I think those pictures highlight the issue with Kante as CDM. He really should be in the space Gnabry occupies but instead he's further up  the field then CHO to begin with leaving Gnabry with way too much space.

We had to be more open and attacking, we lost our game changer with no chance to replace him, had we played the cautious possession football Sarri did (or counter football Mou did) without Hazard we'd have been lucky to get 50 goals (and even that projected prediction is due to the fact Pulisic exploded at the business end).
Even with the attacking tactics we still hugely struggled against low blocks whenever one of Pulisic or CHO weren't on form, sometimes even when they were, imagine how badly it would have worked out if we were largely relying on our front 3 without Eden to find a way to break them, I'd dread to think how many games we would have gone without a goal at some points.
You say it's an underwhelming performance but no one expected us to be top four this season, infact people kept saying they would have widely accepted 10th aslong as youth were playing and there was some positive encouragement of a potential end product, as it happened we got both of them along with 4th.

    This one s not true..
    1) Pulisic never scored more than 5 goals a season at Dortmund to suggest we brought him to replace Hazard who was our top scorer is absurd. I think this was more of gamble on him being able to replace aging squad players like Willian/Pedro
    2) With Sarri we gave him two strikers proven strikers in Higuain / Morata which we never replaced.
    3) our most experienced CB didn’t fancy a reduced role and angled for a move .. the inexperience clearly showed for us in some big games.
    4) our three most important players under Sarri were suffering from long term injuries in RLC, Rudiger and Kante
You say if Spurs and Arsensl had not imploded we wouldn’t be 4th .. well if we had not thrown points away against- Sheffield, Watford, Brighton, Arsenal and otherdywe would have been second.

So if you think that us coming 4th was at par or only slightly above par .. o am not so sure abt that.

As poor as our defense can be lack of edge is just as big an issue. How many times this season have we dominated games only to draw or lose? Against Arsenal at home they had 2 shots we had about 20 and somehow the score ended 2-2.
With the likes of Ziyech, Havertz and Werner we will punish teams while we're on top a lot more often which will in turn means less cases of opponents getting a leg up completely out of the blue like Palace got last night, with Guita's save followed by Zaha's thunderbolt the game turned from a 0-5 to chaos in the space of a minute.

What I loved the most about him is that he didn't come here to wind down. After winning everything at his boyhood club (and the national team) while being involved with the greatest club side of all time you would imagine a lot of players in his position wouldn't have the same hunger to make it work at a new club, especially when his first season involved an all time collapse of a season.
Not a bit of it with him though, he still played like he had everything to prove.

This is pretty much how i see it.
Lampard made a conscious decision to sacrifice defensive stability in order to outscore teams, because he knew if we sat back and didnt commit many forward, we would struggle to replace Hazards contribution.
It is completely the opposite to what most managers do when they come in, usually they make teams difficult to beat, then look at ways to score more goals.
I dont know whether the approach was right or wrong, but considering our league position and fa cup run, you would have to say it was successful.
The big question now, is whether signing the likes of Werner, Ziyech, and possibly Havertz, can provide the same or better goal threat, whilst maintaining a better defensive shape and not over committing.
I would be very suprised if we played as open next season, even if we sign some defensive reinforcements. I think there will be more faith that we can keep games tight, and our attacking quality will show through in the end.

I love him but i wouldn't want him back now. He's approaching 30 and looking like his knees are going, could easily end up being another Kante situation were he plays when fit no matter what form he's in compared to his competitor largely because of what he was. If you think Kante coming straight back in after Jorgi and Kova smashed it in his absence was frustrating, imagine an fully firing Puli being took away from his best position to the opposite side to accommodate Eden.
We got a fantastic price and replaced him well, we should close that fantastic chapter and move on to the next era.

Not quite sure where this narrative comes from that only Sarri will want him, seems a pretty lazy myth given Pep was desperate for him aswell.
Furthermore, Pirlo was a regista so there's every chance he'd want one for his Juve team and alas go after Jorgi himself.

Fully agree, but if we're into next season and we're still conceding the same number of goals, questions have to be asked if Frank is the right man for the job. The defence has to be fixed, we can't win trophies with that backline no matter if we had Ronaldo or Messi in their primes up top.

We have conceded the most goals in the top 10, it's not good enough. And we're still so vulnerable to set pieces, it hasn't changed all season.

I think the point about us having to be open is well made. Same with the high press. We needed it because goals were going to be hard to come by otherwise.
I for one am hoping that with some new attacking verve we might not see too many games where we have two players behind the ball which we did constantly this season.
That won't help us in games like last night though. Defensive structure was non existent despite us having 30 percent of the ball.
