Real Madrid vs Chelsea. Ann Arbor July 30th

Eton Blue at the Chelsea Megastore

This will be first ever Chelsea game. Beyond excited even if it is only preseason. Is anyone else going to the game? I'm going with a group of guys and we will be tailgating before if anyone wants to meet up.

Eager to see how some of our youth will do against Madrid. I wonder if Miazga will be making an appearance due to him being American.

Sounds good fun, do they not have any local boozers near the grounds in America?

No idea, but perhaps US stadiums are a bit outside of a city, with only a soulless mall in the vicinity, or on college grounds where any drop of alcohol is banned from being sold.

I'm just guessing here

What is tailgating?

UK - Where you drive up behind someone really close and intimidate them

US - getting hammered before a game with a bunch of fans in a car park / parking lot !

I once 'tail gated' with a few mates when I was in US, when going to a Penn State vs Ohio State..... American Football game, it was better fun than the game!

I understand it's a pre-match party with lots of booze and food in the parking lot near the stadium. It's supposed to be great fun.

The Scottish equivalent is a few scoops of beer, wine and whatever cheap booze is on offer behind the stadium, stagger to get a overpriced burger then stumble to the stadium entrance.

Everything sounds a bit better in the states..

It can depend on the stadium.  I live in Washington State now, and in Seattle the Football and Baseball stadiums are close enough to downtown that you can drink in the bars near the stadium and stagger over to the games.

However, other stadiums, due to the sheer size of them and the space occupied by parking lots, mean that they can be on the outskirts of downtown to accommodate the game-day masses.  This means that some fans show up, claim a segment of teh parking lot for themselves, set up TV's, grills, bars, smokers, etc, and basically have them and their friends set up a living room/ back yard experience right there in the car park.  It is quite a spectacle, and is prevalent mainly in Football (american Football) in both the Professional and College scene.

I have a fried that is a Chicago Bears season ticket holder, and he is part of a group that have, essentially, a mobile cooking station that they tow to games and cook all day long.  How they even remember some of the games, I'll never know.

If it was me I wouldnt be having too many, that you aren't in the right state of mind to appreciate the footy.

A few just to relax you is enough. Much more than that spoils it, for me at least.
