We're getting him at a stage in his career when he knows he's got one last chance at 'The Big Time'. And if he cocks it up, through his attitude or his lack of goals, then his career will be remembered for unfulfilled potential, more than anything else. And I suspect this will be the thing that'll keep him on the straight and narrow.
27/28 is the peak of a striker's powers. So we're buying the right player at the right time. For once.
He's as natural a goal scorer as you'll find in the EPL, and his finishing reminds me of Jimmy. Plus, he's quick, level headed in front of goal, and is an intelligent striker in a way Sheva can only remember by watching videos of himself from half a decade ago.
Kalou, more than anyone else, will learn so much from playing with him. And I could see these two becoming close. Kalou has a lot of Anelka's good points, but timing and making intelligent runs and picking out the right pass aren't necessarily amongst them. Watch this space, because this partnership will catch people unawares.
We'll get a guaranteed 15 plus goals out of him every season in the EPL. Plus more in the cups.
For the few short months that he and Drogs will be able to play together (before Drog goes to Milan with JM) - they will be the Hammer and Sickle strike partnership that Roman wanted when he bought Sheva. And the goals should flow.
