"Great football" - you are so, so mistaken.
The only brilliant play of the entire game was the Torres cross and the amazing Mata finish.
Yeah it was high tempo and enjoyable for neutrals but in no means was it a remarkable display of football ability. Especially considering 2 of the goals were pens and the other two were own goals.
The Swansea/Norwich/qpr games were possibly the most dire I have ever seen, and I wouldn't bet against normal service & 1-0/1-1 draws returning at everton

We seem to turn up well goal-wise for the big games then revert to crap for the other teams. Won't be surprised if the Everton game is a nail biter with one goal deciding it.
Question is why do the players seem motivated for the big ones but don't turn up for others?

I agree and tbh I am just hoping to get a point with Everton... I think AVB not only lost confidence in himself but more importantly the squad does not have any confidence in him either. The players get excited for the big matches and then seem to be motivated but I don't think it has anything to do with AVB. I wish things were different and I have been a staunch defender of him all season but my confidence in him is now gone. Really there are two options, let this ride out and see if things improve or sack him and bring in somebody else. I don't want to see yet another coach come in but I also don't want to see Chelsea struggle so badly! And I am not sold on the Jose only theory like some.

Bring in Jose ! We would never lose a 3:0 lead under Mourinho ! Even if web give them 3 penalties he will encourage so much the players, we would make it 5-3 !

Its odd to me that after Games like Villa Swansea QPR etc people are on here as if this one against the Champions is the one that proves AVB is not up to the Job...Its still ateam in transition, Its still a season where most here said they don't mind a couple of seasons without silverware if we bring in a new manager to change things and build for the future unyet this game more than the others we have come unstuck in had some real mitigating circumstances.
We just gave a debut to a new CB...we played without our captain (usually enough in itself to dread a big game, we played without a player still classed as the best LB in football...we had no viable option other to play a plainly mentally washed striker when a Drogba in even the half right frame of mind would have scared them sh*tless today...we had no Lampard our top scorer this term and were almost forced to leave Malouda who apart from a couple of flashes looked like he'd rather be somewhere else, had Ramires been fit the energy levels would have been trebled in midfield.
Essien a player we feared would be gone forever after the injuries looks to be a player again.
we saw that Mata is not just a novelty and can do it against the best, Luiz put the ball about very well, Ivan was good, Bos done his usual decent Job at LB, Cahill looks like he will fit in and there were some positives there if anyone wants to see them.
Back Webb all you like on the penalties as you've got the hump with another manager but the second one was silly soft.
I'm actually more positive after that and knowing we have players coming back than I have been most of the season.

Before the game I'd have been well happy with a draw, but happier still that we scared the sh*t out of them and they needed help from the ref to get back in it, they'll know next time we can play at their level even with a depleted squad and in a season of transition.

I don't agree, in this game they are the winners and we are the losers.Becasue i can bet 1 mil dollars that we won't win our next game and they will win theirs.

you are such a bunch of wingers,ok we threw a 3 goal lead away, and i wont get that out my head for about three days.but look on the bright side.We were cheated that second pen gave them complete impetus to draw level.Be honest we all would taken a draw before the game on current form, i dont like it but that is the truth.first half after our first goal they could of scored 6 in reality and cahill was lucky to stay on,i was impressed by him after that though. The wayne rooney man of the match infuriated me more than the result to be honest.
Juan mata was the best player on the pitch by a country mile, the goal his creativity vision ,pace passing and general play is brilliant and a joy to watch.Mata is still learning his trade and i think he has been the buy of the season. We had our captain, lamps, ramires{player of the year 4 cfc] cole, drogba and to lesser effect kalou missing today.they form the real base of our team at the minute bar kalou,If any other top six side had those influential players missing and still beat man utd barring a robbing cheating ref, they would be delighted. We can all moan about 2 points dropped but i think it will effect them more than us.
AVB is a young manager and is making it hard work for us all to watch at the minute, look at fergies first few years.i think this is such a frustrating year to be a cfc fan it is almost hard to watch,i.e the swansea match, that was my lowest point for about 10 years to be honest.
So i was actually expecting the worst today.cech was great today, bosingwa was better than normal so that makes him championship standard,i think luiz is starting to mature and realise his responsibilities, cahill looked good if only that shot had gone in,ivanovic never disapoints, meireles malouda are the two worst players i have ever seen in a royal blue shirt for the last six games.but and i stress but avb keeps picking malouda to our utter dismay.
Everyone goes on and on about why the hell does avb keep picking malouda on every site on the net.AND THE ANSWER IS there is noone else to play in that position in the club {WILLIAN HAZARD DI MARIA } were looked at,.mata is great i love him nuff said, torres hasnt scored and i am starting to wain on him, just shoot, but it doesnt help when your two main supply lines are malouda who is cronic at the minute ,and sturridge who point blank refuses to pass to torres i have seen it game after game.sturrigde will not pass to torres no matter what.you heard it here first, and why does avb keep playing sturridge there BCOZ THERE IS NO ONE ELSE.i reall y like avb and when the right players come in i think we will rule again.|IN his first year he has had racist captain stuff, two men sent off in a game, lampard to dea,l with club legend but on the wain.,torres nuff said, essien injured for 3 quarters of the season, the obvious age of half the team, constant media pressure, the special one looming again after saying he is quitting real.||||||||||||||||||This is a lot of crap to handle in your first year and he has always been positive and respectful.
|I love chelsea football club, this is a bad year with all the above have a guess what it might suprise some of you, bad tactics bad manager hasnt got the changing room, lamps isnt happy, drogba on the way out, terry the racist alledgedly, average age above 30 malouda kalou meireles shouldnt be there,This is a transitional year ,playing badly hasnt got a clue BUT YOU KNOW WHAT WE ARE CFC AND WE ARE STILL FFING FOURTH so cheer up and get behind them all.can you imagine what avb cud do with a good year a settled team up the cfc up the avb and ktbffh

