What I've learned from today's game. 1. Zouma belongs in Everton. Shocking performance. Hopefully Rudiger is close to being match fit, because this was a depressing display. Azpi was struggling too, continuing his so-so form from the last season. 2. Pedro is finished at this level. He's reached the point where all this running around isn't going to make up for too many bad decisions especially those that result in us giving up possession in dangerous areas. 3. Christensen can be decent, as long as he's paired up with a dominant defender, he's good at complementing others, not t6 points -

We played well, especially first half, but we were always vulnerable in transition. They got the ball and bang, they were swarming all over us. We had absolutely nothing shielding the defence. It was a problem the entire pre-season and hopefully this is a wake up call for Frank. Away from home, we were way too open. It was easy for them to attack us. Right from the off. Performances, well our CBs are a concern. Rudiger walks into this team but one of the other three has to step up. Kante obviously walks back in too, for one of Jorginho or Kova. I feel Frank made a mistake with Bark5 points -

We have been undone by the disgraceful decision to wave play on from the foul by MaGuire which led directly to the second goal. Up until then we were the better team. We have four quality players to get match fit and come back in. We have youngsters who will learn from this. We will be alright.5 points -

If he arrives half a step earlier the game is completely different. Hopefully it doesn't happen again but I think we'll be ok with him as long as he picks up those little things. Definitely an improvement on Higuain in terms of mobility and getting involved in play. I also thought he was a bit unlucky in his pressing today. If he keeps going he'll find joy soon enough.3 points -

The more you see that first one, the more incredulous I am that nothing was given ... he's practically rugby tackled ffs ... it's like he's being thrown out of a maul ... The second one .. even two of the United defenders are signalling that Zouma needs attention ... still not really sure why he went down in the first place ... trailing arm in the head from McTominay ? Disgraceful refereeing both on the pitch and in front of the VAR system ...3 points -

Sounds stupid but i'm actually happy with how we played. Dominated the game from the off and should've been 2 up before Utd's penalty. IMO we win that game if Zouma doesn't play. Going forward James replaces Azpi, Rudi replaces Zouma, RLC replaces Barkley and CHO replaces Mount. Kante starts from the get go in place of Kovacic. That's half of our starting 11 improved without any changes. Patience.2 points -
4-0 isn’t a fair reflection of the game. 2-0 would of been. The 3rd was the cliched your always vulnerable from a KO after a goal, 4th a wicked deflection. Saw enough today to see potential promise but not blinkered enough to see that the striker position is gonna be challenging- simply put the team currently lack experienced & efficient goal scoring options. Ross & MM didn’t really gel, MM didn’t look out of place though. Rudiger is going to improve the back 4 once he’s up & running. Other key players returning from sick list will only improve the performances in time More2 points

I've been saying for a long time that VAR will make no difference when it comes to decisions going our way. It's still the same bias refs making the decisions. The foul on Abraham is about as clear as it gets to a foul.2 points -

Some positives today, I like the type of football we are trying to play. Big negative for me is the decline of Azpi, has looked poor for a while. Away to manure is a difficult game to start the season and everything was going there way.2 points -

The theory of it is excellent, but the main problem with VAR is that the person looking at the obvious on the screen is clearly more inept or even more biased than the one on the pitch who missed it the first time ... How they can announce to the crowd a VAR attempt to upgrade a Tammy yellow card to a red, but miss a clear and obvious foul before their 2nd goal just makes you wonder who got paid today and how much ...2 points -

Well, the performance has been fine on the whole. We’ve created some good chances and don’t deserve to be behind. Mount doesn’t look out of place and actually has been better than Pedro and Barkley. It just takes one player to create a sh*t-show though. If we had Rüdiger, CHO and Kante playing we’d be whipping them.2 points -

Half Time Thoughts: Creating some decent changes, unlucky to hit the post twice. Could well be one of those days where we just can't score. However, the pre-season worries about the lack of cover in front of the defence, the susceptibility to counter attacks and the calamity that is Zouma, all proving to be true so far. Also, it appears this new server can't handle matchdays.2 points -

