Here's my short and sweet opinion on the Suarez case.

He deserved to get punished in my eyes, even though it is a misunderstanding of culture and words. He needs to learn words like that are not accepted in this country. BUT, I do feel the ban is quite harsh. 4/5 games would of been fairer.

Suarez shirts:

I don't think it was a bad idea, but I don't think it was a good idea at the same time. It sends out the wrong message completely. It would of been miles better if they were wearing an anti-racism shirt.

HOWEVER, I do think that Suarez on his return from the ban and games that are coming up, he should be protected. Every ground he will go, he will constantly get booed and get called all sorts of names. Same sort of thing will happen to John Terry, if found guilty.

Suarez is not a racist, he has just used a word which is misunderstood in this country but at the same time he needs to learn about cultural differences.

That is a pretty fair post in my opinion.  I am not sure how Suarez can be protected though.  If you mean that leniency should be shown toward him if he reacts to fans taunting him then I would disagree with you.  There have been many players subject to vitriol from fans over the years (from all teams) and to a large extent the player needs to rise above it and not react to it.  Football fans are, to be frank, big jessies.  They can attack players for 90 minutes (verbally at least) but as soon as a player gives them the finger, or has the audacity to celebrate a goal in front of them then they act as if they are victims of a heinous crime.

Suarez, like Beckham did, and like JT did last night will need to concentrate on his game and block out the abuse.

I hope they can trace the people writing stuff like that and punish them most severely.

Most of them are so stupid they use their real names and pictures anyway. Won't be difficult.

Not sure that's true mate.

1. The death threat/threats were posted on an internet board.

2. They may not have been posted by a Chelsea fan/fans.

3. Frisk was in his last season as a ref.

4. He was always an attention-seeking prat.

I was trying to be ironic! The point was there was allegedly a single death threat, that was never traced (as far as I know) to a Chelsea supporter. Since then, there have been numerous death threats (eg. v Neil Lennon, v Gerrard for thinking of signing for Chelsea, v Drogba, for scoring against Liverpool in a CL SF - that one is still on a Liverpool website, and should be dealt with by the cops), but the Chelsea-Frisk one ALWAYs gets brought up. That stuff against Evra is on another level of viciousness altogether.

He's a nasty piece of work.

Disgusted at the way Liverpool have ignored racism, and I imagine some of their genuine, level headed fans
are deeply embarrassed by it.

On a Suarez thread on the Guardian site, someone posted a link to that page. As quick as you like, a Victimpool fan replied "Probably other fans trying to smear LFC". I pointed out Liverpool had form for blaming other clubs for their own fans' misdeeds, and linked to an article on RAWK where the LFC chairman blamed Chelsea fans for the trouble at Heysel.
My post has been removed!

What I keep hearing is that Suarez case is baseless, based only on Evra’s word.  That’s why Terry is a different matter, there is video evidence.

Yet that makes no sense to me for the following reasons.

We have Suarez, who admits to using the word, and Evra who claims he used them repeatedly.  Suarez claims he didn’t know Evra found it offensive, yet we have video evidence of the ref talking to both of them and then Suarez trying to get friendly with Evra by placing his hand on his head, only for Evra to react in a near violent manner of disgust, throwing Suarez arm away and spitting out.  That’s video proof of Evra showing he is disgusted with the way Suarez has been treating him, there is no plausible way that Saurez can claim he didn’t know that word deeply offended Evra.

To me, that video evidence, in coordination with Suarez statement, is just as conclusive as the evidence against Terry if not more so (unless there are video angles that catch the whole conversation that haven’t been made public).

Never mind the fact a person living in Europe for so long should just know this most basic of norms.  If he uses that term regularly, he is essentially saying that every single black person in Europe he ever said that too never took offence. Even if none did, in that many years not a single person educated him?  Laughable.  That’s like me living in Britain for 5 years and claiming I didn’t know they had a national Football team.  It could happen, but it would truly be a remarkable case.  Thing is, Suarez has played with and against many black players.  So I suppose that’s more like me writing in a sports section for a British rag for 5 years, and not knowing they had a national team.

To say nothing for the numerous websites that were COMBING the internet after the Ovrebo game, looking for anything directed toward him which, reportedly,'

"reportedly"

forced him to be hustled into a black truck and flown out of the country with security.

All over a 12 year old on facebook

:laugh2:

its an absolute f**king joke how that was covered, compared to people saying "Im going to kill that f**king n***er Evra" and almost NOBODY SAYS ANYTHING. But they have so badly mishandled this they in addition to looking like racists, they look like violent, paranoid, hypocrites.
