Twitter and American sports culture have killed football discourse. Twitter provides a far-reaching forum for the obssessive, dopamine-hit style of US sports journalism where speculations and 'hot-takes' are treated as discourse. Opinion and speculation are elevated to unquestionable truth.
In the US, sporting salaries are generally required to be public information or can be easily worked out because of the salary cap. English clubs are private companies and do not disclose wage figures at all, other than total wage or transfer spends in their published public accounts. Sportrac, or the The Swiss Ramble, or whoever, have no more insider knowledge on these things than most people on this forum and their opinions are more or less educated guesses.

This forum used to be a relatively safe bastion from such things but it sure doesn't seem like that anymore.

They have a lot of problem players to deal with to get rid of, it does not just end with Lukaku.
Near the end of the contracts: Pulisic, Kante, Jorginho, Batman, Alonso, Emerson.
Supposedly wants to leave: Dave and Ziyech
Highly paid and generally useless: Werner, Baka and Sarr.
Too highly paid for what they offer: Kepa and CHO.
Probably missed some too but that is quite a list already.

Todd Boehly & Thomas Tuchel decided that sorting out the Romelu Lukaku situation early in the window was the priority over incoming transfer business [@Matt_Law_DT].

Only a matter of time before Boehly & Tuchel can start working on incomings! ⏳

I’m old and not cool so I have absolutely no idea what that means. But I do know I’d much rather Kerr play for our mens first 11 than have a crappy City reject come to us to retire whilst our new investment banker owners somehow think he’ll do to convince the supporters that the club is still interested in being successful on the field. Do City still have Fabian Delph in a cupboard somewhere? I’m sure they’d take 30 million for him if we offered.

This our chance to reinvent the wheel here and save Todd and the hedge fund some dollars.  Forget a policy of youth, pursue a policy of old.
Let's go out and bring back some of our all-time greats. Drogba (still better than Werner and Lukaku), Zola (still better than Messi), Terry (better than Rudiger and Christensen put together), Nevin (still better than CHO and Pulisic), Mikel (still faster than Jorginho) etc.
OK they might need an intense summer boot camp but class is always permanent.

This goes against all reports that Boehly wants to build a club around Tuchel's vision.

Thankyou Roman. The greatest football club owner there is ever likely to be. He may be Russian, but he has Blue blood and is one of us.  Thankyou for everything 💙

This is precisely how I feel. I'm really glad I have read your post as my own would have been very close to plagiarism. I really did think that there might be a chance that the Government might eventually hold their hands up and say that they could not continue with the Sanctions, due to a lack of concrete proof regarding wrong doing on the part of Roman. I know and accept that the source of his wealth is cloaked in darkness, but his use of it and now his willingness to give many Billions to Ukrainian Charities must count for something towards his exoneration.
So, Roman, if by some faint chance you are reading this somewhere at sometime, I would like to say my personal thanks. You helped me realise my dream ! I have been a Chelsea fan for 59 years, but truly did not ever think I would see them win the League in my lifetime. To have won it 5 times, together with 5 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, 2 Charity Shields, 2 Champions Leagues, 2 Europa Leagues, One UEFA Super Cup and ultimately the World Club Cup in your tenure means that I will die a very happy man. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for these wonderful 20 years and I pray that one day, you will be able to come back to Chelsea as our friend and Guest, having had all sanctions dropped and a complete pardon afforded to you by The EU and UK Governments. You are and always will be my Hero 💙

Yet arsenal have spent more than us in the last 5 years without any CL football and are spending another 100m this summer. Makes no sense

Our majority owners are a hedge fund, I believe the primary goal of our ownership will be to make money.

Boehly's constant references to the Liverpool doctrine and how their strategy for income/expenditure (i.e. transfers) will be the blueprint he bases Chelsea's on is extremely worrying. After all, FSG's approach has essentially been to invest zero of their personal wealth in to the club and luck out by hiring a generational-level manager, who does for them what Alex Ferguson did for the Glazers. I should reference that they did of course hire Dalglish/Rodgers before Klopp, almost missing out on Klopp due to their prolonged loyalty to Rodgers. For Boehly to repeatedly portray FSG as some kind of Moneyball-mastering role models is either extremely naive or extremely disingenuous of him.
To demonstrate, FSG took over Liverpool in 2010, with their biggest signings for each season to 2016 listed below:
2010/2011 - Andy Carroll - £37m 2011/2012 - Stuart Downing - £21m 2012/2013 - Joe Allen - £17m 2013/2014 - Mamadou Sakho - £17m 2014/2015 - Adam Lallana - £28m 2015/2016 - Cristian Benteke - £42m The 2015-2016 season was when Klopp joined, which is when the glorification of FSG happened to begin. I hope against hope that this isn't the route Boehly intends to take Chelsea down.

Would people be happier had we signed this windows version of Baka, Drinkwater and Batman, just to show we can spend under these owners?

Is Kounde in process. From what I see any player that we were linked with has now gone cold. Kounde wants Barca, Dembele staying. Anybody else the press linked us never even got to talking stage.
I'm certain this guy wants the wage bill down so they are all on similar money. Therefore we won't be doing anything until peoplemove on and let's be honest who the hell would be interested in Malang Sarr on 120k pw. In fact who would be interested on 120k p/y

Im sure some announcements will be made soon but we also need to accept the fact that there are more than just transfers going on at the club. The whole board/people working upstairs is being overhauled as well as other business activities such as sponsors. We can't expect to have such a quick transfer window like our rivals who already have their club set up. If they UK government didnt f**k us over all of that could have been done during the season but now the club has a lot on their hands with transfers. contracts and other stuff behind the scenes.

It literally buggered up our finances for about 3 decades, directly led to two relegations in 75 and 79, nearly saw us go out of existence, and led to the Mears family selling the freehold to the Bridge which meant the threat of eviction hung over us until Bates managed to buy it back after years of legal battles, the Save the Bridge campaign etc.

This is the first post on this thread got a little bit more of the game here. Our support was magnificent as always and they had a good team then Newcastle, Keegan, McDermott, Beardsley, Waddle yet we slaughtered them at the Bridge. That game was the highlight of 83-84 great atmosphere I can even remember I was wearing a white Tachinni tracksuit top and of course Pat Nevin's run. It was a pity there were no cameras especially as we had a habit of thrashing them 4-0 and 6-0 in previous seasons.
