They wont win the league now. Drew against Milan puts them 4 points behind Juventus with 5 games to play. Juventus are absolutely clinical in that league, especially this season. They have ben an absolute machine. Napoli could be ending the season with 90+ points and they still wont be close to the league title because Juve are so good this year.

they both played again yesterday mate. juventus drew away to crotone and napoli beat udinese 4-2 at home. napoli are four points behind juventus and they both play each other this sunday. if napoli win that then there's a point in it.

Did not realise that. Big game at the weekend then.

This guy is amazing.

The only question mark for me, is his complete unwillingness to rotate his squad, that´s a big problem IMO

You must understand that he doesn't have he luxury of a large squad of players capable to come in and do a job. That first team he has is his best team. Apparently there was a stat saying the current napoli first 11 have played 9000 mins more than juventus. Staggering.

On top of this their best left back ghoulam has a long term injury and hasn't played since the group stages of CL last year. Taking those things into consideration, they probably shouldn't be close to juventus in the league.

His style of football is called "vertical tika taka" because he believes in moving the ball forward as fast as possible, rather than keeping possession for possession sake. It's why some prefer his style over pep.

Watched the Juvenile Inter until around 75mins... 2-1 up they were, Inter.

Thought they would have it in the bag, switched it off and later see 2-3 loss.

The goalkeeper looked like he had been bribed. Abysmal keeping. Not oven putting out his hands to stop anything.

Never seen anything like it.

It's a big issue and part of why they haven't competed in Europe. He is also very rigid with the way he plays. No Plan B at all.

In fairness to Sarri, Napoli are hardly big spenders. They only spent around 20 million on new players this season

He took a team that had finished 5th and turned them into title challengers playing insanely good football, he also lost one of his best players in Higuain yet still kept Napoli in contention

I'd love to see what he'd be able to do with more money and better players. He turned the likes of Insigne and Mertens into two of the most feared attackers in Italy, imagine what he could do with someone like Hazard

The worry might be that players see he hasn't won a ton of trophies and at the first sign of difficulty throw the toys out of the pram. Language barrier, new ideas, odd quirks he might have...

It's happened before of course.

Whoever does come in, the board need to back him properly, and fans need to be prepared for possibly extended less than ideal time with the stadium and reduced spending power when it comes to the transfer market.

I can understand the skepticism from people because he hasn't won anything, but he's still a new coach at this level. He is managing a Napoli side who have never won anything before, and they don't have a large squad or the type of quality we have or could buy. They do have a handful of good players, but overrall their players don't scream out at you "World Class!" because they're above average players, for the most part, who have been coached by Sarri into the machine they are today. I think if Sarri came here, it would be different because we have a group of players who have won stuff previously. They know how to win and can cope with the pressure, whereas a group of players like Napoli's aren't used to dealing with the pressure a title chase brings, especially doing so against that well oiled, trophy winning machine that is Juventus.

In Italy it's such a tough task to break the mould of Juventus' domination. I don't believe winning nothing means a coach is poor, just as equally that a manager who has won lots isn't always a master tactician. Sometimes it is all about right place, right time and if the pieces fall into place. For the top managers, usually this is the case, whether they won stuff when there were less competition or whether they had the financial advantage, or just everything fell into place and they achieved something magical (ala Ranieri with Leicester). Ultimately, judging Sarri on his lack of trophies is too rudimentary. He simply hasn't been given the chance to coach at top team with better resources behind them.

Few people mention the fact that Sarri hasn't won anything and it's a fair point, the same applies to the likes of Jardim and Tuchel who have barely won anything

The thing is, do we really want another manager in the mould of Conte and Mourinho? Managers that have a win at all costs mentality, where youth players barely get given opportunities and aiming for short term success instead of sacrificing it for long term success?

We seriously need to plan long term now, we can't blow teams out of the water with our spending, we can't always buy ourselves out of trouble, we have a stadium to pay for and we have one of the best academies in world football. We need a change of direction, we need a manager who will be happy to lay foundations, slowly build a team, create an identity and integrate our talented youth players

Yes we may go a couple of seasons without a major title but the long term gains will be worth it

I dont care that he hasn't won anything, I just think he is a bit old and hasn't got any experience of the premier league.

the closest comparison to sarri for me, would be pellegrini. came to england and won the premier league with man city. he was about sarri's age when he came and had only won cups in south america. compared to sarri, he already had established himself as coach for many years before that unlike sarri who got into coaching late.

