i dont think Cech is as bad as some people make him out to be, next season lets keep the Thiboit boy and see what hes made of, i was also impressed with the boy Leno from Genk, hes pulled off some great saves in CL and with a decent defence in front of him he could turn out to be not a bad purchase

I don't think anyone that has posted suggested that he is bad, poor or needs replacing, the question was whether or not he seems hesitant since his injury, I think he has in certain situations but that's only my observation.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I couldn't find one specifically about Courtios, anyway apparentally he's been unbeaten for 455 minutes and has 10 clean sheets in 19 league games according to twitter, not sure how reliable it is. However good signs for the future if it's true, it also said that he's expected to be back here in the summer.

Courtois will be at Atletico next season still at the very least I should imagine. I watch a lot of spanish football and the guy looks top notch! The fans love him over there and tbh im a little worried he'll prefer to stay there as a hero than return here and risk not making the cut!

The thing is I still rank chec as one of the best in the world. Add to that that he's only 29 and keepers can go in to there mid to later 30's. Maybe im getting a little attached but it will be difficult to get courtois in think

Difficult to get him in, with regards to playing time. he's clearly talented and at a top european club starting, he's not going to want to come back and sit on our bench but how do you drop the best keeper you have ever had who is still one of the best availible

Courtois has said today he would like to go on loan to a Premier League side for next year to get better adapted to the English game. Sounds like a smart move, would be nice if Schwarzer left Fulham and Courtois was able to stay close to his new home, but game time obviously takes precedence over location.

Cech like every other player out there needs a bit of competition to make him perform, this is lacking in a lot
of positions currently and contributes to the malaise, at the height of its pomp this team had 2 top internationals for almost every spot.
Bring back the young keeper if he out performs Cech in pre season he should get the gloves, just like what happened
with Carlo who at the time was considered one of the best in the prem. Cech was 22 & came from Rennes & was untried
in the prem at that time, Courtois will be 20 and will have had a season in La Liga under his belt.

I think we definitely need Courtois next season, to give Cech some competitons. When we signed Cech, Cuddcini was a classy keeper, and most of us thought Cech would sit on the bench for a while. He came in, got a string of clean sheets, and the rest is history.

lack of clean sheets is down to dfensive shaoe of whole team not cech...he has made the odd error or two in games, but has still been very solid on the whole...against utd he made a number of fine saves and had little chance with the goals we conceded...courtois is clearly a very exciting prospect and me thinks Cech already knows he's under pressure for his place...if he's doing well at atletico it means he is ready for first team football here too...certainly good idea for him to be tested by english football on loan too though

When a man breaks free on goal with the ball before him, there aren't many keeper I'd choose over Cech to make the stop. He's just brilliant at it. He has developed a bit of weakness on balls in the air. But he's top class.
I'm all for Courtois playing somewhere else the next 2, perhaps 3 seasons. Assuming Chelsea still have him under contract at that time, and assuming he's still playing well, that might be when they should bring him home and consider a switch.

Courtois is ranked about 7th at the moment....Cech is not even in the top 10.....

Im bumping this for 2 reasons. One to big up the big man, he has been outstanding the last few months, but also because I was wondering if anyone else thinks Courtois signing and subsequent great form in Spain has seen Cech realise he needed to raise his game and we have seen the benefits of it lately.

I was watching the game with a neutral yesterday (well, he's a Preston fan) and after seeing Cech palm that ball out from under the crossbar, he said "You've got to keep Cech, he's unbelievable".
And he's right. Any thought of dodgy performances by the big man have disappeared. Courtois is gonna find it hard to get the Number 1 jersey from rock-solid Petr...

That might be one reason. The main thing for me is that he's not afraid anymore. He bosses the 16 meter box like he used to before his head injury. Back to being the best keeper in the world in my opinion.
However, if I can complain about one thing... His left foot has become rubbish. For every out-kick he hits correct he misses one. It's frustrating, but hey, he saves us nearly every game nowadays. Wouldn't have any other :)

Thanks for bumping this dkw.
Good on Petr for showing this thread is a load of tosh.
Do I think Courtois had an influence? Maybe. But I'd say it probably had more to do with him not being continually exposed by a suicidal defensive strategy that didn't play to the strengths of our players.

I don't think the kid on the block will worry Cech at all. Well not for now anyway. It has already been said that he will go on loan again next season.
As for Cech right now he has been nothing short of fantastic. Back to the standard of old. He has kept us in so many games this season. Got to be in the top 3 for player of the season.
