  1. Not a good game by the fires ds, midfielders or wingbacks Ziyech and Alonso disappeared for long stretches of the game. Tiuechel should have brought Havertz and Chilwell on much sooner. Teams are going to park the bus to defend against Lukaku and Turchel will need to use Chelsea’s speed to counterattack before the opponents crowd the 28 yard box.

Set pieces were also not good. If Ziyech is in the game let him take them.

Tuchel obviously doesn't agree with your assessment and neither do I seeing as Alonso started against Villa and was made captain..

I was terrified of Salah and TAA ripping Alonso a new one in anfield but he held his own and even offered some support to the attack regardless of being a man down

I prefer my coach making decisions based on performances in training and not reputation. Alonso has been by far our best wingback this season and I am sure Chilwell recognizes this. He will get his chance sooner or later but for now I prefer the false 3

Alonso initially got more game action when Tuechel assumed the manager role, however when Chilwell started playing he assumed and kept the starting role through the Champions League  games. I  expect that the same scenario will play out this year as Chilwell is a more complete player than Alonso, including his ability to serve crosses in the box with Lukaku there this year to finish them.

Jesus give the guy a chance!

Saul has been out of form with Athletico Madrid the last couple of years.I don't expect that he is going to magically turn back to his playing form from three years ago. Lots of unforced errors. Chelsea really needs a backup number 6 to Kante and I question whether Saul is fit for that role. He hasn't been the same player since his kidney injury s few years ago.

It has nothing to do with fitness. Alonso has been our best wingback .

Alonso played awful vs Liverpool as he couldn't keep up with their speed. Chilwell hasn't plAyed since the Champions League final. I He also didn't do much vs Villa. I am not sure how he lost his starting position. He needs some real game action this week.

Whoever signs him is going to get screwed over by him and his agent. I’m glad we’ve dodged that bullet.

This ^^^  I don't understand such high agent fees in football which clearly presents a conflict of interests for the agent. You know he is going to negotiate an opt out provision after three years which will work in favor of him (higher agent fees for the next contract) and in some respects Haaland if he performs at a high level and earns a bigger contract from his next team.

Watching Adama Traore, makes Essien look anorexic, players literally bouncing off this Hulkster, lol

He has a horrible first touch, plus he tends to disappear for periods of time during games. I don't see how he fits on the Chelsea roster.

  7. I missed the game as my younger had a game. I listened to the last 30 minutes on Sirius XM Soccer Channel. One of their announcers is a Spurs' fan. He said Taylor was far to lenient for the Spurs, including letting Fabhinho get away.with at least offenses which should have warranted yellow cards. Taylor also overreacted with giving Mendy a yellow card when Henderson had no business getting in his way after the PK.

I understand that you're totally against him coming to Chelsea but at least get your facts right. He's not a LWB, he's been played there by Simeone because he thinks he is a very versatile player. This is one of the reasons why he wants to leave Atletico. He is a midfielder, and was a top class midfielder not that long ago, that wants to play in that position.

Saul is left footed and has played two full games at wing back. Simeone has judged that he is better suited there than midfield. Yes, at one time Saul was playing very well at midfield however he suffered a kidney injury and he appears to lack confidence right now. He is no longer a top midfielder and he may not be suited to the physical play in the PL.

Kovacic wasn't a regular starter for Real Madrid either when we initially bought him in on loan.

Saul isn't even being used as a midfielder by AM so far in 2020. The history of kidney problems is a concern. Tchouameni is much younger, athletic and better defensive midfielder. That is critically important given Kante's injury history.

What do you mean at this stage of his career? He's only 26 and starts for the team that just won La Liga. Sounds like you're making out he's coming to the end of his career, when realistically he's just entering his peak.

Don't you remember how easily Chelsea was able to get through Athletico Madrid midfield during last year's Champions League? Niquez also has had a history of kidney problems. AM isn't.even using him as a midfielder any more. I don't see how this guy is much better than RLC or Ampadu at this point. Tchouameni would be a much better option as younger, stronger and better overall player.

You're right, he played as LWB, I don't know why the google page shows him in a midfield 2 with De Paul.

The last thing that Chelsea needs is another left footed WB. They just loaned out Emerson and Chilwell can't get any playing time with Alonso getting the bulk of the playing time.

Other than he is the Heart of ‘Atletico Madrid’, not RM,  he is a superb experienced international player, who is probably, no is an upgrade on Kovacic!

Niquez can't even start for Athletico Madrid. He is a backup player at this point of his career. Tchouameni would only cost about 25 million pounds and he could pair very well with Ksnte. The price may even drop further if Monaco gets eliminated from the Champions League tomorrow.

What are we gonna do with a box to box midfielder though? I'd bet no one at the club is currently looking at players whose main trait is running towards the opponent's box. In Tuchel's mind we are a double pivot team now and that is definitive. Even if we were to switch to back 4 our middle of the park would be double pivot behind Mount.

Can you really picture Tuchel fielding Kanté-Camavinga or Kovacic-Camavinga (e.g. a double pivot of 2 transitional box to box players) in a PL game? His idea is to control the midfield through passing and positional play rather than sheer athleticism, that's why Jorgi is so undroppable (it has taken Kanté and Kovacic until last season to make up for that and form a decent CM pairing). And I agree with him, with one of the double pivots mentioned above I'd be very worried about leaving our back line exposed. We'd immediately drop one or two levels as a title contender. I could only picture Camavinga playing with Jorginho as a third option behind the more well-rounded and PL-proven Kanté or Kovacic, still leaving us without cover for Jorginho other than the Kanté-Kovacic combo and putting obstacles in the way of Billy's future at the club.

