Help!

Eton Blue at the Chelsea Megastore

Recommended Posts

Sorry to sound like a total n00b but I want to start up my own website, which is going to be a lifestyle blog. I already have my own blog on blogger, but this time I want to buy a domain name and set up a proper website.

I know that the first thing I have to do is buy the domain name, which is easy enough. But then what? Does anyone know of a easy web page building site? I don't know html code or any of that sh*t.

@Zeta , is this your area of expertise?

Thanks

BB

A lot of hosting companies have one click installs of things like wordpress (which is the best thing to use for blogs and cms I think)

For instance, if you click that vidahost banner at the top of the forum, you can buy your domain name, then pick a hosting package for it and install wordpress via your hosting panel. Will take about 20 minutes in all.

Yeah, if you're new to it all, something like wordpress would be the easiest thing to do. You can download/buy themes for it to make it look basically however you want, then the content management is very blog-like, so you can edit sections of the site, add new posts, new pages, etc...

You could just google "wordpress hosting", or there is this page which suggests a few you could look at: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wordpress-hosting/ You should be able to find one which lets you buy the domain name at the same time, as loads of people do that, instead of having to mess around buying it from a registrar and then applying it to the website.

Thanks Mod! Naturally, you're going to promote this site's host haha!

Great, cheers Zeta. I'll definitely have a look at Wordpress's hosting.

Well, they are cheap are quite reliable, use them for all websites and took some years before finding a hosting company that didn't go down more than a Dutch hooker (no offence Val)

The Shed End Forum relies on revenue to pay for hosting and upgrades. While we try to keep adverts as unobtrusive as possible, we need to show these to make sure we can stay online and continue to keep the forum running. Over the years costs have become very high.

Could you please allow adverts on this domain by switching it off and whitelisting the website? Some of the advert banners can actually be closed to avoid interference with your experience on The Shed End.

If you don't want to view any adverts while logged in and using your account, consider using the Ad-Free Subscription which is renewable every year. To buy a subscription, log in to your account and click the link under the Newbies forum on the home page.

Cheers now!

Sure, let me in!
