Why has this guy never been mentioned ? Doesn't his loan period end on 31 Dec.? If he comes back and is as good as Capello seems to think, then we can offload the two carthorses - Alex and Ivanovic.
Mancienne

I have been impressed by the lad and hope that he comes back to the Bridge as soon as possible. If he fufils his potential he could be the long term sucessor to John Terry at the back. I generally do believe that M. is capable.

Alex and Ivan are not carthorses by any means. But if its between losing Mancienne and keeping a player who probably doesnt want to be with us past the summer then lets offload Alex to a team who want to pay well for him.
Ivanovic is the last person we should be losing right now. He is excellent

alex and ivanovch are far from been cart horses, they are good solid players
mancienne is also good but needs 1st team regular experience which he's getting at wolves, hopefully he will come back the bridge and fight for a regular blue shirt

Alex and Ivanovic are indeed decent players, but if Alex wants to leave in January, then letting him go (we should get at least £8m for him, right?) and bringing Mancienne back seems like the most sensible option.
The only thing that would prevent this would be if Mancienne wanted regular football week in, week out, and isn't content with being fourth choice centre back.

Mancienne is good up and coming pro who is now gaining valuable experience of club football. Watching him playing for Wolves the other week he is still a good way short of being a regular premiership player. Another 6 mths on loan will do him the world of good. Of course if Alex does leave in the window we would seriously have to consider recalling him ....though this could be a backward step in his development.

Thanks ES, was going to say, Mancienne has been a hot topic of conversation on these boards for sometime now! I think Alex will go in either January or the summer, I then hope we can keep a hold of Ivan, and the Mancienne breaks into the first team where he is slowly introuced to first team football, a la JT

Looks a huge prospect.

My guess is he's being bought back for cover, but with Alex injured, JT suspended and Ricky just coming back to fitness, you never know. I think Southend is the perfect chance to give him, but I suspect we'll see JT and Invanovic/Ricky.

Scolari will field a young team in Saturday's FA Cup third round tie against League One side Southend at Stamford Bridge, but the Brazilian is adamant he is not disrespecting the competition.
Centre-back Michael Mancienne, who was called up by England after a successful loan spell at Wolverhampton, is likely to feature, while Lee Sawyer and Jeffrey Bruma are also in the squad.

Mancienne has been recalled from his loan at Wolves - interesting. does this mean that either Alex or Ivanovic are on their way?

I'm starting to wonder the same Bluebeard. JT is available again and Ricky is now back from injury. Even if Alex has an injury at the moment we still have temporary cover in Ivanovic. However if we were planning to sell one of the 4 then we would want Mancienne back as our 4th defender for the rest of the season. So that leads me to think you are right. If Alex really wants to leave I think we will probably cash in on him although Ivanovic is possible too . Scolari knows he needs to sell if he wants to bring in new players. Bridge and Alex/Ivanovic could raise at least 20 million for new signings.
Apparently Mancienne may start tomorrow now too according to BBC. I'm excited by that news and hope to see more of him this season. Lets not also forget that he is very effective at right back too so would be great cover for Boswinga.

I am very excited to see Mancienne in the royal blue and see a few other youth products as well.
However, my joy will be crushed if they sell Ivanovic over Alex. Alex is good, but Ivan the Terrible is clearly a stud in the making. IMO he has been our best defender since Riccy went down, bar none, and the club would be mad to sell him for anything less than a king's ransom, so its better not to bother at all

Yeah, I agree but even though Scolari says there will be changes, he doesn't seem to give youngsters a chance, Di Santo only plays about 2 minutes a game, Stoch, only play about 5 minutes. But only time will tell...

IF we do let a few youngsters play, I think this might be a signal of good things to come. Keep an eye on one or two prospects...bleed them in with the experience that we have in the team, and give them a shot to try and prove themselves.
Think Mancienne's recall is a sign that we may lose Alex right enough

Scolari seems to be giving hints to this defense for tonight's game:
--A Cole------------------------------------------------------------Ivanovic--
----------------------Mancienne-------------Carvalho------------------------
Or perhaps..
--Belletti------------------------------------------------------------Ferreira--
----------------------Mancienne------------Ivanovic-------------------------
I wouldn't mind either, though the first one is much more balanced than the second one.

I have a feeling Carvalho will start alongside Ivanovic in the centre and Mancienne will be on the bench.
