It's not impossible that we tried to get him, but I would not believe Marca.

Maybe Mourinho wants him out so he can return to Chelsea and have Higuain here too! Have to dream don't I?

That theory would be more applicable to Portuguese players. Jose does tend to favour them. It might seem odd that Higuain is out of favour there, but look at the attacking talent they have. It must be insanely hard to compete for places in that team and Benzema is a bit of a favourite there. He'd walk into any prem side.

It's funny how things change. Last season it seemed that Higuain was in form and was Jose's preferred striker. Then he was injured. Benzema didn't look good as his replacement. One of Jose's internal power struggles was over buying a new striker. He ended up settling for Adebayor, which didn't work out.
Somehow Benzema transformed himself over the summer and became Jose's first choice over a now-healthy Higuain. He does look a little more confident and a little less clumsy than he did last season. Not sure how Higuain fell out of favor, though.
They strike me as being similar players. Anyone disagree?

tbf, Benzema knuckled down & played his way out of form, scoring goals & proving he still had it. If only that could happen for Torres.

They've got different styles. Both quite skilled and both quite agile/fast when they have room to run. But Higuain is more of that "on the shoulder of the last defender" striker who lurks in the box and often steals in quickly to exploit a pass or score. He's very intelligent and what impresses me most about him is an ability to come on as a sub and score pretty regularly. Reminds me of Inzaghi in that way. His consistency is something else.
Benz is more physical and (as ben says) his return to form this year has shown that he has so much ability with the ball at his feet as a hold up player. Ive watched a lot of Madrid this year, and he often get the ball punted up to him and is able to use some creativity to shield the ball, and then play in an onrushing Ozil/Ronaldo. In addition to being a bigger threat in the air, Benz also has the big boot so his shot is a threat from well outside the box.
Obviously the goal scoring records speak for themselves. Magnificent players this year and I would love either one at SB.

This is a bad idea IMO. Our only good players in passing the ball are Lampard & Mata, Lampard has not contributed much other than his goalscoring and we have nobody who can cross well or beat a man. Cole & Mata being slight exeptions as they have provided a few decent crosses so far.
There is a reason why Drogba and Torres have so few goals. What is their goal tally in the premier league? 2 goals from Torres and 3 from Drogba? People wanting Lukaku to start or Sturridge to move to CF will be disappointed IMO. They both wont score much and their hold up play/headers/passing is far worse than Drogba or Torres.
The finishing is not the biggest problem I feel. Rather it's chances, and how good they are. I think we have been relegation tier creativity levels in the past month or so.

I like the idea of Higuain but in place of who?
As much as it strains me to say, I'd hope he would be to replace drogba, who could and most likely will move on in the summer rather than us cutting our losses and ditching Torres. Sometimes footballers are like TV shows, their time should always end on a high. If drogba leaves in the summer he will always be remembered as one of our great forwards. If he gets his new 2 year contract, i'd hate to see him fade away and become a week link in the team.
I think his game is purley missing goals, because his movement and general manner has been much much better of late. I agree with CHELS2 in that finishing is not the issue, its creating the chances to finish

Firstly Pipita is a matter of Pride for Madridistas, so don't see him leaving anywhere, he is their next Raul and with rumours of Jose departing never gonna happen.
Secondly put Pipita, Pato, Etto, Kun as our CF, they would still find it difficult to score. The reason being neither can we cross neither cane we feed the ball.
So don't see him leaving a perfectly loving and Trophy challenging(which is etched on stone) environment Real Madrid to come at SB where the MF is absconding.
