but that wasn't necessarily the case as the first choice was scolari, he wa going to do it, but we ballsed it up by making it public while he was still in charge of portugal preparing for the world cup and he pulled out

Just heard a re-run of the interview McClaren gave yesterday following his dismissal. Although he apparently called the gathering, all he said when questioned was "I don't think that's a question for now" or "that's a question for another day". Yet again another total waste of everyones time.

What a  {SMILIES_PATH}/w**k2.gif  of the very highest order.
Didn't he also say that this was not a question for the current audience?

Rumour has it that McCretin is saving it for a forthcoming book (fiction? fantasy?) to be published next year. If true, I hardly need to say that anyone outside McClueless's immediate family who is daft enough to go out and buy such a book is in serious need of psychiatric treatment. And/or a good kicking.

While a book would explain the idiot's reticence, the level of arrogance and smugness betrayed by such an attitude beggar's belief. He may as well say "hey I've got my £2,000,000 payoff and I'm going to make another million from my book so f**k you".

Just a word on Crouch.  He won most balls that were played up to him but when doing that he failed miserably to find a teammate with his flick-ons (which were more accurately just the ball bouncing off his head).  You may as well not get your head to the ball if you can't direct your headers.  A well taken goal though.

I totally agree.

Crouch won quite a few headers throughout the game - some of the time there were no England players near enough to pick up his flick ons, but most of the time Crouch had 3 or 4 options to find a colleague, and headed straight to a Croatian player. Crouch only wins headers because of his freakish height - that doesn't mean that he's good in the air, he isn't. His inability to direct headers accurately is an embarrassment at international level.

Must say, though, he took his goal extremely well.

not sure if you can see the video on that page but bilic told his side not to challenge crouch in the air but mark the knock ons.

he said it was easy to mark one slow striker and one tactic.

on beckham... as loz said, he stands out so much from SWP who isn't able to cross at all.

Well it's hardly a revolutionary tactic is it?

Billic outhought him, as Hiddink did with ease.

England need to find better groups of young players from somewhere, and employ a manager who is tactically sound. Unfortunately, i dont think there is an English one?

His name is Terry Venables.
