    Jorginho is a Blue

I found it annoying at first but I'm kind of catching the bug myself, I mean obviously I know he's not perfect infact I'm not even against replacing him if we find a suitable player (no not Declan Rice) but the sheer amount of excuses being rolled out to play him down is getting ridiculous. He's the only regular on both the Chelsea and Italy sides on their (convincing) runs to European finals but it's being portrayed as just a coincidence/his teammates are carrying him. I don't even disagree with some of the assessments of his weaknesses but the mental gymnastics to downplay anything good he does (one of which playing a key role in getting us the second biggest trophy in football, maybe first given the decline of international football) doesn't sit great with me. It's getting to the "Mount's a teachers pet" and "Sarri's playing Hudson Odoi under duress" levels.

    Jorginho is a Blue

In truth Gol, great penalty aside at the end, he had a pretty ineffective match last. He failed all game to get any sort of defensive grip on either Olmo or Pedri, and Busquets completely out-shone him with an all-round "holding" midfielder display of superb quality. Busquets made Spain tick, (and went very close to scoring), Jorginho did not do anywhere near the same job for Italy. What got Italy through last night was Bonucci, Chiellini and Donnarumma. The best centre-backs and keeper in the competition. I think they will also get them past whoever Italy meet in the final.

    Jorginho is a Blue

Cringey is Jorginho not having a very good game and having to read things like "Class of his own tonight. Without meaning to offend people... If you cannot see how gifted he is as a player then for me you simply don't understand football." "Jorginho had 8 ball recoveries and 7 interceptions... " etc Most critics came here to mention how well he took his penalty and then the Jorginho lovers came here to render homage to the greatest of them all. If someone is showing any balance in here, it's the critics, who indicated that he was ineffective (as he was) but took his penalty superbly. I think that's more balanced view of his game last night than saying that he was a class above all in last night's match.

And this is the absolute delusion that's making Gol (and you) argue continuously against a nonexistent oppostion. "Jorginho scored a fantastic penalty under pressure but did not have greatest game yesterday" Gol - "Jorginho is the greatest, how can you play him down, he made 8 interceptions, blah, blah" "Jorginho is an excellent player but struggles against deep lying defenses" Gol - "Jorginho is the greatest, how can you play him down, he is in 2 finals, blah, blah" "Nothing" Gol - "Jorginho is the greatest, you all are haters, I was right, blah, blah" Most on the forum actually like Jorginho but understand his strengths and limitations and realize that we might need a midfield of a different profile if we want to win the league. If you go on like this, you'll soon make people actually hate a very likeable character and footballer. To really know how a player can be downplayed, check the Mikel threads 😉

We are making progress here Argo. I'm in agreement to....... a degree. But again those variables need to be considered. Starting with, do either Bonucci and Chiellini have the foot speed to match Silva in his Milan days or Carvalho in his days in our back line? If the Italian centre-halves ventured out of position into Jorginho's territory, and they were turned, or mis-timed the challenge, would it be likely they would have the pace and speed to recover positioning and get a second bite? Would Jorginho be able to cover them out of position? Hhmm. In which case would it be recommended that they "follow" (Sindre's word), a specific opponent or the ball as a pre-instructed tactic? For me the answer is absolutely not.

I think he would either get a restraining court order put on Gol 15 or, he might hire a hitman (sorry hit person), to shoot me. Depends who he was more worried about.

I may be biased here but I didn't see Jorginho do much, or indeed Italy's midfield, for most part of the game. Spain controlled them quite well and Jorginho was quite ineffective and did not manage to grab the control of the midfield. Defensively he may have had X interceptions or Y ball recoveries, but you'd want him to control the match and get the team ticking being a "world class" deep lying playmaker. Even more, if you look at the offensive stats he was pretty inefficient and in passing statistics, Chiellini is much better than Jorginho in long ball accuracy, pass accuracy etc He took his penalty as cool as he always does, he has very good technique and rarely misses.

Indeed - Italy's performance reminded me of some of the shakier times under Lampard. If you end up ceding the majority of possession (whether by design or not) and need to get the ball forwards quickly then it's basically pointless having Jorginho on the pitch. Watching Spain effortlessly slice through Italy's midfield over and over again (particularly in the first half) and attacking the huge space in front of Italy's back four was a very, very familiar sight.* But don't let that get in the way of a good narrative! *Familiar also was Emerson being generally useless on the left... honestly, what a downgrade from Spinazzola.