I do agree that I'd like to see more attacking threat (in terms of distribution and direct attempts on goal) from CM, but through individidual qualities and not through a completely different type of midfielder. That applies to Jorginho himself, who has shown signs of becoming a bit more daring at the start of this season, and any potential back up. Any midfielder we sign this summer needs to at least be capable of positional discipline.

Saul Niguez, particularly if available on loan, simply ticks all the boxes. No brainer

Disagree. Niquez is nothing more than a backup at this stage of his career. If Chelsea wants to win the PL they need to improve their starting midfielders. I don't see how spending 60 to 70 million pounds for Kounde makes this team better. It seems that they are prioritizing that acquisition which is also tied to selling Zouma. They can acquire either Camavinga or Tchouameni for half that price and they will compete for a starting position. Tchouamnei could also be a very valuable backup for Kante given his injury history.

Far superior midfielders...? Don't know what to say about that, other than Niguez would be the better transfer than these two on every single level.

    - far more calm and composed, no risk of buying another Bakayoko

    - experienced on the highest level, far more of a finished product which is what we need in rotation with Jorginho+Kanté+Kovacic (otherwise I'd rather have kept Billy over Tchouameni/Camavinga)

    - capable of playing a commanding holding role to provide cover for Jorgi in particular

    - beautiful left foot for transition game and, finally, shots from a distance

    - somehow still only 26

    - if the media are to be believed, potentially available on loan (ideally with option to buy) which would

    a) free up funds to buy Koundé this summer

    b) give us the option next summer to review his perfomances, see where Billy's at and if we still have the hots for Rice for some reason.

If we end up buying one of the players you named I'll back them and hope they find their role (while being a bit sad about not keeping Billy around), but Niguez- particularly on loan - would be on a whole other level.

Both players are rated significantly higher than Niquez. They are also much younger and healthier than Niquez. Why would Chelsea want a guy who can't even crack the lineup at RM?

Plus Chelsea already has a surplus of CBs, even if Zouma transfer to West Ham goes through. Kounde is a luxury whereas a young, talented midfielder is an obvious need right now.

I definitely think we need a new Midfielder over a defender, i think we are stacked with quality in the back line, and Saul Niguez would be perfect..

Tchouameni and Camacinga are far superior midfileders. Either one could be acquired for approximately 35 million Euros. Get it done, Marina.

Matt Law reported we won’t sign a midfielder unless something changes in the last few days of the window. Maybe Camavinga for that price will get us involved.

That would be a huge mistake by Chelsea, with Kante's injury history and inconsistent play with Jorghinio and Kovacic. Camavinga could compete for a starting position as a box to box midfielder

I’d rather wait a year for Rice rather than sign this guy now. He’s only had 1 good season, we should buy Kounde instead who is a proven centre back with high potential.

Tchouameni will cost about 1/3 the price of Rice. He is also a much better overall player compared to Rice. Chelsea has plenty of midfielders  who have limited offensive skills such as Rice. There is a clear need for a starting midfielder to move Kovacic to the bench. Tchouameni for $30 million makes sense for the current Chelsea team.

Little to no pre season and a 0 to 60 start to the campaign. Alonso and Azpi are just oozing confidence right now and can definitely feed Lukaku the balls he needs.

I actually love it when our "2nd" options have a run of great performances, keeps them engaged and the competition alert.

Will agree though that they're probably not the best WB picks for Liverpool, might be a good idea to sub on James and Alonso on Sunday to get into the rhythm

I have a feeling Lukaku is introduced after 65-70mins.

Why? He should start and Chelsea should crush Arsenal right away. Don't give them any hope of winning the game. You can sub Lukaku around 55 minutes with hopefully at least a 2 goal lead.

Personally I've accepted his weaknesses because his strengths are vital to the way we play.

We need a midfield that is able to recycle possession, beat the press and able to move the ball forward at will.

We need him to improve more than we need to replace him. A return of 5 goals and 5 assists per season is good enough if our forwards are scoring

Kovacic has 1 goal in 91 PL matches. He is also not a very good passer. There is a clear need for a midfielder who can finish and pass with better accuracy.  Kovacic would be a nice player for depth off the bench when needed.

  20. What's the deal with James and  Chilwell getting little to no playing time? Neither one played much during the Euros this Summer. Clearly they are better than Azpi and Alonso. Both James and Chilwell are far superior overall players, including crossing to Lukaku in the box. Why spend all testimony on Lukaku and not get him the ball?

  21. 4 hours ago, Deino said:

He is one of the tidiest players on the ball. Him and Jorgi made the Palace midfield look like training dummies

Kovacic  did okay vs CP. However they are a potential relegation team. Kovacic is quite poor playing in the final 1/3  of the pitch  with poor passing and finishing skills. Chelsea need a midfielder such as Carnavinga or Tchouameni this transfer window.

  22. Chelsea clearly need another midfielder. Don't get fooled  by yesterday's Palace as they will likely be in the relegation zone this year.

Use the proceeds of the Abraham AS Roma as a part of the financing to acquire Tchouamen or Carnavinga. Both are young and dynamic midfielders which is a glaring need at Chelsea.
