  1. While i agree that deeper midfield is a priority above any other position i'm not really conviced by the 3 names you listed to play the more attacking CM role. Fabregas is great when we have the ball but i've got some serious questions when it comes to how well he can defend and press. RLC is a bit overhyped imo and is still quite raw as a player. Barkley has played very little football over the last year. I honestly have no idea what to expect from him. Tbh wouldn't suprise me if we went with Fabregas and didn't buy anyone for that role.
  2. I don't think he's been that poor. Only game he was poor was the Leicester game. Other games he always offered something to the team. He created opening, chances. I do think he's been left a lot more isolated this season then the seasons before. The shift from a 3-4-3 to a 3-5-2 while at first it seemed like it worked, the Atletico games come to mind, but we soon saw teams adapting to it and realizing that it made our attack extremely narrow and all the focus was on Hazard and Morata. So teams just defended extremely narrow and pretty much crowded Hazard anytime he tried to get on the ball. Also it would help if he wasn't being forced to play as the striker. LThe 0-3 against Bournemouth was the 7th time he was playing that position. It just isn't his position, it leaves him too isolated, difficult too reach and we simply need him to move the ball forward from midfield into the opponents final third. You want Hazard to get on the ball as much as possible but these last months we've been doing the opposite.
  3. He had a big part to play but calling him the biggest reason is quite an exaggeration imo.
  4. In both our title winning seasons Costa went missing in the second part of the season.
  5. I think it would be an improvement IF Barkley is able to get back to the level he was before his injury. It could work.
  6. But that's the thing though neither Fabregas, Bakayoko or Drinkwater have been particularly effective in the final third. Bakayoko has 2 goals, Drinkwater and Fabregas each have 1. The extra man offers them more freedom but they haven't made use of it at all. Against teams that sit deep they've struggled to make an impact while against top teams it seems like they've been told to pick their moments and be very cautious. Fabregas is the only player that has the quality but he simply lacks the legs to effectively play the position for me. Drinkwater and Bakayoko have the legs but lack the quality.
  7. While i understand the reasoning you're using i think it's important to keep in mind that due to the switch from a front 3 to a front 2 the opposition has 1 less player to worry about and Hazard has 1 less player for support when going forward. In the 3-5-2 Hazard and Morata only really have eachother for support.
  8. Hazard has always been more of a creator then a finisher. 6 goals in 1195 minutes this season. Last season he had 16 in 2985 minutes. Slightly behind but not by much. Morata imo is getting too much stick. He has 10 goals halfway through the season. Costa had 20 at the end of last season. Morata is right on course to equal Costa's tally. Our lack of goals has more to do with the switch from a front 3 to a front 2 in favour of an extra midfielder and more defensive solidity.
  9. What an utter load of crap. He's one of the most elite dribblers in the world. Last season he had an 80 % succesfull take on rate. And like Scott said when you take into account that he's mostly played as a winger/attacking mid not a striker and the pragmatic way we play, his goalscoring record is good.
  10. Since his debut Hazard has been fouled 476 times in 184 games. Most fouled player in the PL. You know how many the second most has ? 274.
  11. 1 Euhm... about a week ago where he scored the winning goal against Bournemouth and created 7 chances (the most chances a player has created this season in the PL btw) 2 nope
  12. It's not about shifting blame. It's just that when you start comparing our squad to other top teams you notice that those teams have several game changers. Here we have 1, Hazard. Also if you look at City, Madrid, PSG, they all have several players that handle the build up and creative side of things. Here we only have Fabregas, Hazard. Also when you look at the top teams there's a genuine abillity across the team to hold the ball and pass it around. Neymar, Ronaldo, Messi all three of them could stand around doing absolutely nothing and their teams would still be pinging the ball around effortlessly It's actually pretty weird why "scottish_mike" is complaining about Hazard not tearing the Roma defence when we were struggling to string along 3 passes. Instead of wondering why Hazard doesn't save our ass on a consistent base we should be wondering why we need Hazard to save us all the f**king time.
  13. Messi fair enough although as insanely good as he is he also has poor games. Ronaldo is well past his best and nowadays is just a goal poacher relying on the top quality players he's surrounded with at Madrid to get him chances. Bale and consistency . Really ? He's been injured half the time and he's been poor for the majority of the last 2 seasons and look this season injured again. Neymar is a massively wasteful player. The amount of times he loses the ball is pretty crazy. He needs several good opportunities. Eden unfortunately doesn't have that luxury here.
  14. Any apology would sound hollow. You've made your bed Costa, now lie in it. Let him rot.
  15. Him and Bakayoko apparently played in a friendly today. 8-0 victory. Hazard scored, Musonda twice. Maybe already on the bench on sunday ?
  16. I think it is easier to play in 1 of the 2 topteams of La Liga then in 1 of the top teams from the PL. The physicality in the PL is a big part of that. Smaller teams profit from that as referees will blow their whistle a lot quicker in La Liga then the PL. There's also a bigger difference between the top teams and the smaller teams in La Liga and the PL. That has a lot to do with the tv money not being divided equally on La Liga. There's also more of an emphasis on playing out from the back and playing possession football in La Liga. Even smaller teams. That leads to more space and openings. So to summarise in La Liga, when you play for Real or Barca, you're playing with better players against worse opposition with more space and more protection from the ref. On Sanchez, i think his role is different for Arsenal then it was for Barca. At Barca his job was to keep things wide and stretch the oppo. At Arsenal he's allowed to roam more in the central areas.
  17. I think Hazard can sometimes be a bit too calculated when deciding what to do with the ball. I do sometimes wish he would try and force the issue a bit more. Try things that might not work 9 or 8 out of 10 times.
  18. At 12:20 it shows a number of clips from the game where they highlighted just how much space there was in the central areas because Gueye was man marking Hazard.
  19. It's not about being found out. Man marking is essentially a trade off. You limit the influence of 1 player but weaken the overall defensive solidity of your team (as you lose 1 player who's not concerned with anything else but the player he's supposed to mark). Problem with having Hazard run into our own half is that it plays into the other teams hands. The point of man marking Hazard is to limit his influence. Having him move further away from goal would only help the opposition. Problem with having Hazard out on the wing is that it's a more isolated position. It's also easier to defend out wide as the sideline acts as another defender. If Hazard is wide then the only place he can go with the ball is to the inside. Regardless of what Hazard does when the opposition man mark him his influence on the game is always going to be less then what it could be. The solution is for the rest of our players to take advantage of the extra space that they are given. Only thing Hazard can do is keep making runs and make the moments he's able to get away from his man marker count.
  20. PFA player of the year is where all the players in the league get to vote. PFA = players football association FWA player of the year gets voted by the journalists. FWA = football writers association There's also the barclays player of the season which gets decided by "a panel assembled by the league's sponsor – currently Barclays – consisting of members of "football's governing bodies, the media and fans".
