Chelsea chase rising star Lucas Moura but Brazilian is unlikely to move before the summer

Chelsea are in talks to sign Lucas Moura, one of the rising stars of Brazilian football, who is understood to have an €80 million (£66.8 million) release clause in his contract at Sao Paulo.

Although Chelsea are not now expected to make a bid before the January transfer window closes on Tuesday — and never intended offering anywhere near the release clause amount for the 19 year-old attacking midfielder — it is understood that they will renew their interest in the summer if a more reasonable fee can be discussed.

Lucas has been regarded as the top target of Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, who has exhausted every avenue in attempting to persuade Sao Paulo to agree to a deal over the last few weeks. A few days ago sources put the club’s chances of signing the Brazilian international during this window at “no more than five per cent” and it is now believed Chelsea have decided against making an offer.

Sources in Brazil claimed on Wednesday that Chelsea, who face competition from a host of Europe’s top clubs including Inter Milan, had offered €35 million (£29 million) for Lucas but it is understood that no formal bid has been submitted this month. Lucas and his advisers, who include the influential agent Wagner Ribeiro, have told Sao Paulo that he will remain in Brazil until the summer

There was some mention in the British press this morning about us being linked to the lad but for nowehere near the monetary figure you mention. 35m for a 17 year old? - no chance. Figures quoted over here have been around the 8m mark

Wrong Lucas, Geezer.

This one is Brazilian, the one you're on about is Argentinian and is called Lucas Ocampos I think.

He is 19 and hea full senior Brazil international, He's not just some joker. He is a genuine world class young player. He is worth €35m. Any Carroll cost €40m and he is bloody useless. Lucas is the real deal

I've heard he's decent & I like your name for Carroll, Annie suits his hair style a lot better.

Maybe it was the British press that got it wrong? Anyway why the hell are so many Brazilians called Lucas? Shouldn't it be Lucasinho or something?

I've got a good idea. They should use their last names, like the rest of the world does. Simple way to avoid confision. I blame Pele. :Connie_threaten:

That wouldn't work either as most of the players would have Da Silva on their shirts, Most Brazilians have 4 parts to their names like
Lucas Moura full name is Lucas Rodrigues Moura da Silva.
David Luiz is David Luiz Moreira Marinho
Ramires is Ramires Santos do Nascimento

Marinho and Nascimento for Luiz and Ramires? I'd take that.