A lot to be positive about, even though we are losing. The pace of our game is 10x better than it was last season, Mount is playing very well, the midfield overall looks really good. The only reason we are behind is because of Zouma, it sounds harsh to single out one player, but we can't ignore it, his poor tackle cost us and he looks dodgy almost every time he touches the ball.2 points -

DidierDrogbalala and one other reacted to PloKoon13 for a topic
Despite the fact that every other season since Mourinho left the first time has been labelled as a 'transition season', this is the first one which actually feels like that. I.E. Our primary objective for the season is to leave ourselves in the best position to challenge next season rather than target any specific trophies this time around. So a good season would be: - A relatively settled first XI and squad, ideally with a few of our youngsters in the mix. - A clear idea of where we need to strengthen next summer, targets identified and hopefully snapped up quickly and efficien2 points -
Bottom line is that we largely played well but got humped harder than I did in a dubious dream I had the details of which I really shouldn't go into! I cant be arsed dissecting the entire game but a few points are... Zouma had a mare and confirmed that he is comfortably third choice once Rudiger is back. Arguably 4th choice if you consider that we also have the option of Azpilicueta in the centre. Mount clearly looks like a player who will have no problem stepping up to be a regular in the Premier league. Pedro still loves to run around a lot but that eyes wide shut disease when he pas1 point

On another day we could of come away with 3 points, we were a little unlucky to go behind as it obviously is demoralising but our defence is still questionable. Can only hope we're better with Rudiger at the back, and that we have better luck going forward. Not looking forward to playing Liverpool on Wednesday though.1 point -

I thought Pedro was okay too, he did give a lot away cheaply, but he wasn't the only one. He's pressing well, playing us out of trouble at times and getting into attacking areas.1 point -
United have been in the market and bought in 145 mill of defenders who have improved their backline immensely just from 45 mins it appears. Its been an even match, Pedro not doing anything new he can be brilliant in front of goal and useless at keeping the ball or passing accurately sometimes, bear in mind we've had no reinforcements, have Tammy & Mason starting with at least 2 of our nailed on starters out injured. I'm pleased so far with what I've seen in that 45 considering the woodwork has been struck by Tammy & Emerson.1 point

Unhappy at score very pleased with what I’ve seen, not near our strongest squad, but totally dominated. We look better without Hazard, he is a big loss but the fact everything went through him and his stop start style left us so toothless at times. This is more direct, better football, kova has been brilliant, as has Jorginho, his defending has been good as well, Barkley string and direct but a few too many mistakes. Apart from Happy and giving away gifts the defending hasn’t looked too bad as a whole AC and Emerson looking good, midfield coming back and helping. This si1 point -

I’ve seen enough in this half to feel pretty positive moving forward. I still don’t think Zouma is good enough for Chelsea. Pedro has been poor as well, giving the ball away far too easily. Barkley has shown flashes but nothing compared to pre season, I’m not sure he’s comfortable out wide. The rest of the team I think have done really well and we’re really unlucky not to be winning this.1 point -

I think the circumstances of his departure will tarnish his legacy. I'm always appreciative of his contribution to the club, particularly his role in the 2012 Champions League Final and his performances over the 2016/2017 season but his decision to go to Arsenal leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. However, I'm fully supportive of Frank's decision to move him on especially if he feared he would be a disruptive influence in the dressing room. I trust Frank has the club's best interests at heart here. Short term, I think we will feel the effects of his departure considering the transfer1 point

I'm guessing that this will be a chaotic score draw in which both sides will look horribly disorganised, wander through each other's defences with impunity, and the pundits' postscript will be something along the lines of "2-2 draw here at Old Trafford... Arsenal and Tottenham won't be too worried about what they've seen here this evening."1 point -

Ask any Everton fan and they'd tell you how good he was for them last season. They unanimously wanted to sign him from us permanently, and they're the fans who have been watching him week-in week-out. I don't agree with writing a player off before they've even had a consistent run of games in the first team - how unfair and negative is that? He may never improve, but he deserves a chance. Same can be said for Tammy Abraham too - some on here are already writing him off before he's even started a single game for us!!1 point -
too bad - he had more bad games vs us than good matches. My favorite Kosielny moment with the gooners1 point