But he had never achieved such plaudits for his playing style and coaching ability, looking at Napoli with a small squad and limited budget.

Jose, Carlo and Antonio had no premier league experience.....

Jose and Antonio didn't stick around. Journeymen.

I want a project manager like Eddie Howe or Wagner. I know it won't happen, but I want a manager who wants to build something. Like poch or klopp.

rumours growing stronger. he apparently told his coaching staff to learn english quickly as his agent has been talking to chelsea for months.

Juventus' victory at San Siro and the Italian defeat in Florence have accelerated the championship discourse but also linked to the future of Napoli's bench . Maurizio Sarriand Aurelio de Laurentiis have not yet found an agreement for the renewal of the contract and Chelsea continues to push : this is why, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport , the coach has pre-warned his staff on the possible need to quickly learn the English , a language that he already knows for his past in the bank.

The agent Alessandro Pellegrini is pursuing contacts with the Blues but also the Naples does not remain with hands in hand. And after the suggestion Benitez, the English voices of a possible "exchange" of benches between Sarri and Conte, now comes a resounding voice, reported by Tuttosport . De Laurentiis is in fact thinking of Carlo Ancelotti as a new coach and has already launched his offensive through trusted people. It would be the president's clear will to consider the current cycle over to open an even more ambitious one.

In addition to Benitez, Conte and Ancelotti, the names rose for the blue bench also includes Giampaolo, Emery, Fonseca, Simone Inzaghi and Gasperini.

The British media are going strong, on the possibility that Maurizio Sarri will become the new coach of Chelsea for the next years. This is no longer an indiscretion, therefore, but a negotiation that is taking shape and that could be defined as soon as possible. Having said that the era Conte is in the finishing line, Roman Abramovich would have identified in the Naples coach the man to whom to entrust the new cycle that will start from next season. A project that in addition to providing for the achievement of some important goal, should also include greater quality in the game. With Antonio Conte won a Premier League last year, but has never been enchanted by the attitude of the team: he also wants the show and was entranced by the work done by Sarri in the three years of Naples.

CONTACTS - With the English club is holding the Neapolitan technician Alessandro Pellegrini, who has already met some emissaries of Chelsea to check if there are the conditions necessary for his client to move to England. In fact, the discourse linked to the rescission clause remains open: Aurelio De Laurentiis will not make any discount. And we're talking about 8 million, an important figure but not so much to scare the Chelsea magnate. Before any other decision Sarri will have to meet the president of Naples and, perhaps, inform him of this English contact. In addition, it seems that the coach has alerted some of his staff on the need to learn English quickly, a language he knows well for his previous banking activity. If everything was confirmed, then you will not even need to face the topic related to the revision of the contract, especially the economic side: the coach has asked 4 million per season, De Laurentiis is still at 3.5 including bonuses. But this is not the real obstacle.

COMPETITIVENESS - It is on this aspect that the two have divergent ideas. Sarri wants targeted purchases, which guarantee him and the team greater competitiveness both in Italy and in Europe. De Laurentiis, on the other hand, wants to insist on young people, invest in them and then regain future sales. Sarri should strive to make the most of the workforce, to give more opportunities to those who usually sit on the bench on Sunday. What the coach did little or nothing in these years of Naples. All speeches that will be addressed, in any case, only when the championship has issued its verdict. Having said that the ranking leaves little hope for the Scudetto to Napoli, the president has decided not to disturb the work of the technician. Until the arithmetic will not close the account-ranking, there is

HEREDITY' - The toto succession has been open for some weeks now. The sensation that Sarri leaves at the end of the season is strong in the city. In practice, the coach will have until May 31 to exercise the right of withdrawal provided for by the clause. The other hypothesis, very remote, is that both De Laurentiis to dismiss him and, then, in this case he will have to pay his trainer a penalty of 500 thousand euros. The most common name is that of Marco Giampaolo, a Sampdoria technician, who has been linked to the Dorian club for another year. But in the same agreement it is expected that if the coach were to get offers from more prestigious clubs, the company would free him. The character Giampaolo likes a lot to De Laurentiis and he also likes his football, very similar to that of Sarri. There was also talk of Unai Emery,
