    Mateo Kovačić

Someone is still digging, I see. Gol15, do you have any idea what it takes for footballers from small countries like Croatia or Uruguay to make it the top of European football? So many more hurdles to overcome, decisions to make (which country, which offer, which path...?) vs players in more developed countries with strong leagues, a strong academy on their doorstep... It’s a fight. It requires strength of character and is character-building, which may explain in part why the teams of these smaller countries punch above their weight so much at world cups etc. To take that all for granted and describe Kovacic as a ‘reject’ or ‘average’ for not breaking into the Real midfield aged 22-23 is one of the more ridiculous comments I’ve read from you Gol15 in a v competitive field. Who was he supposed to replace exactly : Modric - one of the best midfielders of all time!? Kovacic was always a great prospect, or else he never would have made it to Inter and a starter there at 19, as Slojo says. And Real wouldn’t have bought him in the first place. That proved to be a poor career choice by Kovacic, and one incidentally made by several players from former Yugoslavia over the years - aiming too high too early on in their career. Jovic has likely just made the same mistake. I listened recently to an interview with the legendary Serbian (Yugoslav back in his playing days) midfielder Vladimir Jugovic (some similarities to Kova by the way) reflecting on his career. He left Red Star Belgrade (a phenomenal side that won the European cup (CL equivalent) in 91) and opted for Sampdoria in 92-93 rather than one of the giants. He said his time at Samp was the most enjoyable of his career and the most important for his development. why: because of the playing time. Said it would have been a mistake to move to a Juve (where he went on to become one of the greats of the 90s) or Milan too early, as he would have sat on the bench (3 foreigner limit back then made it even harder) and would never have got as good. My hope/vision for Kova is that his move to Chelsea proves to be transformative, the one that corrected that earlier mistake, rescued his career and propelled him to the greatness he may be destined for... and that Real Madrid will regret it forever. Yeah and ask Real Madrid fans if they’re glad they ‘rejected’ Kovacic. Ask Modric if he thinks he’s ‘average’. Ask Marcelo, Klopp, Guardiola.... Yo don’t have to share my hopes/vision, which may be far-fetched. You don’t have to rate him. That’s your prerogative. But as a fan of the club, why not show him a bit of respect and gratitude, if nothing else? After all, he’s giving Chelsea everything he’s got. Finally, to the powers that be: if I ever write a longer post than this, please kick me out.

But passes and transitions into the final third does and Kovacic is one of the best in the league at it. That's end product enough for a player in Kovacics role. Not everyone needs to score or directly assist. Someone needs to be responsible for bringing the ball up to our attackers and Kova is that man. Similar to what Luka Modric has done for Real Madrid for the last several years really. He scored one goal and had six assists the season he won the Ballon D'or. And no one complained about his end product to put it that way.

