There is room for improvement, but in terms of centre backs he is by far the best passer we have. Yes David Luiz can play a hollywood ball but very often they go very wrong. How you can say he's not a natural on the ball is beyond me, his passing stats don't lie. Really just watching him its easy to tell how comfortable he is. Yes he misplaced a few against Barcelona but if you look a bit further back than just one game you might discover how good he actually is in possession.

He bursts forward from the back into midfield numerous times this season. You can't do that at this level unless you're comfortable with the ball at your feet. He was praised so highly in Germany for his ability to play out from the back with calmness. Think you're a bit off the mark with this criticism.

  4. The 83-84 season has been mentioned a lot and rightly so but one thing that hasn't been was how brilliant it was seeing this man running round the pitch before the game waving his fist to the crowd. The ultimate Chelsea cult player in my opinion. I mentioned in a previous post that my mate got his shorts after the Leeds 5-0. One of the very few footballers who had tattoos before it came trendy and you could imagine him getting them done in a flea bitten bedsit.

    Andreas Christensen

I don't agree he's not natural on the ball. He's great on the ball. Rarely has a bad touch, rarely gives it away, has stepped forward and played some nice through balls aswell this season. Long passing and his left foot could do with an improvement, but you are comparing a peak John Terry to a 21 year old. JT improved his passing massively in his early to mid 20's, to the point he was one of the best passing centre backs in the world, but he certainly wasnt that ball playing centre back at 21.

John Terry could drop a 40 yard ball with his weaker foot straight to an attackers feet. His long range passing with both feet for a defender was superb. Looked as natural as any striker/midfielder when he was in the opposing teams goal.

I remember my first trip to old Trafford was on Harkins coach......we alighted quite close to the ground with his voice telling us that if any of us run we ll be walking home..Remember us singing THE song and many Chelsea going wild.....I was young so probably didn't take all things happening in, but I knew I loved it....Tomoz...2 2

  8. Well, if Sergio Busquets is world class, N'Golo Kante is out of this world. To be fair, he kinda already is, let's be honest. When he plays like he did against Barcelona you just sit back and clap. Absolute beast. Barcelona may have Messi, but they ain't got Kante. That Camp Nou game just gets more and more sexy. I truly believe it's going off in Catalonia. Kante, Hazard and Willian as a trio is nasty. Wish it was this Wednesday. Oh well, let's make sure we spank United and getting into that dominant mode. I guess we get so frustrated because there is so much genuine quality in the team.

    Eden Hazard

I agree, but Hazard has been asked to play that position far more than he should have this season. I thought signing Giroud was supposed to put a stop to this false 9 stuff. The reason why Batshuayi wasn't being picked was because he wasn't a striker who Conte could rely on to hold up play, so we bring one in who can do that job and we still go with the false 9 formation. It's not just hurting Hazard, it's hurting us. We lose so much going forward with Hazard up front. We need him running at players, not jumping for headers against defenders that are nearly a full foot taller than he is.

  12. Royal blue. Compare shirt colours of the one Ossies wearing with the one Zola's holding. For a while our kits were mid blue, which didn't look quite right IMO. Good to see the present kit is the proper colour and has the classic white stripe on the shorts.

    Our Youth on Loan

Mason Mount scored again for Vitesse. That's 7 goals and 2 assists in the league for him. He has clearly established himself as Vitesse best player and has been one of the best performers in the league since January. He really reminds me of De Bruyne. It would be a real shame if we mess this one up as well.

Cech has been awful at pens his whole career bar that night and Barca, just adds even more fuel to the theory that victory was orchestrated from above. I don't usually subscribe to that type of theory but 6 years on i still can't think of another reason it happened.

    Andreas Christensen

I wouldn't expect him to be on Azpilicueta's level, azpi is in his prime, and having started out as a right midfielder, you would expect him to good on the ball. It was a terrible pass, but that's all it was. Gerrard made at 3 terrible back passes that resulted in goals, in big games, but that doesnt mean he was a bad passer, or that he needed to work on his passing. The mistake was an error in judgement more than any underlying issue with his ability.

94% pass accuracy this season. Andreas is usually perfect on the ball. 1 awkward pass doesn't change that.

I don’t think you can judge keepers on penalties, players are very clever nowadays with how they approach them. Don’t forget Petr saved a very big one for us!

Mostly fair points. We'll have to agree to disagree there. Personally I think it's very hard to observe some of those things without sitting behind the keeper each week. That said my point wasn't to denigrate Cech, who I liked a great deal and defended when he was criticised extensively towards the end of his time here. But merely to say that Tibo is not expendable and is better than most are giving him credit for.

  27. I think rushing him into the first team was a big mistake. He hadn't played all season and we were playing him soon after we signed him. I actually never expected Barkley to make much of an impact this season. January signings rarely work out well straight away, it's usually the following season that you can tell if it was a good signing or not.

  29. But look at Real Madrid when they sold Makelele. Chelsea, Barcelona, Man United, Liverpool, AC Milan, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Lyon, all of these clubs were performing consistently better than Real Madrid. They were knocked out of the last 16 for 6 straight years (from 04-05 to 09-10) They lost to Roma, Arsenal and to Lyon in that period, this would be a big shock if it was to happen today. Remember Zidane's quote when they sold Makelele ? "Why put another layer of gold paint on the Bentley when you are losing the entire engine?" He was spot on with that quote. They weren't the same

    Callum Hudson-Odoi

Probably the most impressive part about Hudson-odoi is the amount he has improved since the beginning of last season. Last season to start with he was a talented player in a good Chelsea youth team. A standout but not a clear star of the side. When compared to the other attacking talents within his age group for the England U17 you would have to put him firmly behind Sancho, Gomes and Foden as the fourth best attacker. He was a great technical player with good passing who relied a bit too much on his pace to really succeed at the highest level. Now, he is quite clearly the best you

  32. I have to keep reminding myself he's here too. We've tried to get some English lads back in the team this year with Drinkwater and Barkley being signed and the failed pursuit of Oxlade-Chamberlain. Thing is.... We might have been better off just showing a bit of faith in Chalobah and Loftus-Cheek... They might have delivered similarly, if not better. Should send him loan to Liverpool, just for LOLz, or the Bantz or whatever the kids are calling it nowadays.

    Random Rumours

Newcastle's Jamaal Lascelles is being targeted by Chelsea according to the Evening Standard. Looks like a fairly good English centre back from what I've seen of him this season. He might be a replacement for David Luiz in the summer. https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-target-newcastle-united-captain-jamaal-lascelles-as-club-looks-to-bloster-defence-in-summer-a3773141.html

    Eden Hazard

Is this quote from the daily mirror true ? "I might have touched 25 balls that night and 15 of them were flying towards my head. That is not really playing to my qualities. I won some aerial duels against Gerard Pique, and that’s not bad.But if I had to choose, I prefer to play like I did in the last 10 minutes, which was out wide. But it’s the manager who has the final word. On the wing I feel more comfortable. That’s my place."

    Thibaut Courtois

I think he's great. I'm not sure about the rose coloured glasses when it comes to Cech. His prime lasted perhaps 2 and a bit seasons? Tibo is in my view a better keeper than Cech was post injury. His dominance in the air is a massive factor for us. These Madrid rumours are a bit of a stitchup. His kids live there. Naturally the city has a pull for him. But any time he says something like that all of a sudden it's Tibo issues come get me plea to Real Madrid. If he did want to go back to Madrid we'd be smart to offer a swap deal with Oblak for Atletico. Keeps him away from Real and means w
