Such as...? Would those world class defenders be available and willing to sign for us?
Not the first time I read the bold statement that we could do better for our millions, without naming a realistic target. Let's face facts here: proven world class defenders are thin on the ground, and perhaps not willing to come to Chelsea.

Can I suggest 1. you use a less horrible comparison, 2. you watch some footage from the liberation of Nazi concentration camps to get some insight into the difference between skinny and emaciated?

We also signed Pulisic, Werner, Ziyech so I don't see how a few bad examples would be a proof of anything. #backingLampard

Unbelievable some of the moronic sh*t written on here lately, that kind of thing is a good example of it. Some rewriting of history too , when we signed kepa and drinkwater the majority were in favour of them, they were both highly rated and we were happy to have them. Now apparently with hindsight they were terrible signings the whole time, amazing.

So Kepa's performance will predict how Chilwell will do if we sign him? Riiiiiiight.

If you remember the opinions on chilwell in december, most fans wanted him.
I can see why Lampard wants him, he is physically ahead of all other options in terms of speed, stamina, and strength. He has age on his side, and whilst he isnt particularly strong defensively or offensively, he does a decent job at either end with room to improve.
My preference wouldve been Telles or Tagliafico, but neither are orivem in a top league, and both players do not match up to Chilwell physically, and when you consider the make up of the squad, maybe a more robust and pacy left back makes more sense.
I just think its a shame there are fans on twitter giving him abuse, and putting negativity in his head before he has even kicked a ball with us. Surely its best to just get behind players, and if you are going to slag them off, keep that to forums like this rather than the players social media. Theres even been 1 or 2 death threats which is disgusting.

That entire Leicester team was completely f**ked the entire time that Chilwell struggled, too - basically all of 2020. So although they had a pretty solid squad that should have finished top 4, Chelsea will be better this coming season so I’d like to think that he’ll perform better and play more like what we saw in the months prior to Leicester’s struggles.

You don't know that though, why not hold judgement until we get some confirmed figures. I think Chilwell has gone from overrated, to underrated. He is still a good player despite a poorish 6 months.
The 18 months prior to that he was one of the best in the league. We would all prefer a cheaper option, but i thi k this transfer could end up like Pulisic, where there are plenty of complaints about the price, but in a very short time, that is all forgotten, when the perfomances are good.

I doubt it's putting an end to Havertz. Havertz has agreed personal terms with us. We were always going to go after a CB and LB. Not gonna lie, I hope we aren't paying over £55m for him though. I feel like we should be spending the higher fees on a CB, not a LB. But then again, both are important so who knows. Good fullbacks are crucial in modern football.

A few sources have said about £50m, which is expensive still, but not too outlandish for enlgands 1st choice left back when you consider the prices that maguire, walker, wan bissaka, stones, moved for.
He wouldnt be my 1st choice, but he is good athlete, he is young enough that you would hope he will improve, and most importantly, he is lampards top target.
We have complained about not backing the manager in the past, i dont think we can grumble too much if the board sign werner, Ziyech, Havertz, and chilwell.

It would be counter productive for united to push the price up, it would only hurt them in negotiations for sancho, if bayer get closer to their asking price.
United rumours are nonsense. Journos writing bs for clicks.

United are likely doing what City do, pushing up the price so we have to pay more. United don't need him, they've got many players in that position it's the last thing they need.

Obviously I don’t think it has an actual effect on the transfer. He’s not our player yet. Should we start a topic in the General forum about any player we are linked with then?

I think Frank only needs to improve for next term. 66 points to 75, 69 goals scored to 80, 59 conceded to 40, 20 wins to 25 and so on. Something in the lines of that.

We cannot be stupid enough to think we can overtake City and Liverpool. Both of them have very good squads at the right age. We have bits and pieces of a good squad and most of the main players are young. Frank also has a very demanding system. We are not trying to defend victories.

Anyway the honeymoon period is over. We are spending 150-200m to new players. Players Frank want and need. I am 100% sure we will improve and that will be the story for next term.

I would've said the last 5. When we won the title with Jose, Cesc, Matic, Oscar, Willian and Costa all went off the boil in January and onwards, Hazard was literally winning us games on his own, almost every goal from then on was coming through his play.

How on earth can you not realise the impact of losing Hazard, no matter who we brought in. He spent the last 2 years dragging us through the season. Also your downplaying of all the problems this season for the manager is very off.

Wasn't he in charge of the team that was midtable prior to restart? Whose fault was it that they were struggling? Given the money spent and the squad he had at his disposal, OGS was expected to finish in the top four so I'd say he did as well as expected but that's it.
Frank, on the other hand, clearly overachieved given all the issues he had to deal with. And since we're comparing managers, it makes no difference why we couldn't spend money and upgrade our team and United could, the fact of the matter is, Ole had that advantage while Frank had to make do with what he'd inherited from previous managers, not to mention Hazard's departure.
Here's a scenario. Who's United's best player? Let's say it's Pogba. Imagine they sold him last summer and haven't signed anyone since then. No Maguire, no Wan-Bissaka, no Bruno. Would you think they'd have finished third as they did? I think it's highly unlikely. So I strongly disagree with the notion that transfers shouldn't be taken into account when you judge teams, it's hugely important and makes a big difference.
