interesting signing-

obviously a quality player, and this is his last chance to win thing and perform at a high level- his problems always came about due to his ambition and often impatient, but he always got on well with his actual teammates, so I'm not too worried about that side...

he's a very good footballer, with a good record re: fitness - compare it to united's deal for saha or spurs' deal for bent. Would start him ahead of pizzaro tomorrow.

Interesting comment on the official site:

Avram Grant has expressed hope the transfer of Nicolas Anelka will be finalised in time for the player to line-up against Tottenham tomorrow - a game he rates as a big test for his team

here's my biggest concern about Anelka:

[youtube:39d1jfh6][/youtube:39d1jfh6]

WTF is that?  i mean, i know it's french, but come on!  even accounting for the fact it's french, it doesn't make sense.

scene one: Anelka and rugby boy are working in a fast food restaurant, calmly enjoying dinner

scene two: for no explainable reason, tension mounts rather quickly, and the two give each death stares

scene three: Anelka and rugby boy are in the kitchen with their heads clashing against each other, much like two boxers on weigh-in day

scene four: they start to disrobe, then show off for each other with tricks, before running through the back kitchen together, squaring off?  fighting?  (wait, this is starting to sound like a gay pr0n movie???)

scene five: they each kick an empty fast food box against the wall.  hooray.

scene six: cue the disgusting burgers with...wait, did you guys *write* on the bun?  aw, god, i don't want to eat that!

scene seven: they now stand back to back, prostitituting their individual burgers towards the cameras in a vain and pathetic attempt to convince you to eat his meat, and not the other guy's meat

welcome, nicolas -- i guess Avram chose your meat.

the way they say "beurguerr" is quite awesome though.

As the only francophone here (am I??) I can say that, when you understand the voiced over text, it doesn't get any better. hahaha {SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif
Probably was a really bad promotion of a fast food chain, for the movie Harold and Kumar go to White Castle.

Anelka has/had some serious issues with discipline. But now he is older and wise (at least I hope so), and he might be amazing for a few years. Nobody denies that he is one of the most gifted football players that France delivered over the past decade.

like i said, i fully expect a miserable spell at fenerbahce would have slapped his attitude into place.

he was grateful as hell to be back in the UK, bolton or anyone, and since a top club has thrown him his last ever lifeline hes not gonna feck this one up.

im feeling very good about our old buddy nic...

Looks like Drogs could be having a rethink?

Drogba reveals Anelka delight
by Alex Livie, 15 January 2008

Didier Drogba is relishing the prospect of playing alongside Nicolas Anelka when he returns from the African Cup of Nations.

The Ivory Coast star has seen Chelsea shell out £15 million to bring in Anelka while he is away on international duty.

Anelka will have to lead the line while Drogba is in Ghana, but the Ivorian is already looking forward to his return to Stamford Bridge.

“I want to see a great Chelsea attack and his inclusion only makes us stronger," Drogba told The Sun.

“You know I speak French too, so we’ll be buddies. Perhaps we can use the language to our advantage during a match.

“I’ll love to play alongside Anelka and form a terrifying partnership.

“He’s a great player. I know what it is to have him in our team and I am not threatened by his coming in. We will complement each other and all of us have a role to play."

Drogba also rubbished suggestions that the pair could be vying for the same spot in the team.

“Anelka is a good forward — but he will only complement me rather than fighting for the position with me,” added Drogba.

“I don’t think it will affect my position in the team when I return. Do people expect me to start fighting Anelka? No, we’re friends.

“We all welcome him into the club. I am not bothered at all, I’ll keep scoring no matter who joins us.”

Could this mean Drogba is staying next year?  {SMILIES_PATH}/woot2.gif And I can't wait to see them both in action. Plus, the 4-4-2 could fit us much more with the players we have at the moment.

I think it will honestly depend on what happens with Mourinho.  If he starts a job at a big club in Italy or Spain (who have the finances to pay him close to 100k per week) then he will go.

It is not a foregone conclusion that JM will get one of these jobs though.  Last I heard was that Milan are happy with Ancelotti again.

If the special one is still job-hunting in the summer, there is a good chance we might hang on to Didier if you ask me.

Just found this about that fine upstanding club Arsenal and how they ripped off PSG when they stole Anelka:

Quote

"When Arsenal signed the 17- year-old Nicolas Anelka from Paris St-Germain in 1997, the French club cried foul. Had the young striker gone to another French side, PSG would have been able to claim huge compensation. As he moved abroad, Arsenal - accused of unethical dealing - were not duty-bound to pay anything and made an undisclosed (probably small) payment." (see article below)

http://findarticles....p/articles/mi_q ... i_n9656022

and

"[C]lubs such as Arsenal are busily active in Europe, in quest of teenaged talent. Such, notoriously, as that of Nicolas Anelka, already a first-team striker at Paris Saint-Germain when the Gunners came after him and taking advantage of the anomalies in UEFA and European legislation regarding under-aged players swept him off to Highbury, free gratis and for nothing, to the rage of PSG. In due course, the Gunners sent PSG a somewhat derisory and placatory GBP 500,000, selling him on eventually to Real Madrid for over GBP 20 million."

Didn't they do the same with Fabrecheat?
