show which led to Lucas getting the call up to the Brazil senior team at just 18. Lucas and Neymar didn't go to the U-20 world cup because they went to the Copa America with the senors instead. Oscar is good but he is no Lucas

I'd be happy with any of them.

For me, Thiago. Although the way Barca go about selling their youth, keeping hold of him would be another story.

Thiago, of course as a cule, but that is not the only reason. His development recently under Pep is astonishing. He has improved his defensive work tremendously, he can play at the tip of our midfield diamond (when we play 3 at the back) but also now on the flank. He has Iniesta dribbling skills, Xavi vision, composure and defensive ability and Ronaldinho's swagger.
