Chris Sutton? Or was it that the team just didn't change it's style entirely to suit him?

He isn't a superstar, but he's a decent defensive midfielder who seems surprisingly loyal to the club and has occasional good games. I don't complain, even though I think that Romeu is a better player.

He's alright, he's good enough for a club like Sunderland, but not Chelsea.

Some fans on here seem to forget anything past the last 6 months or so. Mikel started more than half our games in the double season and was generally not thrown abuse at during those. He was third behind Lampard and Cech in the MOTM polls in the Hiddink season. Played every minute of our Cup final wins over United and Everton and every game till the final in the double season. I think the constant changing of managers has also had an effect on players like him and Kalou who have looked like having very good spells under one manager(Hiddink mainly) only for a new one to come in. Mikel has not lived up to the hype or even close to it, for whatever reason, but he's been a useful part of our squad. I'd be happy for him to stay, but If AVB decides that he doesn't fit into whatever he's trying to implement, then I'll understand letting him go and wish him the best.

Agreed. A useful squad player who had a couple of good years as a starter is hardly the worst thing Chelsea have spend eight digits on since Roman came. Mutu, Shevchenko, Torres, and SWP all cost at least as much (noticeably more for all but Mutu), and all did less for the club. And that's without going further back for the likes of Sutton.

Only cost a few million less and blows Mikel out of the water as far as 'terrible signings' go, although he might not even be the worst himself.

It has to be Torres. Cant see how anyone can argue its not.
Oh yeah, he set up a goal the other week and shouldve had a penalty. Maybe not then.

Hah!
Canetti said it best: people love as self recognition what they hate as an accusation.
A thread of some stupidity.

Wow this thread seems to be catching a lot of feelings, everyone getting a bit emotional...
I actually didnt even realise I had any replies to this post but oh well, slight over exagerration on my part for the title but I just think he is a poor player; clumsy, slow, a poor tackler..
And its not that I want to produce negativity, I just thought Mikel was a waste of money and someone who never really shone.
Didn't realise everyone thought so highly of him. Oh well, not a bad response for a first post haha.
