He's never been a force at Chelsea. He's a 5 goal 3 assist per season player. He's right on that right now. Actually, his output in assists is ahead of pace. HIs contribution relative to time on the pitch has always been a shocking at Chelsea. Literally, people are SHOCKED when you tell them he's averaged 5 goals and 3 assists per season at Chelsea (in the League). Even his fans wax poetic about the force he once was. His best season was 8 goals, in which he then slagged off the manager that put him in position to have the best season of his career. He's come up with 3 goals this year. Cardiff, Burnley, and Newcastle. I think the highest position of any of those teams when we played them as 16th. For a player who takes so many set pieces, spends so much time in and advanced position, he's just flat out not good enough to warrant the time he gets. And he never has been. 20M is about right for a squad player. Which is what he is. Unfortunately, he gets star treatment from the club and the media. I wish I could say he was Bang Average, but Bang Average for a Top 6 wing player would be a vast improvement for Chelsea.

I see what you're saying in that is drop in production coincided with Jose's dismissal, but there's nothing in his career to suggest it was ever going to be more than a nice game or two. The five goals in that season against Newcastle, Southampton and Burnley WAS that season. 15/16 that Jose was sacked, and we were battling relegation. Unfortunately, you're right. No one was paying attention so they were fooled into thinking Willian had some magical year and was player of the year. Nope... 5 goals... Against three teams, one of which was relegated and none of which was Top 6 opposition. See what I mean.. Everyone remembers something that never actually happened.he scores a worldie once a month and people assume his production matches his skill level. He didn't play really well in 2015/16. He hit a couple nice free kicks early in the season. Scored 2 in our first 6 league games, then 3 the entire rest of the season and was voted Player of the Year. It's a mirage...

Think I've posted on this pic before, taken approximately 5 minutes walk from my front door, and from reading the thread most of them have been correctly identified, it is John Sparrow in the leather coat, and has Ray Lewington been mentioned yet? F1905, it is Les Briley, came from my estate and lived about 100 yards from my school, went on to become a Millwall stalwart for many years, and I went out with his sister for a while. Maybank, and later on, Pates and Fillery were all Mitcham lads, but it was Eddie Macs side that I would often watch in the morning, SE Counties League, before heading off to the match in the afternoon.

We were absolutely honking in 15/16 whereas Willian probably stayed at his usual performance level and really done well around January time I think it was for a month or so then it was back to normal. It’s more a sign of how poor we were that year that his performances across the whole were POTY worthy. players POTY is also a popularity contest for the most part and as others have outlined, it was the season with his best output which still wasn’t terrific. I’ve said before he’d be a terrific squad player but it baffles me how he gets the amount of time he does because of “defensive discipline”. It’s no wonder we struggle with goals and clear cut chances when one of our wingers main attribute is running around a lot. I’d keep him if I thought it meant he’d be used as a backup but he won’t be and if it’s true we rejected £50m for him - it’s utter, utter madness.

hmmmmm steak... I think the fact that we can remember his good games individually speaks volumes as to how infrequent they are... Especially in the League.

He had 5 goals in the league for a team that finished 10th. (not the Title winning season in which he had his best season (8) as an impact sub for Conte). Those goals came against Newcastle (2), Southampton (2) and Bournemouth It's ironic that that's roughly the same output against the same level of competition that he'll have this year, and yet even his fans say "he may not be as good as he was." This is exactly what he's always been, and it's woefully short of what we need in a Front 3 player. I wish I was missing something, but this guy has fooled more people than Houdini into thinking he was ever more than a 5 goal a season squad player.

Is Essien on the Coaching Staff

Ballack was a top, top player. Better than he was ever given credit for on here. We missed him a lot in Carlo's second season. His ability to adapt to work with Frank was extraordinary but he stepped up on the rare occasion Frank was out. Still remember his performance when Frank was out against United after his Mum died. Superb.

    Welcome Emerson Palmieri!

Certain individuals have to make it a toxic argument, calling Alonso a sh*t player and whatnot. Why can't we just be happy that we've got two good fullbacks? I definitely want to see Palmieri play more, I don't think he was good against Fulham but he hasn't had the necessary game time to showcase his attributes just yet. All this "He's much better" "He's sh*t" is getting us nowhere.

