apologies loz, always thought you were scottish for some reason...as for me moaning about mcleish, it's only cos he and the scots fans on 606 were still going on about that free kick today...time should have calmed them down a bit and made them realise that they were lucky to be drawing in the first place

gotta be honest, ive been sick of all this braveheart guff this week. why should we english want them to qualify? every second scot interviewed on the radio or telly finsihed with "and even better, england wont be there" well balanced the jocks. chips on both shoulders. scots goal offside, italy had a perfectly good goal disallowed. result was a fair one for me.

For all those Chelsea fans who are accusing the Scots of whinging about being cheated - do none of you remember how you felt when Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League SF against the scouse scum? We might not have deserved to win the tie over two legs, but we lost to a goal that never was.
Same thing with Scotland - the Italians were clearly the better team, though Scotland put up a brave fight. Scotland didn't deserve to win the game, but they were beaten by a goal that came from a free-kick that should never have been given. There's a lot of posters on here with double standards.

And dkw.....I agree with you that the English shouldn't want the Scots to qualify. I can't understand why any Englishman would want Scotland to do well, just as I wouldn't expect any self-respecting Scot to wish England well. Though, for you to say that the 'jocks' have chips on both shoulders is a bit rich - how would English fans have reacted in similar circumstances? English fans are probably the most blinkered in the world - always seem to think they're going to win every competition they enter, then moan like f*ck when they inevitably fail.

Although I'm half English, I can't bring myself to cheer England on. I've only recently started to watch England games, what with so many Chelsea players featuring, but there are too many players in the team that I absolutely hate - Beckham, Gerrard, Rooney, Ferdinand, Neville(s), Crouch, to name but a few. There's no way I could ever bring myself to support a team which contains those players. And don't get me started on the manager........ {SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif

The way I see it is like this, the Scots scored a goal which was off side, the Italians were awarded a free kick which wasn't. (not a goal, but a free kick which does not automatically mean a goal).

Scotland had a great campaign and did the nation proud, as have the league teams in Europe. The game in Scotland has made huge progress and looks like it will continue.

{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif  {SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif  sorry bluebeard, just trying to get a bite. i live 40 miles or so away from the scottish border, and got a couple of mates from glasgae. and believe me, they were looking forward to ripping into me if russia won. same as i ripped into them sunday. having seen how the majority of scots hate us and love nothing me than watching the english fail, i cant understand why a lot of english wanted scotland to do well. nothing against you as a people, just the footie fans.

I wasn't fuessed if scotland made it or not, until all the cocky pre-match boasts and all the post match whinging...tougher group than england's? yes...why? cos england regularly qualify for tournaments so get a higher seeding and get a better draw...just like Chelsea now do in the champions league etc...
as for bluebeard's comments about england fans thinking they're going to win every time we enter? the press and the players may go on about it, but most england fans i know accept we will go out on pens in the quarter finals having done a typical 'lionhearts back to the walls' performance {SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif
as for the manager, the worst thing about israel doing us a favour and if england get the right result on weds, it will mean he will stay in the job when he is clearly hopeless...it's embarrassing listening to him...he still sounds like he should be in charge of a muppet club like middlesbrough

Agree totally. I can only think that those English who want to see Scotland do well don't personally know any Scots themselves.
Personally I was delighted to see them go out and the controversial free-kick just made it even more funny (sorry Bluebeard, nothing personal)

And I'd rather face Scotland at Euro 2008 than Italy!

I'm sure all of our Scottish friends north of the border will be right behind England tonight.. {SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif

...after all, who will they support in the Euros if England aren't there?  {SMILIES_PATH}/300.gif
If England qualify then they'll be able to get behind every country that comes up against England - simple!

To be honest, I am immensely proud of the Scots over the course of the qualifying campaign, and particularly in this match. No way did we deserve to lose this game, even if a draw would in all likelihood have eliminated us anyway. The Italians were really just hanging on once Scotland equalized, and although clear cut chances were few and far between, confidence was on the rise and even Cannavaro accepted they were getting worried.

The free kick at the end that led to the winner was a blatant mistake, and that ultimately is the most frustrating thing about it. I think the performance merited a positive result, which a draw would have been, considering the opposition.

Anyway, keep this up and the future is certainly bright.

Cheers,

Butch

Well I  think the scottish public should be proud of there national  team they done the country proud !  well done Scotland.

Cheers mate.

Look, on the night the better team went through, end of.  I think the fact that the Scottish team managed to beat France both at home and away is something to be very proud of. However, in usual Scottish fashion, we bugger it up away to an under-age and under-performing Georgian side!

I think McLeish's reaction was fair, and spoken with the passion that any manager would feel losing like that right at the end.  At least he is a manager who is passionate, and doesn't really care about how the media perceive him.  McLaren could have learned from that!

Anyway, onward and upward, I now feel a tinge of optimism about the WC qualifiers.

Scottish and proud of it!!!!!!!!
