  1. That is a fair point. It really depends on whether Tuchel is on board with the signing. Would be a bad move to sign an expensive player who doesn't fit with his planned system, but then again we've done this kind of thing in the past.
  2. It could be a smokescreen to try and get some movement from Dortmund with Haaland. However it looks more likely that Lukaku has now become our first choice target. As others on this thread have pointed out, Haaland is not just the transfer fee but also huge agent fees and salary demands. Presumably if we were to sign Haaland there would have to be consideration given to the salaries of other key players at Chelsea etc. Regardless if we want Lukaku we will still have to pay big as Inter do not seem keen to sell. I wouldn't read much into Lukaku's previous comments. He was always going to follow the advice of his agent in that respect, and it seems as though that agent is now pushing for the move. So expect Lukaku's comments to evolve 😉
  3. I think if Lukaku was available for about 60m there would be less resistance on here to his signing. But even though I think he is a decent striker 100m+ does seem crazy, especially when we decided to let him go for a fraction of the price.
  4. That's assuming we don't sell RLC or send him on loan. I would not be overly confident having Werner lead the line based on what I have seen from him in front of goal. He is definitely a useful player when it comes to assists but I don't think he is a natural striker.
  5. So who is the backup to Havertz if he is injured, suspended, or just in need of a rest?
  6. Daka also looks like the kind of striker that would have fit in well with Tuchel's system. Oh well
  7. I fully expect to see a lot more from Kai this season and that is reason for optimism. However I don't think he should be our main striker, and at the very least we need cover if he got injured. If we are unable to bring a new striker in then we should keep Tammy and Broja as our striker options.
  8. Certainly different in terms of the way signings have panned out so far. In 2017 summer we made several signings early on and then what looked like some panic buys a the end of the window. A lot of money was spent that window, mostly in players that failed to impress. However if I remember correctly they were not the players that Conte wanted, and that led to his fallout with the board. Still a few weeks left before the current transfer window ends and a lot could happen. I would have some concerns going into the new season if Tuchel doesn't get a couple of key signings (particularly a striker and center midfielder) to improve the squad. Expectations from the board will no doubt be to challenge for the league but I doubt we will see a marked improvement without reinforcements. That has the potential to lead to a fallout between Tuchel and the board, but hopefully things will work out better than they did with Conte.
  9. Unless Inter need to raise funds I don't see this one happening. Lukaku has already indicated that he has no desire to leave Inter, and they are already likely to lose Martinez.
  10. Haaland seems unlikely at this point. Maybe we will be back in for him next summer at the lower price, but we will have a lot of competition then. If we were looking for cheaper options Patson Daka would have been a good option. He will do very well with Leicester in the Premier League I think. Ings may not seem like a glamour signing but he is a proven goalscorer. Several years ago I wouldn't have minded seeing us sign Charlie Austin for similar reasons. If we could get Ings at a decent price it might allow us to spend bigger on a central midfielder too.
  11. We've certainly seen this before and I hope it doesn't go the way of Conte's second season. I will be worried if we suddenly switch from our main targets to a series of panic buys at the end of the window.
  12. Ugbo and Broja both look physically strong for young players.
  13. A few years ago I thought Varane would be a great signing but I wasn't overly impressed with him when we faced Real Madrid last season, nor in the Euros for France. That being said he should be an upgrade on CB options for United to partner Maguire.
  14. I think that was Clarke-Salter and Baba Rahman down our left flank in the second half. Baba Rahman had a nice assist for the equalizer and looked lively in general. He might be an squad option on the left. Gallagher struggled a bit in the second half for a while when he was playing in front of what was a makeshift defense. He looked better once Ruben moved back to help him out.
  15. Broja looked good when he came on. He will likely get some more chances to impress in pre-season. I also though Baba Rahman did well when he came on. I forgot we still had him on our books. Another player who has been desperately unlucky with injury. I wouldn't be surprised if we send a player or 2 to Bournemouth on loan now that Scott Parker is manager there.
  16. Its all gone downhill since Drinkwater went off 😉
  17. Quite a few players out there now that need to be offloaded.
  18. Yes that was a terrible mistake. Lucky to get away with it.
  19. I will be surprised if Drinkwater stays with the squad this season but he deserves a chance to show what he can do in pre-season, just like all the others. With a new manager he effectively has a fresh slate.
  20. CHO has looked good so far. Gallagher is pretty tidy in possession. Baker has done well at the back. Tammy missed some decent chances but at least he is geting into the right positions.
  21. Starting 11 for tonight's game: Arrizabalaga; Sterling, Baker, Sarr; Hudson-Odoi, Drinkwater, Gallagher, Alonso; Ziyech, Pulisic, Abraham
  22. I only saw him playing a few minutes for France in the Euros so not enough time to really make much assessment there. However he was regarded as one of the best defenders in La Liga last season. Looks like Zouma would be included as part of the deal.
  23. I'll be surprised if Haaland happens this summer, especially if it is true that he can be bought for a fraction of the quoted amount next summer.
  24. Guehi is a good young player who did really well in his loan at Swansea. I fully expect him to do very well for Palace. If he fulfills his potential there I hope he returns rather than gets snaps up by one of our rivals.