So, I have way too much free time on my hands right now and decided to create this account for the sole purpose of addressing a few things about the Havertz rumour from a different perspective that migh be of interest. Mainly because I think a lot of stuff going around at social media is complete nonsense. I am a Bayer Leverkusen supporter since 17 years and have watched every game Kai played in. I can say for sure that he is certainly the best talent I have ever seen at our club. He´s a unique player with a very unique skillset. Although he scores a lot, his scoring record overshadows his real strenghts a bit in the media and people who never watched him play might judge him purely on that. Kai is an extremely intelligent player with a lot of calmness on the ball. When he gets the ball in a holding position you can be quite sure that he won´t lose it, his first touch is great and he has great vision for through balls and switching the play. When he´s playing as a number 8 or 10 he has a very good timing for runs into the box, thats how he scored most of his goals here (apart from some penalties as well). The second half of the 18/19 season he played as numer 8 next to Julian Brandt who left us for Dortmund last summer. The two of them were brilliant together, creating a lot of chances by receiving the ball in the spaces between midfield and defense of the opponent. This season, our main striker got injured for a few months and Kai played as a sole striker, probably not his best position but he scored from there too, his skillset really qualifies him for any position in the final third apart from wide positions because he lacks pace for that. So far about the player himself, now on to a few other things: Christian Falk is NOT a reliable source, the accuracy of his reports is quite poor and pretty much laughed at in Germany. Lately he confirmed that Thiago will definetly sign a new contract at Bayern, which obviously wont happen now. His latest reports are also wrong: Havertz doesn´t need to ask for a permission to leave. It was clearly communicated last year already that he can leave this summer if a club meets our expectations in terms of the transfer fee. Right now, the whole team is on vacation and Havertz will talk with our bosses in two weeks when he returns to prepare for the Europa League. There simply are no talks right now. Today I have seen a lot of english media picking up on this report and it´s just completely false. Havertz hasn´t said anything so far, not to the media and not even to our bosses. So you can basically ignore all the reports that are citing Falk or Sport Bild in general. They reported several times that Havertz is definetely going to Bayern for sure and that only changed after Bayerns boss said last week that they won´t be able to fund the transfer this summer financially. Rudi Völler and our board said numerous times that we won´t let Havertz go for under 100 million € (or 90m pounds). I believe that the reports are true that Chelsea is preparing a bid, let´s see how far they will go with it. But thats the price you need to expect and I doubt our board will engage in negotiations that would lower that price. Sorry for the rusty english.

We're signing a highly rated LB, who is only 23 and will improve, who improves our first 11, who fits into our style of play, who was also the managers first choice and we've managed to knock 20-30 million of the asking price The amount of negativity in this thread is embarrassing

I am often baffled how some of the refs in this country get their jobs. How can a ref ever be trusted to take charge of a high profile game when so many question marks hang over him? This is the same ref that missed a clear handball by Sanchez in the final the last time we went up against Arsenal, a handball that was basically an assist for Arsenal's first goal in that game. The same ref that gave Alonso a yellow card after being hit by a flying kung fu kick by Hugo Lloris. You don't have to be a qualified ref to get these decisions right, but he is qualified (somehow) and he got both of them wrong. What makes it worse is that the players and coaches aren't even allowed to comment on these things without getting into trouble. Why is there so much protection for them? They even have VAR and they can't even get that sh*t right. The standard of officiating in English football stinks, and it has done for years without any sign that things will improve. No other sport seems to have as much of a problem with it as football has. Anthony Taylor should never be officiating another high profile game again, but he will be back on the first day of the season in charge of a Premier League game.....how is that right? The guy can give out a second yellow card for foul that wasn't a foul and completely ruin the biggest game of football in England, and he can carry on like normal in the next round of fixures. It's complete bullsh*t.

TBH I was annoyed when Sarri left, even if it was inevitable eventually. I dislike the managerial merry-go-round we have going on at the club, and when Frank signed, I feared it was too early for him, and he would fall victim the merry-go-round (that is always a danger at Chelsea, though). I did not want to see a club legend fail. Now I feel happier about our 4th spot than last season about third, even proud (too Arsenal?). The circumstances for the team are so much different, and despite some hopeless matches that made me tear my hair out, there were other matches which made me jump around with joy. Remember how Frank celebrated at Spurs, that was I think how we all felt. Sarri delivered the Europa Cup, which felt even better for having soundly beaten Arsenal. Pleasepleaseplease, do it again for the FA Cup, Chelsea!

Posts like this disgust me. How can you, as a Chelsea fan, ever say Frank Lampard is the clubs biggest problem after all of the great memories he has given us and continues to give us? I would honestly be shocked if you have supported the club for more than a few months at this point.

f**k me but you are a miserable sod. The scousers played 5 or 6 of their regular first team players and brought on Salah, Milner and Firmino. It was nowhere near "a 2nd choice Liverpool side". I really wish people would stop trying to belittle the team all the time, and just accept that we actually played well and beat the run-away league leaders and current European champions. And I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing this side against anyone, Bayern or Brentford, because, for the first time in a long while, we have a whole load of exciting prospects doing the job on the pitch. Pity some of our internet fans aren't doing the same and getting behind these lads.