There is no bright side here dude, i was more optimistic for the team when we lost 1-3 at OT then now, because we played shi t today and lets be honest we got luckily 3-0 up.Only the second goal was good, other two were ricoshets. So not only we played shi t today but also got humiliated, being 3-0 up at home against ANY opposition and lose it is just pure humiliation to me.

the games all about opinions Dude...if you're happier with a 3-1 defeat than a 3-3 draw then ours opinions are miles apart.

Heres a question for the people that started the season well happy to be rid of Carlo and have got the new flavour of the month in to take us through a transition period and build a team to his vision.
Don't get me wrong that was the last thing I wanted at the end of last season as I thought Carlo was superb but once he was given the Job and the theory was that he would make a change toward some more attractive football while building a squad with some new players and letting go of some of the older high earners I gave him and the team my usual full support...I can't say I agree with him coming in and I can't say I would have chosen him (nor any change) but I support him now.
Do the people who wanted Carlo out and pretty much any new man in feel happy and think AVB can do the Job?
Do the people who really liked the look of AVB and were pleased when we got him feel happy and still think he can do the job?
Do people like me who wanted Carlo to stay feel happy and think he can dot he Job?
Does anybody feel that with the job priorities being this transition that he has not had enough time to be looking over his shoulder already?
I wondered if anyone would like to say where they stood on his appointment and how they feel now, I can remember a few responces at the time but just wondered if people would be happy enough to say "yes I wanted AVB and I still feel he can do it" or "no I wanted Harry Redknap and he would have been great"
If it gets some replies it'll be something to talk about if not and the Mods want to merge it somewhere then ok.

i was for sacking carlo but in retrospect i think it was a poor decision. i feel it would be too soon to sack avb, i still think he may come good.
i dont think hes a poor manager, i do think some fans are overrating our team. some of our players shouldve been gone a long time ago, and some shouldnt even been signed in the first place.
i expect us to finish 4th, and since the spurs IMO have a better team than us it is about the spot we deserve

I wanted Carlo to stay desperately. Primarily because I wanted to see where we stand with Hiddink/Turkey and Mourinho/Madrid, and by the time we would have hit summer surely at least one of these would be on the market.
I said AVB wasn't some miracle tactician when we got him but everyone was so blinded by the hype that they ignored me. I didnt like his 13m release clause it's a huge waste of money IMHO
I will support him till the end of this season and see where we stand.. If either of those managers are available I'd get them (especially mou) irrelevant of our placing, as AVB has completely disappointed me in terms of his tactical nouse, motivation and youth. I fear that he's just not good enough for this club and every week he proves that.

I was behind the appointment and I was very vocal in terms of not wanting Carlo.
The reasons for both have been done to death.
To answer the question, I still stand behind AVB, He has done a few things that have truly pissed me of, playing boswinga at right back today, taking sturiddge of and ever playing malouda to name a few. but.....
What i saw and I have to say saw, in the early part of the season is a manager that was able to identify the issues we had and put the solutions in place. And a manager that wasnt picking players on the size of there pay packet.
unfortunately we didn't get all the players we wanted and things havent gone completely to plan. I think AVB is still learning some things and I'm hoping that we are going to see a bit more aggreshion in terms of transfers in and out.
For me i want him to be given next season at least with the caviat that if Jose is availible we take him

Didnt want Avram, Scolari, Guus or Carlo, certainly did'nt want AVB.
Pardew, Rodgers, O'Neil, Redknapp, the only forienger I would of considered was the one that started this circus, Jose.

I feel today he had a magnificent opportunity to really make a statement about who we are and what we want to do. At 3-1 the amount of problems we were causing them on the counter were unbelievable and I feel had he made better decisions there were defo a couple more goals for us in the game.
Admittedly at the minute we are scratching for a full side and although the Ess was outstanding he quite rightly died around 60-70 mins.
I just feel if Jose is available and will come. We will be stupid not to get him back. Give him a long contract with no stupid release clauses and let him do the business. He has proved he can play attacking attractive football at Madrid. Give him money and a clear objective what we want. A fast attractive team, a fair team without controversy. And let him do it !!
