Erland Johnsen won player of the year in 95 and was very solid for us on occasions.

+ He never gets in trouble like Jose p.e. I believe Roman wants to give him extension but the Conte himself is wondering about ambition and the finances we will provide him to buy the players he wants. But right now, there is a stability in scores that I'm sure if Conte stays, will give us many battles for the title in upcoming years. Even this season we would be a real contender if City wasn't that perfect. I believe Chelsea can be like United in 2000's - champions many times and if we are not, due to some extraordinary performance like this one from City, and always involve in top 4. We had so many problems at the beginning of the season, it's unbelievable that we are right next to United. Give this man a new contract, and more importantly - the right amount of money for players. He totally deserves it.

Excuse me good sir, you seem to have a rather large chip on your shoulder. Would you like someone to remove it? How many players come from foreign leagues and need time to settle in and get use to the English game? Would you have us have sold Drogba?

Only Liverpool can pay 75m for a CB who wanted to go to them all along. It's so ridiculous that even City didn't pony up the cash. Van Dijk costs more than any of the current strikers bar Lukaku.

No one can deny his free kicks are brilliant. I feel like he is going to score every-time he takes one.

Yeah, this forum was a much better place back then. Oh you mean Mourinho's bitterness?

We definitely need more power from somewhere. We need more goals from the midfield. The new faces are settling well though. Rudigier has been fine at the back and has a goid passing range. Same for Christiansen. Baka missed some good shots but he has scored two goals and I feel he is starting to settle. Morata is good technically but his personality is a bit soft. He doesn’t come across as a leader, but he can do the job. It’s frustrating this season we are clearly not scoring enough goals. At least though the goals against is right up there.

Liverpool can attack well because klopp has set them up for that, and they will either nothing because of it, but will batter lesser teams along the way. Their defense is embarrassing. Seems utd fans are seeing what i saw in lukaku too now, he has been atrocious of late. "AAnyone else just given up on Lukaku? I'd love for him to prove me wrong but right now it feels like Mourinho was chasing the ghost of Drogba with that signing, without seemingly noticing that Rom has basically none of the attributes Drogba had that made him so effective in a Mourinho team. He's just perpetually caught on his heels, either too slow off the mark to get in between the defenders and the ball, or just having it nicked off him with ease when he does control it. I can look past the lack of technique on the ground if he was capable of a simple layoff/holdup game just so we don't concede possession constantly, but it feels like he's just incapable of even judging the flight of the ball, let alone get a head on it. Can't help but notice how the team seems to be trusting him less and less to hold up the ball either, they'll often pick a different option even when he's in a good position. The less said about his constant finger pointing at teammates, lack of celebrations and defensive work in our box the better.Dunno what it is, I'm usually happy enough to give players all the chances in the world to fail, hell I never gave up on Nani and Anderson ffs, but I can't help but have that feeling you get when you check your bank account after a night out and find out you somehow spent the better part of $200 with nothing but a hangover to show for it."

    our season so far...

I think our transfer activity in the summer didn't address some deficiencies in the squad which has led to our slight decline from last season, but considering all of that we've done reasonably well to remain in the top 4 and to still be competing in all other competitions at this stage. The aim from now until the end of the season would be to consolidate our spot in the top 4 and win a trophy or two (most likely FA Cup and/or League Cup). Manchester City is an outlier. Statistically speaking, there hasn't been a dominant team like them for years, and I think our 2004/2005 team is the closest thing resembling them.
  15. 2 points
All things considered, he's done a good job to steady the ship and have us comfortably in the top 4 at this stage. The aim is to consolidate our spot in the top 4 and win a trophy or two (most likely FA Cup and/or League Cup), which would be a good return in his second season. Whether he stays beyond this season is anyone's guess, but I would be disappointed to see him depart if that's how it transpires at the end of the season.

    our season so far...

Firstly, unlucky with the midfield injuries. Secondly, we only seemed to replace players rather than add different attacking options so became easier for other teams to know our game and to plan against us.

I don't care about United to be honest. They have been wobbling for a while now and will continue to drop more points playing the way they are. If we can get some consistent performances going then we should overtake them eventually.

This is it. The same sort who are quick to throw young players they don't like under the bus at the earliest opportunity then complain about losing them when they've developed into top players. Only been a few months and they want the man gone. Utter stupidity, imo. Give him a fair amount of time and then decide. Drinkwater is probably not fully fit but I've not been exactly impressed with him so far either, so not sure what some on here are clamouring about. (I think he'll do a solid-good job, eventually , though, Drinkwater that is.)

I don't rate City's defence that highly but they obviously haven't done that bad and Mendy and Stones have to come back from injury. City want to sign another CB at some point, awful team these City boys

Hindsight - the thing Chelsea fans are currently using in regards to Salah & KDB who weren’t give a chance and moved on to early. If this time next season he hasn’t improved fair enough but I’m willing to give the guy who turn Moses from deadweight to steady wing back a chance.

Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Well, its not guaranteed that he would be able to provide the same assists from completely different zone of the pitch. You see where his shots go? It's very unusual the way Dave's kicking the ball. He was on the right side, he was on the left side and simply he didn't deliver anything. I believe the way he is spinning the ball is possible only from where he stands right now. + he is the best defender in the team. Absolutely no need to change something that works.

Goals, goals, goals. Even though Morata has been excellent we are struggling. Watching the scoreless 140 odd minutes against Everton and Brighton highlighted our problem.

I thought the whole point of Boxing day football was that every team plays on that day ? Why the hell are Arsenal getting the Christmas period off, especially when they last played on the 22nd ? They don't have to play until 6 days after their last game. The rest of us had to play 3 days later.

    our season so far...

It's been up and down so far. I think what we lack the most is our killer instinct that we had last season. These days we are grinding games out rather than dominating them. Going forward, every player doesn't look as clinical. Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Fabregas, Alonso ( goals are still there though ) Moses, none of these players are offering as much going forward as they were last season. We are grinding wins out rather than performing well at the moment.

Take my usual 1-0 win. Come on Chelsea.
  40. 1 point
Can't say I'm that surprised. The 3-5-2 usually too defensive. Bakayoko is completely invisible. Just not needed in this game. They aren't looking to find him when he goes forward either like it's 10 men at the moment. Willian or Pedro should be on here. Lethargic. So predictable and pedestrian. Plodding passes, get ball to wing, knock in aimless crosses for Morata against a crowd of Brighton players.

Couldn't disagree more, he plays the same position to Willian/Pedro but is much more of a Messi-type playmaker relying on intelligence and incisive passing than a simple ball runner, and would have helped us unlock Everton today far better than Willian/Pedro did.

He could have done a better job this season with rotations. His mistrust of Batshuayi is beyond strange and now the lad barely looks match-fit.

I think the board will wait til the end of the season and depending on how well we do will offer him a new contract. I think he's shown his class, as fans we've got a great connection with him and would be nice to see him here long term and backed massively in the transfer market.
