Even Messi has negatives. It's about what he does well vs what he does wrong and to me he has been a very good player for us.

Hmmm, I'm finding it hard to think of any, other than a bit of a naff hair-cut!!

He has enough money to buy new ones! First, check the roof and neighbors lawn.

I'm inclined to agree with most of what wxwax, there are times where if Sturridge passes the chances are we score, but he doesn't, I'm sure there's been points we've dropped where this has happened, but he's won us our fair share of points. If he would just put the team first, which is the most important thing as a football player, no? He'd be even better, saying that, at 22 you wouldn't expect him to be the finished article.

I like Sturridge but he can be very greedy.

No I in team Danny!

If Torres had Dannys confidence he would be banging the goals in by now

There is no I in team but there is an I in; Torres is sh*t, if I give him the ball he won't score anyway.

Sorry back on point.  I agree that he's nowhere near the finished article - specially as a winger.  But that's the point, he's not a winger he's a centre forward and has been his entire life.  To my mind he should be playing through the middle with another striker as part of a 4-4-2.  We shouldn't be looking to out a very very good, young, exciting footballer - I thought that's the direction the club were trying to take at the moment.

It's his passing. Or the lack of it. If you accept that the goal drought from the centerforward position is a serious problem this season, then you have to look at Sturridge's unwillingness to pass, and his poor quality of passes, as a major reason for the drought. New position? Possibly. (Did he play CF for Citeh? Can't remember. I wonder if he played CF in training the past few seasons?)

I understand that very few people here will agree with me. But I think that a major part of Studge's poor passing is his mentality. He doesn't want to pass. He wants to score. He wants to be a CF. He doesn't want to shape his game to the needs of the team.

And I think that mentality is hurting Chelsea as much as it helps them team.

I think this is a valid point.
Looking at the stats for the Man Utd game, he only attempted 18 passes: less than half of the number that the famously 'selfish' Malouda attempted on the other side. I'm not sure it's entirely down to selfishness however; he can't cross on his right foot and he's probably the best we've got in terms of getting into space behind a full-back. Therefore the logical step if you are terrible at passing and excellent at scoring is to cut inside and run at goal.

This is so true.

Torres is doing pretty much everything right, until he gets in front of goal then the negative thoughts get the better of him, it's like he's so scared of potential failure that he's rarely willing to shoot.

Danny on the other hand is the complete opposite - his belief and confidence can be a great asset, but there's a fine line between that and simply being selfish, and I fear too many times he's been on the wrong side of that.

I don't think playing him on the right helps at times either, he is very reluctant to pass at the best of times, but factor in the fact he may as well not even have a right foot means there's very little chance of him ever putting a good cross or pass in. I think AVB should switch him to another position. Maybe try him on the left (instead of Malouda) and Ramires or Kalou could fill in on the right.

Essien - Romeu - Mata
Ramires - Torres - Sturridge

I don't like it. There is no Mata and I don't see Ramires being successfull as a winger.

Damn! Sorry my plan was to play Mata further back to thread through those lovely balls that seemingly only he is capable of.

I'm also inclined to agree about Ramires, but right now who is a better option? I'd like to see Malouda's role in the team gradually become less than it is right now, sorry Flo'.

He definitely has his faults! Not huge ones, but I don't think he's as complete as Drogba or Ronaldo. Imagine him going up against this pair in the air. Better player than both for sure though.

I love Drogs, but I'm sorry are you saying he's better than Messi?

But i thought he wanted  a new contract worth loads of money and was demanding (yes, demanding) to play in the middle of the attack or he would leave. Or go to Arsenal, or something. Hey, if you cant trust the papers nowadays who can you trust.....
