we got what we deserved... in fact we got more than we deserved from the campaign.

Can someone post the first two goals? I haven't seen them but I've heard that Carson made a mistake on one of them. In my oppinion he made a mistake on the last one too because his positioning was off {SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif
Any chance England can make Cudicini an englishman? {SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif

You really don't want to see the first one, trust me. {SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif Terrible mistake.

I think he could be eligable you know?
He is eligable to play for England, but I think he already rejected the offer in the past (I might be wrong on this one).

emphasis on Gerrad's verdict "he was outshone by Modric"
ouch 3 for bridge and carson, but to be fair carson was terrible.

actually, i think the suns write-up is pretty well spot on...
in the first half i remember remarking i hadnt seen lamps touch the ball..
but then when he took the penalty i knew this was his career on the line. he had made high-profile misses before..
if he were to miss now, it would be him on the back pages, surely. i felt so nervous for him, and willed him to score.
when he did, it was pretty damn good!
Crouch was our best player all night, and the guy is probably our best striker, bar none. i mean that as well, rooney is a liabllity which cancels out his skill, owen cant stay fit long enough to play a tournament, defoe and bent are also rans.
his goals Vs. minutes on pitch must be mental, hes just not fashionable enough to ever be taken seriously.
also - im sorry but what the F was Sol doing leaving his marker to SWP to go and do lescotts job for their second goal??
it wasnt SWP's fault, sol ran off to mark the ball carrier who had TWO people on him and left the guy who would receive the ball to score alone with SWP to clean up!!

Bridge one of the main reasons you lost... just not fit enough for that.
It was individual errors and team selection that cost you, in that weather...

I would agree with the Suns ratings... fair.. thought that Lamps was slightly better than Gerrard. You have to admire his guts for the Penalty.. Remember there was a couple of stickers on, Beckham.. etc normal pen takers. he has been roundly booed for the past few months and missed a few....
that took some guts... Maybe deserves England MOM for that reason alone.
Croatia is looked good to me, and this was not lost in one game. We should have cruised the group.

I pretty much agree with those ratings maybe I would have given Gerard 4,fist waving and diving dont add up to a 5 for me, and Barry 3 but other than that pretty fair.
shame we never had much to choose from on the night when you think about it
with Bridge and A Cole both not really fit, no Terry, Ferddinand and a Debut Goalie I suppose we were always going to have a tough night,
but that really still should not add up to 3 goals against us at Home.
Looking at it again Crouch, SWP, and Beckham, looked up for it maybe Joey although never looking threatening was pretty tenacious in possesion but the rest must be feeling they have let everyone down.
McClaren was never the right choice but the players should shoulder a lot of the blame for last nights performance.

We got what we deserved, or to put it another way, we got what a rookie goalkeeper and a makeshift back four should expect to get when faced with quality opposition- a beating. So, no surprise when a few goals go in, yet to hear the Media this morning you would think that it’s all down to inept management. No doubt this will be followed by wise after the event criticism of 4-3-3 and the obligatory words in praise of the good old English standby 4-4-2 that almost got us out of trouble.
When will we ever learn that technically better teams will nearly always end up defeating one supposedly built on bulldog spirit whose stand-in captain evokes the special atmosphere of some long forgotten night in Istanbul attended by only one current England player - himself. Thank heavens one TV pundit, Alan Hansen, came to his senses with some long overdue criticism of Gerrard, albeit lost in the general flogging of the dead horse performances of those around him on the night.
Having long since turned to club football for solace when faced with International dross (jeez even I’m beginning to sound like the gleeful Arse fans who are rubbishing everything English at the moment) I had to smile when, late in the game and deep in his own half, Luca Modric sent a manic Stevie G the wrong way, turned him inside out again as he came back for more, before drilling an inch perfect pass down the right flank to Ivica Olic - we really must try to sign this guy and play him in a similar role in a 4--1-3-2, supported by a ’minder’ like Essien.
Further Chels related thoughts - Bridgey was dreadful defending against Olic, no doubt due in part to a complete lack of confidence in the three immediately to his right, and Joe battled better than most because he could at least combine a combative streak with technical skill. Lamps toiled away without ever having the influence of Kovac or the space finding magic of Modric, but he stuck the penalty away coolly and, unlike his midfield partner, passed the ball with a measure of accuracy. One final related thought - should Jose decide to take the ego trip to Soho Square, what price An immediate and very public fall out with a certain Liverpool player as soon as he’s hooked off the park early on for not tracking back.
