"we believe development of Chelsea FC is integral to the prosperity of the borough.  The stadium will be seen across the world"

That's a pretty cool statement

One thing Dan Levene has tweeted which I think he is wrong about is the matter of appeal following a descion. My understanding is that it's only the applicant ( Chelsea) than can appeal the committee descion that said it would still be possible for the Mayor to call the plans in following the descion today

There can always be an appeal if a group can argue or  demonstrate the Council hasn't implemented planning policy & law correctly.

As far as I am aware there is no third party rights whatsoever to appeal yes an application could be made for a judicial review on the grounds you suggest but that would be unlikely to be granted in this instance

Assuming H&F Planners have covered all the bases then yes I agree there would be little reason to apply for a JR or Public Inquiry but there are always those vexatious litigants who like to delay and hold up schemes just to get their their moment of glory and make a point. Delay is probably the best any JR could hope to achieve. I'm thinking for example about the stadium featuring in the sight-lines of St Pauls from Richmond Park. That's been a cause célèbre in the media recently recently and it's something seemingly innocuous like that can be exploited and trip you up. Hopefully we get an overwhelming approval from the planners and the Club continues to work with the neighbours to smooth over any concerns.

Among the billion and one documents there's an Arboriculture Report which says  'The loss of these trees will be buffered by significant new tree planting adjacent to the East Raft'.

http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/01/news-on-stadium-planning-application.html

More than a year ago, a planning application for a new stadium at Stamford Bridge with an expanded seating capacity was submitted to our local council, Hammersmith & Fulham.

Over the past 12 months we have consulted widely with neighbouring residents, local businesses, statutory authorities and continued to work closely with the council.

Tonight the council’s planning committee considered the application and we are grateful that planning permission was granted for the redevelopment of our historic home.

The committee decision does not mean that work can begin on site. This is just the latest step, although a significant one, that we have to take before we can commence work, including obtaining various other permissions.

We will continue to inform you of progress throughout this process.

Thank you for your continued support.

The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust is delighted to learn that Hammersmith & Fulham Council Planning Committee have approved the planning application for the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge.

The Club has been at the heart of the community for 112 years and we welcome both the decision made by Mr Abramovich to redevelop the football stadium rather than move to another part of London and the Council’s unanimous decision to approve these exciting and ambitious plans. Stamford Bridge and Chelsea FC can now remain part of the community for many years to come, playing football in one of the finest Stadiums in the country and one that reflects our rich history.

Mr Abramovich’s team should be congratulated for their sensitive handling of and full engagement with supporters and the wider community in putting the planning submission together.

As supporters we are mindful that there will be much change and perhaps some inconvenience during the rebuilding period with a temporary move to another stadium and then with the move back to the new stadium once the redevelopment has been completed.

The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust will do our best to communicate the views and concerns of Chelsea supporters to the Club during the transition and are mandated by our membership to do so.

With regard to the move to a temporary stadium we will continue to seek dialogue with the club on matters such as ticket pricing to mitigate the additional expense and inconvenience of travelling to a temporary stadium; to encourage and increase the opportunity for younger supporters to gain access to reasonably priced tickets to games in the temporary stadium and to assist with plans to create the best possible atmosphere at matches through sensitive seating plans where like-minded supporters can congregate together.

During the redevelopment we will continue to talk to the appointed consultants, the club and other relevant stakeholders to help ensure supporter opinion is properly and openly taken into account with regard to issues such as facilities, ticket pricing, safe standing, seating plans and atmosphere as we look to move back to the redeveloped stadium.

Whilst planning permission hopefully goes a long way to safeguarding the future of Stamford Bridge, the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust will continue to support the Chelsea Pitch Owners in their aims to keep Chelsea FC playing football in the stadium now and for generations to come.

Exciting times ahead.

For a long time it looked like this was a pipe dream building on our current ground, thankfully it seems to be nearly sealed. I can't wait to take my son to this stadium

So is this going to be an expansion, or knocking down the current stadium and re-building on the same spot?

Pity we couldn't push it up tp 65 to 70k capacity, we'll need that in 5 years.

Hopefully in meantime laws will change to allow safe standing areas, thus increasing capacity somewhat.