Most job contracts come with a 6-month probation period where the potential of candidates is assessed and their achievements and mistakes are measured. Following that review the contract is made permanent, the probation period is extended or ties are cut. I will attempt to assess Frank's first 6 months. I should at this point declare my hand. The three things that have given me the most pleasure in my life are: 1. Frank Lampard 2. Barbara Windsor ringing the church bells in Carry on Dick 3. The birth of my daughter. It is pretty close between Barbara and my daughter but Frank is way ahead. So do I think he should be above criticism? Yes I do. He has shipped some criticism on here, most of it with the caveat that he should not be above criticism. Wrong. His achievements: We are fourth in the league and still in the Champions League and FA Cup, for f**k's sake. He has integrated a number of academy players into the squad. He has shown flexibility and courage in his selections. He has shown a willingness to experiment with formations, tactics and personnel. He has made us entertaining to watch in what is after all an entertainment business. He has represented the club with intelligence, good grace and class. His mistakes: With the benefit of hindsight he has made some poor selections and substitutions. He can't decide on the best combination of his bang average collection of centre halves. He can't get the best out of Kante with Jorginho in the team. Overall I'm happy to offer Frank the Chelsea job for life.

22nd Dec Zayn: Super Frank totally schooled him and Mourinho couldn‘t do fxxk against it, he just watched on and the break didn‘t change it. Son is a clear red and the Spurs fans again showed why they are the low-life scum everybody knows. Loving the Jose meltdown and so happy about Frank‘s calm reaction. Mou just can‘t take it that he got fxxked by Lampard. So happy to have Lampard at the helm and no toxic and sore loser. Long may it last. Lampard has shown what he is capable of. How can anybody dislike this lad? 29th Dec Zayn: Sack Lampard and get Simeone in Absolute whopper

So my dad gets to come back to the Bridge after that sh*t show on Saturday. We had a blast. We sat in the... wait for it.... The Shed End tonight... Was good talking football all week with everyone, and everyone we met was incredibly friendly. Brilliant time... going home tomorrow.

Surprised at people being upset and singling out players. I thought we'd all agreed this team was a work in progress. This was our typical performance against a top side this season, with all the good and bad things. City, for all their recent problems, is nevertheless a top side probably still with the best attack in the league. Still, for the first time in a long time since Conte's depressing parked bus and Sarri's 6-0 humilation we actually went to Etihad and looked good. The team may have been nervous at the back, but we were breaking forward time and again, and with a better final pass and more clinical finishing could have got something out of the game. This type of losses are part of the learning curve and in a long run are better than some wins that paint over our shortcomings. Our back four and Kepa were probably our Achilles heel tonight. Emerson had a mare on the left, Tomori and Zoma had trouble starting attack from the back and Kepa looked short of confidence. Our defense is the area I'd spent the bulk of our transfer budget on, when we actually get around to it. Doesn't mean we need to replace everybody, of course, but we need to improve by a large margin.

Don't want to get too carried away but equally am very excited and positive about how things are going and the gradual improvement. What I am really amazed about is how there is very little to question. The starting line-ups he is selecting are pretty much what I would be going for and the subs are often bang on the nail. It's as if Lamps & Jody ARE Chelsea supporters just like us and see what we see. How many times have we had coaches in the past where we are all left scratching our heads when certain players are continuously selected and then the subs are so predictable and uninspiring. No doubt there will still be blips along the way but I love how they are learning from mistakes and so quickly. Supporters are looking forward to the next match every time and it has been a while since that was the case.

I thought the much lambasted Azpilicueta and Alonso were absolutely outstanding tonight.

    Callum Hudson-Odoi

It reveals he was overjoyed to score after a long time of being out of the game with a nasty injury, get a grip.

Still, I'm quite proud of our team. Despite everything, especially the increasing number of walking wounded, the players pulled themselves together, and did not give in to doom and gloom, contrary to a few posters here. We always knew we are a work in progress, and it shows. Valuable experience to build on. Next week our first home league win!