  19. Congratulations England on a deserved victory. Really proud of Denmark, with all they've been through the performances have been truly amazing. And they are just getting started. Too bad the decisive goal came from a Sterling dive and poor refereeing, but with all the chances England created, it was deserved. Southgate has really done well, though I don't get why England got so defensive against 10 man in 2nd half OT. Good luck on Sunday.

    Euro 2020 (played in 2021)

Good player but I despise the twat. His diving is cheating and he gets away with it week in and week out. Also hate his backing in dangerous challenges. Having seen any of those in this tournament, perhaps he knows the foreign refs will call him out on it.

  32. I suppose from a managers point of view if you can have one player taking up the space of two on the bench it’s a good thing. I always try to have fullbacks who can play both sides on football manager for this reason alone @Valerie I’ve cracked the ice cream out already!

Its posts like this that justify what I said and make you look idiotic. I said he didnt have his best game, because I saw him get bypassed quite a few times. Nowhere did i say he was bad. Secondly I agree he maybe does get a bit too much stick especially in the past, and as I said above, the irony is you are the one thats fueling that because youre in denial about just how good he is. Thirdly grow up, seriously, on all my recent posts im trying to give him credit. You can try and insult all of us fans who have an honest opinion all you want, just because we arent Tuchel or Mancini or are nobodies as you put it, but youre just making yourself look like an moron. Anyway as i said im leaving you to it, i would have more joy talking to a brick wall.

I completely agree with most of this. After winning the Champions League theres no way any of our players should be getting any stick and as Ive said before on this thread, imagine Jorginho winning the Champions League and coming on here to see a lot of criticism. I wouldnt get rid of Jorgi, hes more than capable of being a very good squad player. However, if theres anyone out of the starting 11 that we could and should improve on, it is him. When it goes bad in games for him, it goes very bad. There have been times when teams completely bypass him like he isnt there. It couldnt hurt to look at a top class sitting midfielder, not to kick Jorgi out, but to provide competition and be an upgrade on an already decent player.

I don't get all the bickering but to each their own. Sometimes I think he's more comfortably with the "European" footy style compared to the physical "bullying" in the EPL. Havertz said that (regarding his own perfomances) that there were times he'd be happy that there was a CL game coming up as those were easier for him to play.

  39. Thank you! Nobody is saying that he's perfect, but he's without a doubt a good player and it hurts to see that so many are never going to give him the props he deserves. Literally broke a record for interception/ball recoveries last night and people just can't be happy for him, they simply can't help but to push any kind of a negative rhetoric towards him, I think Declan Rice has less number of interceptions in 5 games in this Euro than what Jorginho had in the last game, for me the guy from Leeds Philips is having a better tournament than Rice.

  40. All the indications are that Christensen is happy at Chelsea. “I’m in this for the long run and I always have been,” he said in April. “I feel like this is my second home. Denmark will always be my home, but Chelsea will always be my place.” Source of quote: https://theathletic.com/2685918/2021/07/03/christensen-finally-blossoming-into-the-elite-modern-defender-chelseas-academy-staff-believed-he-could-be/ I would be very surprised if we didn't keep hold of Christensen. He's surely nailed on to get plenty of starts at either RCB or playing central of the 3 given that Dave and Silva are unlikely to play all of our games.

  41. Yeah I like Griezmann but he is honestly not what we need. We have more than enough wide players/attacking midfielders plus werner can play wide which just adds an extra player in that department.

We came to the conclusion that @Gol15 is Jorginho long ago so not only does he read it, he contributes! I used to easily be put in to a downward spiral mentally - hence the constant dicking about and not taking life too seriously.

  49. It's hard to not be frustrated by the entire situation, to be honest. I keep reiterating this but the club is in the biggest of crossroads. We really are either on the cusp of returning to the top table in England or becoming a 'cup' team. Being realistic, we're European champions because each and every player gave a solid 9/10 for the entire campaign; in the league, we were utterly bang average and at times embarrassing; the primary issue being the countless, countless missed chances. As a fan, you have to stay humble and not expect your club to sign the latest, greatest talents every year. This year is an exception though; they have the platform to move ahead of the game. This constant silence worries me, there is literally nothing coming out of the club, there would have to have been some inkling of action/bids by now if it was to happen surely? For me, as said previously, this game is over completely. Haaland will be back in pre-season training imminently and that really will be that. We're being bloody linked to Calvert-Lewin and Ings as well; that's the depressing thing. I just have a gut-feeling we will bottle this window and the repercussions of it will be we lose the best manager we've had since the OG Jose campaign. I'm not being funny, back the f**king manager and sign a f**king goalscorer who can actually hit barn doors from 5 yards.
