An important goal for his confidence. Had a good game against Huddersfield, let's hope he will keep playing in that way.

And Hazard gave it straight to Willian, because he knows something about football and how it's played.

    Jose Mourinho thread

I think Jose's temper got the better of him, not for the first time. He was sore at losing. It was an unpalatable defeat. His team was outclassed, by THEM. He was outclassed, by HIM. THEY broke the record for consecutive wins at Old Trafford, and they went 11 clear in the process. Jesus that must have hurt. He couldn't handle it. He lashed out, having a go at the ref, unfairly, and starting a fight with City over their celebrating, which they are perfectly entitled to do. Jose made it toxic before a ball was kicked, accusing City's players of diving and trying to put pressure on the ref. Ironically, and typically, one of his players was caught diving during the match. Everything else follows on from there, the toxicity Jose introduced. It will only get more toxic, as it did between Real and Barca, and Jose will hope it will galvanise his squad and rattle City, eventually, because they have more meetings to come, both this season and in the ensuing seasons. Unfortunately for Jose, this strategy only has a short shelf-life, as has been proven throughout his career. It may go to plan in the near-future but pretty soon the toxicity will be too much to bear, and along with the refs, the authorities, the media and his rivals, his players will also get fed up with it and he'll lose them, because he doesn't have another string to his bow. He simply does not know another way to motivate players. He needs to ratchet it up, but you can only do that for so long until things get overcooked and then it all just crashes and burns. Edit: Jose will plead innocence but the common denominator in all this toxicity is always him. Jesus am I looking forward to it. So glad he's gone from our club.

If we ditch him and bring him someone sh*t like Benteke I'm going to revolt.

Willian was my MOTM. He had a major part in the game last night. He's constantly getting stick on here, so when he plays well it's only right it's acknowledged.

    *Official* Pedro to Chelsea

I don't think he was great tonight, but i think i prefer him in the team over being out of it. I know our current formation get's Fabregas into the team and it suits Hazard better, but when it comes to the team as a whole, we don't look as good. I think we look more fluid with Pedro and Hazard playing as wingers and coming inside to cause trouble. Hazard playing centrally is great to watch, but he can't do it on his own and if Fabregas can't pick out his passes, we look out of ideas. I think playing with two wingers suits the team better because they are constantly moving and keeping the opposition guessing. Eventually they create space for themselves and the wing backs which causes the opposition to leave gaps. You don't see that so much when Hazard is playing through the middle and Fabregas is in the centre. Eveything is through the middle and the wing backs are isolated going forward. I would rather we went back to last season's formation with Pedro in the team, it suited us better.

Mourinho would never celebrate in the face of a defeated rival, would he? He would never run down a touchline beating his chest and knee sliding in front of the opposition fans. At least City did in behind closed doors. In their own dressing room. Utd is a team full of detestable man babies.

A very good game from him, the best I've seen him at. I give him a lot of slack but he made me eat my words today and I hope he continuously does that in the future.

Said a lot that within two minutes of being on the pitch he was flagged for being about 8 yards offside.

    Michy Batshuayi to Chelsea

he is effectively 3rd choice striker now. He can't really complain, a front 3 of hazard pedro and Willian have comfortably won every game they have been used for I think. Bats is a good finisher, but I think we need another forward who can challenge for one of the wide spots aswell.

Think Conte might be shooting himself in the foot with this one. I feel the club has resisted all efforts by him to shift him out their £30m+ signing and with good reason. Look around Europe and bar City, you are hardly ever going to find 2/3 forwards in one team who are of the desired level. Lukaku & Zlatan only works because the latter is on huge wages and is on a short term deal. The impact on Lukaku is such that he has withdrawn into his shell ever since Zlatan has been fit, and he is the one that gets shifted to the flanks. Aguero is a club legend and Jesus is his apprentice. They are probably the only duo that can work in tandem, and even Pep has made his reasons public for not playing both together. Arsenal have Lacazette & Giroud, Liverpool have Sturridge and Solanke, Tottenham have Kane and Llorente this season, Bayern don’t have a backup to Lewandowski and are eyeing a 29yr old forward, Madrid have a youth team player as backup to Benzema. The reality is your main forward will have the bulk of the mins, bar injury and when he is getting rested. So your backup gets 15mins per game if he is lucky. That is why Spurs keep getting a new forward every season, because whoever they bring in flops either due to a lack of playing time or the lingering shadow of Kane. Soldado, Jansen and now Llorente have looked crap and the former 2 have essentially been given out for free and written off as a loss. Who is Conte thinking of bringing in come next month? We have been linked with Benteke and Rondon, are they really any upgrade if they aren’t firing for their present clubs? Assuming we manage to lure them in, how will they fare as bench players if they are not firing as a starting 11? Is the club just going to write off Bats as a loss because as long as Conte is here, he has no future? And what happens to the backup forward who might not be fancied by the next manager if come summer Conte decides to leave? Add to that, We will get ripped off because everyone knows we are desperate.

Great move attacking with three interchangeable forwards today. The movement was clearly bothering the Huddersfield defenders. Playing 3 in front against a parked bus looked vastly better than the two against West Ham. We used the space on the wings better in the case of the former. There were too many in the center in the latter and I hope we continue to see 3-4-3 against teams who are likely to sit back against us.

    Michy Batshuayi to Chelsea

He doesn't fit because he never gets more than 10 minutes. I agree the writing is on the wall, but it can hardly be down to poor form. He's done well to score the goals he's had given the time he's been on the pitch. When you're the only other striker in the team and the main striker is out and you still can't get a start you know you're not in the manager's plans.

    Willian

Nice to have a player like Willian who could seamlessly fit in the starting 11, even he's not an automatic pick anymore. He's not going to get to the next level, but out of every 10 games he play, he'd give 7/10 in 7-8 of them, we need the consistency in a long season. I'd keep him in the next 12-18 months unless we get a definite upgrade over him, which won't come easy.

Lukaku also starting to look a bit redundant as the ball does not come to him in the tight matches. Wonder when the penny might drop that his skillset although good is not the best.

Ha, a lot of the Utd fans I know have gone very quiet about The Special One! They were giving it large a while back but I think the realisation is beginning to hit. What they witnessed on Sunday - Utd being outclassed by a better footballing team on their sacred Old Trafford turf is how it's gonna be as Jose will always be too cautious to play it any different when it comes to the big games.

I had the privilege of being at the game when Jimmy burst on to the scene. His pace was electric compared to the other Charles 'Charlie' Charles's on the pitch. The opposition must have thought he was from outer space....as we all did!