    Jeremie Boga

Brilliant performance from Boga against Milan at the weekend, he's clearly enjoying his football. One clever curling shot hit the post in the first half and had Milan keeper beaten all ends up. Milan had 5 Academy players in their squad – a proper Club.

I would hope not. Hopefully he sees Real Madrid needs a larger rebuilding job than we do. The stupid thing is, some mugs will pay a godly amount of money for Bale when Real Madrid try to off him this summer.

I bet a lot of people would also be surprised to learn that Willian scored HALF of his League Goals playing for Conte... He must have loved Antonio with that type of production. (OK, I'll stop for a while now. ?)

    Welcome Emerson Palmieri!

Alonso is a brilliant wing-back but an average full back capable of a few brilliant games from that position. Emerson seems like he’d be much the same but it’s hard to pass judgment on a player who’s barely had a run of games.

    Welcome Emerson Palmieri!

I get your point, but are they “good fullbacks” though? Ever since the goals dried up for Alonso & the formation change, he has been exposed as an average fullback. I don’t think either one is good enough, ideally we move one in the summer and upgrade the position.

    Welcome Emerson Palmieri!

The ball he lost put us in bad shape, we won it back, then rudiger gave it away again, that led to the shot that Kepa made a nice save that lead to a corner, which lead to Emerson getting pushed out of his backside responsibility, leading to a wide open goal. We gave up one goal, and he was the #1 culprit. He did some things well, but what he did wrong was very wrong.

JT would have been playing in midfield then. Just looking at the Shelf there- right next to the pitch. The North Bank Arsenal was a big end which the roof covered maybe three quarters of. North and South Banks at West Ham, also decent covered ends. Even the old Hammersmith End at Fulham in theory was a better end than the Shed. I loved the various quirks of the Shed and cherish the memories of being there, but wish we could have really maximised our superb singing power by being closer to the park. Ps When I was a Sheddite- 78-82- we definitely had more singers than Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham.

On the contary, I think people are too easy on him because of how desperate they are to see his competition dropped. Even his abysmal games are getting passed off as good.

    Welcome Emerson Palmieri!

He had an okay game. Idk if anyone noticed it but Azpi even ran over to him once to complain or whatever. Sometimes he gets brushed off too easily like in the last minutes of yesterday game, conceded a dangerous flank to a Fullham player which should have been a throw in for us. But lets see more of him, he hardly got game time as of yet.

We are playing better yet still not clinical enough and liable to concede, the next league match against Wolves will give us a better idea of our true position. Of course we might get better as the season progresses following recent manager to squad discussions. Difficult to know as all outside of City and Liverpool are not consistent, even question marks over Liverpool now. Utd have been more consistent though Utd have some big-six matches before the end of the season which should also be interesting like the forthcoming fixture, Arsenal away. If you draw there and Chelsea win, it's all to play for.

    We've got a new Kepa

Responded in the best possible way to the cup final fiasco. Put in a MOTM performance yesterday making some great saves to deny Fulham. I think the club, Sarri and Kepa have all handled the controversy well and hopefully that quality performances draws a line under the whole thing.

CHO's been with the club longer than any senior player has..... He's more Chelsea than anyone in that dressing room right if we're being honest. That's part of the tragedy of looking at the complete mismanagement of him that will likely mean the first top quality person from our academy (who joined us at the age of 6 or 7) since Terry may very well become a key player for another top club in Europe.

I fully embrace the petty tribalism of football. All the while Dele Ali is showing Tom Daley a thing of two about diving for Spurs I'll dislike him (hate was maybe a bit too strong a word). True of any player, I don't like them because they're not playing for Chelsea... If the day comes they pull on a Royal Blue jersey, you can bet I'll quickly change my tune about them because you know what? That's the fun of football. And yeah, I struggle to get behind an England team exactly because it's made up of players from rival teams. I struggle to just flick a mental switch and go from being against them to being for them. Too many Spurs players in the current set up for my liking.... I don't expect it to make sense to everyone but then I think most of the way a lot of us emotionally approach football doesn't make sense... That's why it's escapism, it doesn't have to make sense.
